Well if were going into specifics, Linkin Park nor Evanescence arent emo.

The actual emo, which is short for Emotive Hardcore, has a distinct style within itself, and screamo is just as sub-genre of emotive hardcore.
Aye but it brings up my point quite easily, Music gets miss genreed if thats a word EVERYDAY, I live in a jock town so anything close to what I like is considered emo ((See Nerd/Emo relationship.)) So my point is thus.

Do not scream at others for missrepresenting something, it just drives that missrepesntation stronger.

Suck it up
Tell them the truth.
Drop it.

Not raged at all. Just remember this is one of the only few intelligent places on the Internet, and we understand most things unlike most other people. Just let them be ignorant.
"This is one of the only few intelligent places on the internet" That's a joke right? You mean we differ in opinion...I would hope.
The second that everyone starts parading that we are the high brow intelligent hot spot of the web is when I'm going to leave this website.
You might want to leave, then, because there have been members saying that since before either one of us joined :p We aren't the most intelligent community on the web, but we are one of the best as far as having intelligent discourse that doesn't spiral into flame wars. The mods can be harsh, but they keep the riff-raff out -- for the most part.

I hate it when people describe themselves as "TRUE" for something. Why does your fandom override someones taste? They may be rockers but you're a true rocker, you're the real deal and they're just suckers, is that it? Let them listen to what they want to listen to. If you don't think it requires skill, or you don't like it, then don't listen to it. Since when did something have to be difficult to be good? From my experience, in trying to make a song more difficult, I've actually made them worse than my initial idea for it.

Well, If you think about it metal is considered a sub-genre of rock, and screamo is actually considered a sub-genre of metal.

I'm a huge fan of rock, and I like a few metal bands, but I utterly despise screamer/screamo bands (although I'm a huge Nirvana fan)
Wait... what? The syntax in that sentence would imply Nirvana is screamo. Which it isn't. Nirvana is grunge.

OT: People's ignorance amuses me sometimes. Other times it makes me shake my head, but ultimately it doesn't bother me.

Edit: oh, and to clarify, it's nothing to do with "metal is great and screamo is shit so don't confuse them." That's just hypocritical. However, I don't like it when people talk out of their ass either, so if you want to comment on a band's genre, make sure you know what that genre is.

No rage at all.

Do you really expect the YouTube community(who are a bunch of 13 year-olds trying to be cool), to not pigeon-hole music?

Just ignore them.

EDIT:

Also, don't say shit like the above, because it makes you sound like an elitist 12 year-old who just discovered drop C tuning.

It's probably just in hibernation. Give it another 5-8 years and another act will come out to start things all over again.

Same could be said of any genre.

Welcome to being old. We were just about to hobble to the park and shout at the kids, but there's always room for one more.
They don't get our music and we don't get theirs.

It doesn't enrage me....I usually just correct people. Ultimately the genres that are Rock and Metal have so many sub-genres that it's easy for people who don't listen to it regularly to get confused.

EDIT: Before anyone goes off and yells at me for being "ignorant" and biased. What I'm getting mad about is how my genre is being confused with other genres that i hate. It would be like if people said "Shadow of the Collosus is stupid because its just walking around and jumping on shit." that would make any gamer mad, right? I just dont like people being ignorant and mixing up Rock and Metal with Screamo/Emo creatures is all, and that's what this rant is about.

do you, fellow metalheads and even just people who appreciate music that requires SKILL to play (like classic rock such as The Who and ZZ Top), hate that our music is ALL being pidgeon-holed by youtube as "screamo"?

seriously, you ask anyone who's into pop music about what they think of rock and they'll say "it's just people screaming."

on a scale of 1-10, how high is your rage over this? im seriously at 11 right now, pushing 12 because the youtube generation is growing up thinking anything that's not processed bullshit like anything on Wild 94.9 or that isn't Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber is simply Emo/Screamo crap.

Off-topic: yeah, i know i have another thread here, but my rage at this was just provoked when i saw a video that said "Miley Cirus Screamo Version" or something like that and i listened to it and it was ACTUALLY GRINDCORE! THERE'S A HUGE FUCKING DIFFERENCE PEOPLE! IN TERMS OF SKILL REQUIRED AND STYLE! DON'T YOU EVER MIX GRINDCORE AND DEATH METAL UP WITH PUSSY BULLSHIT LIKE FALLOUT BOY OR MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE OR AFI!

/rant
Im fifteen years old, EVERYONE MY AGE IS THIS STUPID, and i dont just mean the metal thing i mean they think games that arent corridor shooters are terrible because "WHY DO I HAVE TO WALK WAAAAAAAAAAAH" it makes feel truly sad for humanity when people like this will someday be the generation in political and economical power.

I've never seen this once. Ever.

It wouldn't even mess me up too bad. I know I make mistakes over things I don't understand, so I don't know why I would expect someone to be better at it. Sure I usually try and expand my sphere of knowledge once my ignorance has been pointed out, but I know that that makes me unusual as well.

This has been a recurring issue for me too.

I like metal and hardcore music, and I've had to sit down and explain the difference many a time. My adolescent years were filled with the likes of Botch, Cave In, Converge, Deftones, Cult of Luna, Poison the Well... all bands mistaken by the musically ignorant for screamo.

These are not screamo. An example of screamo bands would include Fugazi (though not all of their songs), Orchid, Hot Cross, The Locust, Circle Takes the Square, The Blood Brothers, etc.

Bert McCracken, lead singer of The Used, stated that "screamo" is merely a term "for record companies to sell records and for record stores to categorize them."

I personally love screaming in my music if the instrumental aspect is already heavy. It's like adding peanut butter to chocolate.
