I guess I'm a masochist, because I really quite enjoyed the fact that I was mentally screaming "CRAP, CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP, I MESSED UP, CRAAAAAAAAAAP" for most of what I've played so far. Totally worth the three bucks I bought it for.

People still listen to the general consensus of people on the Escapist?
Yea I learned my lesson when people were going absolutely ape shit over how much they loved Brink.
Links or it didn't happen. Even I was surprised by the sheer volume of people here showing nothing but disappointment and apathy towards it.

bought Mirror's Edge and Metro 2033

THERE'S your problem. Maybe next time people recommend a game to you, you should ask about this kind of thing.

You see, I love Mirror's Edge. It's my favorite game ever... EVER. I would have recommended it to you any damn day... unless I knew you didn't like mastery through repetition. Then I would have kept my mouth shut. You should ask these kinds of questions when people try to sell you things, it's part of being an informed buyer.

I love this game on Ranger Hardcore. It is unforgiving, cruel, and it literally hates you. You have to be smart and careful to beat it. I can understand why you may hate it, but I think it is one of the best games made in the past ten years, right up there with Half Life 2, Portal, Morrowind, and I would have it no other way.

Yes, the shooting's clunky. Yes, it has its rough edges, but they only make me love it more.

You have to play the game on its terms. You have to let yourself be lost in the experience. If you do, there is no better game on the market.

I've finished the game twice and even started playing it again recently, getting as far as the Library... but I really haven't had any technical issues.

Hitboxes are fine, some enemies have helmets... they won't die if you hit the helmet with the knife, you have to go for the throat.

As for being seen in the dark, some enemies have nigh-vision goggles. I'm pretty sure the game even lets you know when you start encountering them.

And the auto-save mechanic is fine in my opinion, I had no issues with the difficulty on my first play-through, and the 2nd was laughably easy on normal.. I was swimming in bullets.

The story does kinda shit all over itself towards the end, but the game is atmospheric, quite good looking and the gameplay way above average. I personally enjoyed it

I for one thoroughly enjoy shooters that focus on atmosphere and tension, rather than being an unstoppable death machine. Metro 2033 is perfect in the sense that it makes you feel vulnerable and forces you to be smart and conservative. How boring would it have been if you were like a Russian version of Arnold Scwartzenneger considering the linearity of the game.

I loved it beginning to end. I don't know why, maybe it just worked with me. Only things i hated were, as mentioned, the stupid amobea type enemies at the end. Loved every moment, was a glamorous experience. Can't wait for Last Light. I really hope THQ doesn't die out :(

Alright, so. I bought this...thing...in the last Steam Sale. I bought it because of YOU GUYS. Over and over on these forums, I saw you bigging it up. "Oh, la la la la la, Metro 2033, I loves it I loves it, best game since STALKER, post nuclear fans rejoice, la la la la la." FALSE ADVERTISING, says I!

It's a beautiful looking game, I'll admit to that. And it's very brooding and atmospheric, so well done, well done on that count at least. But here's where I'm coming from...

1. I just finished up Arkham City (yay) and all 4 hours of Mirror's Edge (boo), and I am *sick to death* of checkpoint saving. Seriously. I have had it with this shit. I (stupidly) presumed Metro 2033, like STALKER and like Fallout would allow for a more open world experience, and the "I can save whenever I want" that comes with it. Nope, it's bloody theme park ride, and you save only when it says you can. That's irritating all on its own, but when it's coupled with...

2. ...the ball breaking difficulty early on...the scarcity of ammo, the fussiness of the controls, the superhuman accuracy and precognition of the human enemies who draw a bead on you during the fraction of a second part of your anatomy pokes out from behind a crate, then the checkpoint saving becomes hugely obnoxious to the point of being both immersion breaking and fun destroying. It is Godzilla, and my enjoyment of the product is Tokyo.

And look, I don't want to hear any "LOL NUB L2P" bullshit here. I like a hard game. This is not a tactics or skill issue, this is a broken game issue. I know what I'm meant to do, but the sloppy controls and twitchy hit boxes won't let me do it. Over and over I see my knife thump into a box a micro hair away from a target. No worries, right? I can just reload my game! Nah, I get to spend 2 minutes squatting in the dank again waiting for the patrol to come around.

I know some of ya'll liked this game. I WANT to like this game. I adored STALKER. I lapped up both the contentious Fallout 3 and its buggy followup. I'm nuts for grim post nuclear games, and I like them to be hard. But this weird little rail shooter with totally crap shooting bits and gimpy mechanics feels fundamentally unlovable to me.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a mod that makes it less stupid? Help me out here.
Well you know what? I blame YOU for disliking the game. Yeah see how that feels? Right back at you! haha! You find Metro unlovable? Clearly you're not playing with the secrete mod "enders all", I would send it to you but you blamed me for your dislike of the game so I'm just "meh" right now. I'd tell you lol nub l2p but you already denied me that little slice of bliss in life, so I'll leave you with

And be on my way.

It sounds more like it's just not your type of game friend, it seemed like you went in expecting another, I dunno S.T.A.L.K.E.R or something, yeah the game is a little rough around the edges, but that comes from it having a smaller budget than your typical cookie cutter fps.

The scarcity of supplies and ammo is what helps make the game atmoshperic, this game is set in a world where you have to fight to survive, your not gonna just round a corner pick up an m60 strap ammo to your chest and fuck everything up rambo style.

Also, how is it our fault you didn't like something? You still bought it you silly chicken! I didn't hold a gun to your head and tell you to, at least I don't think I did, I've been having these black outs lately...

Anywho just go play something else, you'll forget your rage in time.

Surprised no ones complained about the horrible gas mask mechanic. My game glitched so I couldn't change the filter and even before when I could there just weren't enough filters around. So I ended up using cheats to give unlimited gas mask life and everything got a hell of a lot better. I really liked the game apart from that.

I always had like 8 extra on hand at any one time. That sounds like a ***** of a glitch, though. Before the cheat did you just try to run through the outdoor sections as fast as you could?

I fairly like it, but IMO it's a good story device and a bad shooter. the ranger difficulty is honestly easiest.

books are much, much better. not "Peter" though. That one was boring.

I enjoyed it alot! I thought it produced a really atmospheric and immersive environment... It wasn't difficult if you played like a true resourceful scavenger

Eh. I personally love the game. Gameplay is fun, atmosphere is awesome....someone mentioned the amoeba jelly things , those are the lamest things by far...but that's a very small section. Even on the hardest difficulty it's not the most difficult of games.

Maybe you should put it on Easy.

Well, I kind of liked it. The gameplay made me shit bricks from my eyes but I geuss I'm just really goddamn patient. I didn't finish it, admittedly.

And is it just me or does it seem really poorly optimised for the PC? I swear, it chugged way more than a game of its graphical level should have.
