I don't hate those people, I just think they are miss-informed. I love my classic rock and never once seen someone call it "screamo" though. Not big on the heavy metal (no offense to those who do) because I can't understand what they are saying and I enjoy more relaxing stuff of something I can dance to. Metal, for me, is mostly headbanging and mosh-pits. I can deal with metal but I prefer my rock and everyone I meet either loves rock too or they are into the hip-hop pop thing.

I love seeing people flip a shit about pop. Theirs always going to be shitty processed music, and people who enjoy listening to it. I probably see more angsty metalheads flip out at preps then I see the preps even mention whatever genre the minority in question might listen too.

So they don't like the same music as you. Chill out, it doesn't matter.

do you, fellow metalheads and even just people who appreciate music that requires SKILL to play (like classic rock such as The Who and ZZ Top), hate that our music is ALL being pidgeon-holed by youtube as "screamo"?

seriously, you ask anyone who's into pop music about what they think of rock and they'll say "it's just people screaming."

on a scale of 1-10, how high is your rage over this? im seriously at 11 right now, pushing 12 because the youtube generation is growing up thinking anything that's not processed bullshit like anything on Wild 94.9 or that isn't Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber is simply Emo/Screamo crap.

Off-topic: yeah, i know i have another thread here, but my rage at this was just provoked when i saw a video that said "Miley Cirus Screamo Version" or something like that and i listened to it and it was ACTUALLY GRINDCORE! THERE'S A HUGE FUCKING DIFFERENCE PEOPLE! IN TERMS OF SKILL REQUIRED AND STYLE! DON'T YOU EVER MIX GRINDCORE AND DEATH METAL UP WITH PUSSY BULLSHIT LIKE FALLOUT BOY OR MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE OR AFI!

/rant
I appreciate all music that requires skill to play. As such, I have a definite appreciation of pop. And, in my experience, people know very well that not all rock is "just people screaming."

In fact, I've never had somebody tell me that in my entire life. Not once.

In addition, I love how you stereotype all emo and screamo as "crap" when it is equally valid, just as valid as metal. How dare you claim the moral high ground when your argument reeks of hypocrisy? In case you hadn't realized, you are the problem. Not anyone else, but you. You are ruining good things for the rest of us. You are holding back your preferred style of music through your terrible attitude. Please rethink your behavior. It is not appropriate.

The only thing that pisses me off is people lumping "screamo" and metal into the same category. Or more specifically, people calling metal screamo. Because it's not. But then I end up just popping in the earphones and tuning them out anyways.

Doesnt bother me that much. People will listen to what they like, whether its Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, or Lady Gaggi... I mean Gaga...

Let them think what ever they want and enjoy what they want...until they try to change my car radio stations, than they're getting kicked the fuck out...

I feel for you mate. Although it can be proved bias as we could all think Pop is the same crap. Then the intelligent person pops along and says 'nay!' -cough-BonsaiK-cough-

Maybe...sometimes, actually not really. Because all those people on youtube are actually the same 12 year olds that ruined MW2, and I don't give a flying shit about them.

I hate people who love genre x, and believe that anyone else who doesn't appreciate genre x as much as they do has no taste in music and deserves to drown in a pot of boiling water.

Seriously. I love Loreena Mckennitt and Enter the Haggis, but I don't stuff it down the throat of any wannabe Eminem or Lil Wayne; as much as I despise those two artists and their respective genres. And though I think lowly of those genres, I try to do my best to not think lower of someone else if they think highly of them.

It's all a matter of opinions and taste. Get over it. If you don't like a certain kind of music, don't listen to it. It's that simple.

my attitude is just as valid as appropriate who claim metal and rock is all just screaming people you can't understand

what im really pissed about is how metal and rock are being pigeonholed as "Emo/Screamo" when they're entirely different things, and i dont see how people screaming about how life sucks (when you're a multi-millionaire like most Emo/Screamo performers are)

dont go off and tell me that I am the problem with Rock and Metal being confused with people screaming about how their lives suck when they have a zillion dollars and a million groupies at their beck and call. you obviously missed the point of this thread, which was me being angry that most young people i speak to think Rock (even stuff like AC/DC and Foghat) is all people screaming so you can't hear them. your argument, therefore, is not valid.

i dont want to shove my music on anyone else, i just dont want my music to be confused with other genres is what i was trying to say (if you look through all the "caps locks" you can see that)

As much as I agree with you, I have to gripe about your delivery. It's posts like this that give our site a bad rap. We Escapists are known as snooty and condescending and elitist elsewhere around the Interblag.

Be subtle about it and just say "Youtube (insert good metal song here) and you will defiantly change your mind" Then walk off. It may be more effective then going "FUCK YOU!" too :D

Bullshit. It sounds like screaming to me so I'll call it screamo. Fie on you. And just so you know, even MIXED music takes hours to make. A friend and I just arranged two TouHou songs for violin, two pianos, cello, and viola and it took more than a week of work. Seriously. Try to just ARRANGE some music and you'll understand there's difficulties in all music. Now we have to play the parts...but that's okay, I've only got piano 2 and she's got violin two. lol. We've got more....talented people on the hard parts.

I'm a huge fan of rock, and I like a few metal bands, but I utterly despise screamer/screamo bands (although I'm a huge Nirvana fan)

I hate bands that do nothing but scream and don't sing. Because they're "hard-core". Being hard core is nothing but a bunch of BS.

But I don't hate metal, I just find certain varieties to be very annoying.

It doesn't bother me, because no one calls the music I listen to screamo.

The fact is for everyone who's ignorant enough to assume all metal is screamo there is someone ignorant enough to assume Metallica are original or that nothing has context. Then again there is going to be someone like me who didn't listen to Johnny Cash til a couple of weeks ago. I could hate these people or I could go and buy more records and focus on getting rid of my own ignorance! That's my poorly punctuated opinion.
