I hace come to terms with anime

Yeah, I kinda don't like anime for the same reasons as the OP didn't, it's full of stupid junk that's mainly geared towards 11-13 year old kids (although, I used to enjoy DB and DBZ when I was younger).

I generally stay away from anime, but I remember seeing a show a while back which mainly focused on a badass chick who I'm assuming is some sort of mercenary/hitman... She says 'fuck' a lot...

I dunno what it's called but if anybody could help me figure it out, I think that might be the one anime that I'd watch.

i beleave that would be Black lagoon and the womens name was revy and she had two realy big handguns would so recommend this to you man

Avatar=not anime. Samurai C isn't even what I'd call a good example of classic anime. Saying Elfen Lied sucked? Wow, you have no idea what you're talking about. One of the top 20 best, easily.

Depends on your tastes.
I myself would barely put Elfen Lied in the top 50.
Maybe not even in the top 100.
But that's the beauty of Opinions.

i used t hate anime only having seen crap like dragon ball z and Naruto dribbling out the ass of morning cartoons. but recently i was forcefully exposed in school to a show called samurai champloo which was an interesting clever serious funny re-imagining of Feudal Japan, i liked it, allot, it wasn't just good for anime but it was simply really good. then i found myself watching avatar the last air bender when i had some free time and it was pretty good then it got better and became quite good. then i saw some poor soul eater thing, which was really really really bad. then there was this other violence with little girls thing called elfin lied which just sucked, followed by a quite good and creepy darker than black which would have been very good if not for a ultra painful to tolerate set of gag characters (who as far i could tell nobody liked) and then two more excrement storms i forget the names of followed. In conclusion I've come to terms with anime.
It's like television: mostly polished turd with some gold nuggets mixed in.

Sweet, you finally liked an anime, congrats!

Now if only you could learn to like typing messages like real people, you would be all set!

As others have said above me, glad you came to terms, but... you didn't like Elfen Lied? From your description of it, you either only watched a tiny, tiny portion of it, or never understood it at all. It raises valid points about important topics such as rape, dysfunctional families, family dynamics, ostracization, murder, morals, forgiveness, humanity, and so many more. I may or may not be blinded by nostalgia, but Elfen Lied is still one of my favourites. The gore is there to prove and strengthen certain points, and the nudity, well, I don't see how that should bother anyone. I mean, it was never used in a sexual way, and there shouldn't be a reason why anyone should find a naked body disturbing.
All in all, EL is awesome, and definitely not just blood and tits.

the soul eater anime did in fact suck. the manga is amazing though. If you really want to see anime drivel try Evangelion. Regardless of what anyone tries to tell me this anime is based around a series of characters with daddy issues. the giant robot storyline is completly tacked on and redundant.

If you want great anime try ROD TV, Dual, cowboy bebop(the best anime ever made. Period. im not joking here. the writing would put anything you have ever seen to shame), Afro Samurai is silly and the story is abit dumb but the presentation is beautiful, all of dot hack is just a joy to watch.

yeah sorry for double post but highschool of the dead is still running and is a really good show although like most the manga is alot better. Anime like movies does what it can with character development and takes it time. try actually watching the whole thing

Well, if you have 45 minutes to spare, watch 'Blood - The last Vampire'. You'll learn quite a lot about how atmosphere and brilliant cinematography is supposed to be. And there are some often forgotten classics that I highly recommend in case you want to watch something else than the stuff that's usually considered as prime example:

i treat anime as another cartoon, yes i know people get mad when i say this but just as some american animated shows are great ie btas and venture bros there is also some great anime quite a bit of it is just stylized cartoons for an older crowd

You didn't like Elfen Lied? I would say that one's by far the most interesting, deep, and thought provoking of all the anime you've mentioned. The rest, I think, is just bland shounen stuff. I would normally recommend you watch Clannad and Welcome to the NHK, but taking your personal tastes into account, I don't think I should.

Try watching high school of the dead, if you're okay with it being sort of ecchi.

My end point is that when most people agree, something becomes a fact. When Galileo said the earth revolved around the sun, people said no you're wrong, despite it being a fact. At some point, when opinion's are shared by a majority, they become fact. Otherwise nothing can be made a fact because there is always someone who claims otherwise.

you are dead wrong! just because a majority of people believe in something does NOT make it fact. a fact is something that can be proven threw some sort of hard evidence. opinions are not evidence,even if shared.

So how do you get facts then? If all it takes it someone pulling the "it's your opinion" card, there is no such thing as a fact. "This thing we breathe is air." "No it's not, that's your opinion"

It's called the scientific method. It goes like this:

3. Form hypothesis
4. Perform experiment and collect data
5. Analyze data
6. Interpret data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis
7. Publish results
8. Retest (frequently done by other scientists)

You cannot do this with an opinion.

A fact is something you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Fact = Trees are made of wood.

An opinion is a personal preference.

Opinion = I like mustard on my hot dogs.

An opinion is not just personal taste. There are some disturbed individuals who deny the holocaust happened. That's their opinion, and it is flat wrong. It's not considered "un-wrong" because it is their opinion. The majority of people agree it happened, that makes it fact.

What, seriously? No, the fact that it actually freaking happened makes it a fact. People's opinions as to whether it happened or not have no sway on that. If for some reason in 50 years time, everyone for some reason believed it didn't happen, would that mean it didn't?

Your arguments are incredibly flawed. Besides you can't compare absolutes like that, or other scientific things, with something that is inherently subjective.

Ot: I quite liked Elfen Lied, but I can easily see why people would hate it. The Fan service was ridiculous, the nyu character was incredible annoying, there were some weird incestuous vibes, the female cousin was a horrible character... Lucy's back story and general arc was pretty great though.

You might like Initial D. It's about mountain/street racing in Japan and the culture surrounding it. It's not too bad a show though really, and I agree completely, it is alot like tv with a few really good shows and alot of not so good ones.

Please don't insult three great animes in your 'anime acceptance thread'.

It's fair enough that you like anime now but the insults to those three animes were unnecessary.

that is the Entertainment Industry in general. But yes, there are a lot of crap anime titles. The only way to tell which ones you like are to watch a few. To say "anime sucks" is like saying "american movies suck." There are so many of various different qualities and target audiences that sweeping generalizations are ignorant. So I'm glad you've educated yourself.

Now is to identify which parts of anime you enjoy. Then you can relate these elements to other anime fans, and they can help recomend good ones based on your preferences. Though, you'll always get someone that is in love with all anime-forever, simpley because it came from Japan. So be aware.

(btw, if you feel up for giving Dragonball another chance, Dragonball Kai is a retelling of the "DBZ" story using remastered cuts from the original series, but hemming out all of the filler and most of the censoring-- though some remains like child Gokus' junk in the opening episode, the result is a much faster paced coherent story. I used to really dislike DBZ myself, enjoying only a few bits here and there. DB Kai basically is all the good parts. Worth a shot.)

Would you care to specify what, exactly, you didn't like about Elfen lied? I'm curious.

Not to speak for the OP, I can relate my experiences with Elfen Lied, and why I did not care for it.

It opened up as something on par with Eva; some unstoppable killing machine was unleashed, and it had to be stopped. I was totally on board. Mixed in with the first episode, was some klutz girl. She was like so many I had seen before in many anime tropes, and I was rolling my eyes at the abuse of this meme. Meme rules dictated that she survived the engadgment with the enemy, while everyone capable around her dies, even though she should have died. Then, the unimagineable; she was killed, and it was gory.

Having witnessed the anime just murder an anime-meme, essentually breaking the law on anime memes, I wanted very much to keep watching, and enjoy the series. But as I watched, I grew bored, and depressed with the show. It was more painful to watch, than enjoy. The series tried to build suspense in lack luster ways. Its plot direction weaved around like a drunk on a winding highway. The main character bobbed back and forth between protagonist and villain. Other similar characters to the main cat-lady were abused, and tortured in their roles.

I gave up when the plot started to stagnate. I think it was some scene on the bridge when a secretary for that corperate CEO guy got hurt (last part I remember). I swapped it out for something immediately more cheery, and remembered that I was watching these shows to be entertained, and enjoy the experience.

Elfin Lied killed my joy, and was plain depressing to watch, on top of its bad narrative.
