I hate vegetables

I've gained some weight this summer (I blame the ridiculous heat making me not want to go out and exercise), and I've decided to start watching what I eat again. However, I've had a problem my whole life: I hate eating vegetables. I can handle corn or potatoes, but those don't have the same nutritional value as other kinds. I can't even put lettuce on a burger or sandwich because it just makes me want to spit out my food. Tomatoes are yucky. Celery is just crunchy water, and is a lot harder to go down. Simply put, vegetables are supposed to be good for you, but I can't stand them, which is a big problem when you want to get in shape. Any of you guys have the same aversion to them? Any tips for cooking them that might actually make me want to eat them?

Thankfully I don't have this problem with fruit. Apples, bananas, cherries, cantaloupe, all perfectly fine with me.

Exact same boat dude my parents insisted I try brustle sprouts once I couldnt even chew it the second I closed my mouth I puked all over the table the taste was so bad. I ussually drink milk with peas and such because milk has such a strong taste it helps. I hate it I wish I liked vegi's but like you I can only stand potatos and corn.

I've been losing weight recently and I'm not a huge vegetable fan - I don't mind the taste and I'll eat what I'm given, but I rarely choose veg myself. That said, in my quest to shift a few pounds stone and get the body I desire, I haven't ever watched what I've eaten in the sense of having a diet, I just ate less and exercised more, so I burn more than I consume. I found that if I don't eat in the morning, I could generally last until 6 or 7pm until I got even a little hungry.

Simply put, if you don't like something, don't eat it. This is your life so live it your way, find a way around the problem like I did.

I really don't mind vegetables.

Celery can go die in a fire though, that shit is nasty.

Fruit is the one I can't stand, and it's not the flavour either (I'll gladly drink the juice of most fruits). I love the smell of fresh strawberries, but they've got to be one of the worst textured things I've ever eaten.

It's the texture. I can't stand the feeling of certain fruits in my mouth. If all fruit felt like an apple, I'd be in heaven.

I have the opposite problem with cooking vegetables. When they're fresh and uncooked, many of them are really good, but as soon as you cook them, they become completely inedible. Broccoli is the only vegetable I can think of that's ok cooked, but only if it's just boiled. Anything else and it's ruined.

Try carrots. But you need greens, so salads are always good. I like spinach a lot more than I do lettuce.

If all else fails, grab a can of V8 and pound it. It might taste disgusting, but it's over quick. I started doing that when I first got to college because veggies were hard to keep where I was living (bad fridge). So I just drank V8 and made sure to get some ruffage elsewhere. It worked fairly well. At least I was semi-healthy.

What about adding them to something like rice or pasta?
I mean, I know pasta isn't "great" for you, but it you add maybe baby peas or broccoli to some pasta with a little sauce (my preference is a chopped garlic, chicken boullion, water and olive oil mix), it's yuuuuuumy.

Is it a texture thing along with a taste issue? Personally, I can't STAND tomatoes, but like most greens out there. How about soups? could you eat a homemade beef stew with carrots/turnip/onions?

Ok trying to forget the immature side to this topic this is how I handle vegetables.
I tend to be fine with it (I like eating corn, pea, cauliflower, broccoli and chinese lettures) but I am tried of eating extra of it when I'm full (I don't care how much nutrients it has, I'm a adult, not a kid and I had my fair share of eating it already!).
The way I handle eating it is by adopting this type of motto-Just eat all of it straight away and once they're clear, you have now got remaining of the time eating whatever you want now.

I had the same problem until I entered catering in college. Simply promise yourself to try everything at least once, if it makes you vomit so be it, you tried. Eventually you will find things that aren't half bad. Saying that though today I had to try coleslaw didn't end well but now I know for sure.

Are you sure you or the one who cooks it for you isn't overdoing it then? Many vegetables lose taste, strength and texture if you boil them for too long.
It dosn't really matter if they're overcooked or not. The only thing you can do to a cooked vegetable is to try to cover the taste with something else.

There's a few exceptions. I already said boiled broccoli, and now that I think about it, tomatoes aren't that bad either.
Most of the time fresh vegetables are fine, but if you try to make anything but a salad out of them, then all you're doing is ruining them.

Best answer is just keep trying different veg, they all taste smell and feel different so you can't dislike them all. try Okra, fennel, celariac, squash, eggplant and choi sum to name a few.

If all else fails just chop all your veg and jam it inside a chicken... nothing can taste bad once it's cooked in hot chicken juice for an hour or so

Slight correction first, corn isn't a vegetable, it is a grain, like rice or wheat or barley, bulghour, etc. It's good to keep in mind because they're nutritionally different, you should have corn instead of, say, pasta, not instead of green beans.

Anyways, depending on how they're cooked, maybe you could stand them? While it's typically hard to hide vegetables, if what you care about is nutrients I find that using vegetable broth rather than water to cook stuff in (for instance rice or lentils) allows you to get the nutrition without eating the vegetables themselves.
Most other ways I can think of include fattening food hiding the vegetables, but I guess you could try putting them in an omelet and see how that works for you?

Also since you like fruit, try to have them often, preferably not the very sweet ones. Fruit aren't as good nutritionally as vegetables because they're sweeter and have a lesser range of nutrients, but they're still healthy. Just have them on their own, not with sugar or cream or syrup or in pie.

The problem here is that fruictose sugars (or fruit sugar) is actaully pretty bad for you, so eating a lot of fruit counteracts any excersise or dieting you maybe doing.

Number 1 tip if you wanna lose weight is excersise.
Number 2 is suck it up and fix your diet, They might taste nasty but that's not the point is it? you wanna fix your body image then get off your ass and do it. try a vegtable stirfry, or veg chowmein. veg is nice depending how you wanna make it, but not knowing your tastes how can we tell you what tastes good.
