The thing I don't like about the Wii is that they sell it as a motion controlled system rather than an option, so it seems kinda forced that it has to be as such. I'm not saying motion control is bad, I don't enjoy it as much as sitting back with a controller (sometimes gnawing on it in frustration) but it's not something you should exactly force on the people buying it. Yeah the GCN controller is an option but either more devs need to use that option or...more devs need to use that option.

Natal is odd for me, I dunno what to exactly think about it. Yeah it seems to have some cool ideas but I'm not buying it. It falls into the same category with the wii controller, I play games to relax or somethin, I don't want to be waving my arms around and flailing, there's actual SPORTS if I wanted to do that.

And the 360, the "last bastion of hardcore gaming"? Come now, hardcore consoles do not exist. Just because a console is dominated by FPS games, it doesn't make them hardcore. Hardcore games never existed, and hardcore gamers are either dead or comatose. That console is one that is dominated with games of a competitive nature, not hardcore.
Hardcore gaming characteristics...
- focus on gameplay and story
- challenging games
- well-made games

Basically it is for the most part synonymous with PC gaming. Its opposite is casual gaming, which puts a focus on rushing out lots of buggy games, fancy graphics, and amazingly easy to win. Casual gaming has long been tied to consoles such as the Xbox 360.

Really now, I don't understand why everyone is reacting in such a way as the above.

I thought, out of all the whining about Natal that I have heard over the forums, that this particular one made a good point about it. Yes, people are going to disagree, and yes the fact that the OP is jumping line a bit considering no-one seems to even really know what the Natal is going to be, but why does everyone suddenly get sarcastic and abusive?

As far as I saw the points he made were;

#1 - Motion controls do not appeal to many people due to their current clumsiness and gimmicky nature.
#2 - If Xbox 360 uses the Natal as a primary median between the Gamer and the Game, it will chase away the aforementioned people that the Xbox 360 attracted due to it being a nuisance.

While it is rather presumptuous that Microsoft will make Natal standard on whatever-the-hell-it-does-into-console on completely unfounded guesses, why does that suddenly label the OP as some kind of troll?

As much fun as it is to mock the whole 'hardcore vs. casual' theme running through the first post, it's just as pathetic watching people try to one-up each other over the internet through the use of playground-simplistic and unoriginal insults.

*Tilts top-hat and strolls out*
so what ur saying is.....

you like to defend trolls and flamers?

And why don't you consider the PS3 hardcore?
I personally think all motion controls are stupid and go against my entire purpose of gaming:
to set down and have a good time without having to get up and do anything
That is my main thing against the wii, I can set down at my PS3 or PC and game away for hours and move only my fingers and (in the pc's case) my right arm, a few inches.
M$ has seen the success of the wii, and they hope to get part of the casual pie. I don't think it will work out. Sony tried something similar with the PS2 eyetoy. It didn't work, there was only a few games made for it, the majority minigames, and then it died, alone and forgotten.
I hope Sony gives up on their "wand" they are developing. I think that if M$ sells out and tries to woo the casual crowd, and Sony doesn't, then I think they could seriously expand their market share and position themselves to regain the lead at the end of this generation or the next.

If MS gives devs an option to not support it, they probably won't, so they'll need to force devs to incorporate Natal features and screw over the majority of the hardcore fanbase who enjoy games with depth.
Gamers who enjoy games with depth play xboxes?!

Maybe I should look into them fandangled units then, instead of spending all those countless hours on expansive pc games and user created mods... which amounts to effectively infinite content for those who which to seize it...

Oh wait...

No
Now now, no need to gloat. That's seen as fanboyism by some.

Natal sounds alright - it's Nintendo that are going to become the others but worse.

I know they're probably going to call it that, but stop and think. Does 720 make any sense at all? There are only 360 degrees!
How did 360 make any sense?

The logo is a circle.

Circles have 360 degrees.

I like the Natal compared to the remotes for the Wii and PS3.

Why may you ask?

Because it doesn't replace the controller that is in your hand.

I'm still wanting for the squad based game that uses the convention controller along side with your hand gestures to command your squad btw.

Even considering that, casual games are officially labelled as such. Hardcore games are simple opinion, one that greatly varies. There are people out there who would call CoD 4 a hardcore game. They would be wrong however. SMB2 is one of the hardest games you will play, yet no one pipes up and calls that game 'hardcore'. Hardcore gaming exists, but not hardcore games. If I get 100% percent on every GH game, surely I'm a hardcore gamer?

I don't see why so many people like to ***** about the Natal. It's OPTIONAL. It won't replace the standard controller for "hardcore" games, most 360 games won't implement it in any way, and there's a pretty good chance it'll die on it's own accord anyway, sort of like the Sony Eyetoy. I know many people arn't too keen about having to flail their arms about to play every game they own. that's fine, don't buy it. But there are many, many people who would love nothing more than to pay money to talk to that creepy Milo kid, and as long as those people don't want to talk to me as well, I really don't see the problem here.

It all depends on the games that come with it. If the games suck, the thing will fail. If, however, someone actually thinks up something awesome, like a ninja game that trains you to be an actual ninja, complete with a cranky old ninja master who insults you and calls you a tubby ***** if you fail to perform his awesome ninja moves correctly. If they could also invent a robot arm add-on for the thing, he could also hit you with a stick for being an incompetent, unfit, pudgy, overweight waste of flesh.

Man, that would be sweet. Complete with an achievement for flipping out and killing someone, so that Natal can then use it's motion capture system to get the blood spurt in full motion glory.

In regards to the name, I'm hoping that they just go with Xbox 7. Windows 7 is shaping up so nicely, but then again after the previous failure, it's hard for it not to, so I'm hoping they stick with that.

Look mate, calm down.

It's not like anyone's forcing you to buy it. I myself don't like the concept of Natal. My solution; I just won't play it. And if they make it a part of the Xbox 720, I just won't buy one.

There's no sense complaining about something if that something won't affect you in the least.
That doesn't go for everyone. They spend a lot of time and money on things like this and it will become the main focus for a short while. Like AncientSon said, it will effect the gaming on the Xbox360 altogether.

Hopefully it will work out better than the Wii's game line-up and every other aspect.
