My rage meter seems to be broken, because it isn't moving.

I hate the fact that people felt the need to create all these sub-genres just to make fun of the music other people like and put it down. The original few genres were fine. Now there are like 500 different types of metal that all sound the same.

Just like what you like and screw the categories.

WTF stop being so ignorant and biased. It's all subjective in the end anyway.

I suggest getting over yourself.

The thing that I took away from this was that the kids of today don't know shit about good music.
Which I wholeheartedly agree with.
Yeah this.
OT: I know that kids cant say thats Stairway to Heaven if they hear the first two bars. I know they really will say "The Who?" I know because I live with 3 of them. The only thing you could do to even make steps to fix it is explain it to everyone who has it wrong. And yes I do happen to hate pop, but other people are allowed to listen to it.

Rage= 2. I don't like screamo bands, or emo bands, or even most current metal bands. But there are a couple of bands that I think are talented, such as My Chemical Romance or Dragonforce, and I respect them as much as Guns n' Roses, Maiden, or ACDC, and don't give a shit which subgenre they are. All I need to know is that they are some kind of rock/metal, and they sound good.

Now the Jonas brothers, on the other hand, or Miley Cyrus. I don't know where people get off calling them rock. If they're rockstars then I'm a muslim fundamentalist.

It would be like if people said "Shadow of the Collosus is stupid because its just walking around and jumping on shit."
No it wouldn't. Shadow of the Colossus involves plenty of walking around and jumping on shit. It's a silly conclusion to come to, but isn't really inaccurate or confusing genres.

If someone said something like "Shadow of the Colossus is stupid because it's not an RPG"... that would be retarded.

But still, i'd probably just get over it. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

I'll be honest, I love metal, but even I have trouble telling the myriad of genres apart sometimes. There's a lot of them, and they are fairly poorly defined.

So it doesn't surprise me that people who don't actually listen to metal are ignorant about it. It's annoying, but what else did you expect? Just ignore them and enjoy the music!

Rage: 2 to 3 tops.

I get the "its just people screaming" comment a lot being in a town full of country hicks, but it doesn't really irk me because I'll just turn up my Slayer music until I've drowned them our and they can go off listening to their songs about drinking and break-ups (see I can stereotype too :p)
Rage=2 at most

I sidestep the whole issue and mostly listen to blues. Nobody can tell me Stevie Ray Vaughn is anything but a downhome blues guy. And I love it.
Yeh, basically. Except insert Dexter Romweber and Screamin' Jay Hawkins into the mix too.

Anyway, rock and blues are so dead. The future lies with chap-hop, all the suckers who doubt it need to get their heads examined.

I frankly don't care. The only reason I hate youtube right now is the fact that 2/4 videos give me the "this video is unavailable in your region" message. This new type of international "fuck you" is really starting to piss me off.

EDIT: Before anyone goes off and yells at me for being "ignorant" and biased. What I'm getting mad about is how my genre is being confused with other genres that i hate. It would be like if people said "Shadow of the Collosus is stupid because its just walking around and jumping on shit." that would make any gamer mad, right? I just dont like people being ignorant and mixing up Rock and Metal with Screamo/Emo creatures is all, and that's what this rant is about.

do you, fellow metalheads and even just people who appreciate music that requires SKILL to play (like classic rock such as The Who and ZZ Top), hate that our music is ALL being pidgeon-holed by youtube as "screamo"?

seriously, you ask anyone who's into pop music about what they think of rock and they'll say "it's just people screaming."

on a scale of 1-10, how high is your rage over this? im seriously at 11 right now, pushing 12 because the youtube generation is growing up thinking anything that's not processed bullshit like anything on Wild 94.9 or that isn't Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber is simply Emo/Screamo crap.

Off-topic: yeah, i know i have another thread here, but my rage at this was just provoked when i saw a video that said "Miley Cirus Screamo Version" or something like that and i listened to it and it was ACTUALLY GRINDCORE! THERE'S A HUGE FUCKING DIFFERENCE PEOPLE! IN TERMS OF SKILL REQUIRED AND STYLE! DON'T YOU EVER MIX GRINDCORE AND DEATH METAL UP WITH PUSSY BULLSHIT LIKE FALLOUT BOY OR MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE OR AFI!

/rant
CONFUSING SCREAMO AND GRINDCORE?! NYYYYARRR!!!1

You do realise how ridiculous you sound, right? There's another level of people above you who laugh at all these stupid little pseudo genres and really couldn't give the smallest shit in the known universe about the intricate differences.

Most people don't know what metal is. They just think it's some guy screaming to noise. Metal is such a diverse and great genre but it's so far from the mainstream they have no idea that music exists beyond what's on radio or tv.

I did get mildly annoyed when someone referred to Inflames as emo. Rather than dwell on it I had better things to do, like listening to Inflames.

As for why being an Opeth fan would put you on a higher standard as far as genre knowledge goes, the kind of metal heads who listen to Opeth are usually the kind who really get into the genre,
What metalheads do you know? The kind that listen to Opeth are the kind that smoke pot all day and listen to music that is incredibly technical but not acctually good songwise.

"How can you not like this song its in the key of B123124348295723948273492842 flat and goes through 6 bagillion differant time signatures ?"

"Bescause that doesn't make it sound good."

Esentially the musical equivalent of someone who goes to modern art galleries.
I'm going to follow up your question with another one: What kind of potheads do you know? Because I've never met a pothead who was into Opeth. Granted, I knew a pothead in highschool who was an excellent classical Pianist and knew his theory, but even he wasn't into metal.

Also, that hurts. I like both prog rock and prog metal :p [sub]and no, I'm not a pothead -- just a music geek. I'm going to school to be a teacher here, I can't even drink underage without fear of losing all hope of future employment.[/sub]
What pot heads do you know? all the ones I know are all metal heads.... apart from the ones living in coucil estates.

Anyway I didn't mean prog metal/prog rock, just opeth. I like the odd bit of prog metal aswel. I'm talking about the ones who take it to far, the ones who already play guitar and listen to stuff that's just pointlessly technical.
