To be fair to the OP, he did say it was a rant.

rant-to speak or declaim extravagantly or violently; talk in a wild or vehement way;
That said, stupid people will be stupid. Just ignore them and listen to what you want to listen to.

PS- Reading youtube comments is never a good idea.

I am trying to understand something here. Why are you so bothered by the opinions of others? You already know the difference between genres like grindcore, death metal, classic rock, and so on. You listen to those genres so you can point out even subtle differences among those genres and others.

It ain't dead; it's just been silenced indefinitely.
Ska will NEVER die. EVER.

Not dead, just taciturn, reticent, and a little addled.
......dead
Not dead. kman123 proves there's still a heartbeat. Asleep, maybe? In shock? Had its vocal cords removed?

Here and there, and sometimes everywhere.

I really don't know why anyone would care, you like that you like and there will always be someone who will be opposing you, and I can't see any good reason to argue about it.
And when someone labels music as Screamo they are clearly on the mental development stage of a monkey, so what would be the use in arguing.

Sorry, I just sort of laughed until my side hurt when I saw the title "true rockers" you're labeling yourself as. Also, every genre takes skill to play and create music with. Ever tried playing a Saxophone in a Jazz band?

Anywho, on to the actual topic: I wouldn't exactly call myself a fan of metal. I like a few songs here and there, some of them actually sound pretty good while the rest of it sounds much like what YouTube is labeling it as: Scream-O.

You have to admit, however, that a lot of genres that people don't necessarily listen to themselves are usually lumped together into a bigger category so they know what to avoid. They don't frankly care what it's called, they don't like it because to them, it all sounds the same.

The only reason why it sounds different to you is because you are a fan of the genre, and you know what the differences are. Granted, I can probably tell Metal from Scream-O, but not everyone can. YouTube has got to have some Metal and Scream-O fans in their employees, and undoubtedly they will probably correct it if they want or need to. And even you have to admit that some Metal sounds suspiciously like Scream-O...but, perhaps the band took some Prozac before they played.

So, for now...I can safely say they it's a minor issue, and one I believe is easily brushed-off by such a large company. Get over it.

...and yourself, while you're at it.

The "Metal" lable is garbage nowadays. I'm going back to my "Wild nights, hot and crazy days."

Yes, I dislike when people call metal screamo, or say they hate metal because of the screaming. But what I hate more is elitist metalheads who think their music is superior to all other genres, and that all other music doesn't require skill to make.

I listen to metal, and you are ruining the genre for me.

Although, I will admit, what is almost as bad is when scene kids talk about how they listen to metal and list bands which aren't metal. And keep your hardcore dancing the fuck out of a mosh pit, every time I get hit by one of you guys dancing with your eyes closed, I start to care less about possibly being banned from my favorite club if I hit you back.

I'm going to follow up your question with another one: What kind of potheads do you know? Because I've never met a pothead who was into Opeth. Granted, I knew a pothead in highschool who was an excellent classical Pianist and knew his theory, but even he wasn't into metal.
I actually worked at a liquor store with a guy who was a dedicated pot head, and the only thing that eclipsed his love of pot and Opeth was his love of Lamb of God. Also, the pot smokers and dealers in the town I grew up all listened to various metal and hard rock groups.

OT: It is fairly annoying the way people screw up genres, but it's nothing to get mad about. Shit, I'm just as guilty when it comes to trance/techno/dance music. Can never get them straightened out properly. The point is, music genres have gotten to the point where so many lines are blurred that you might as well just abandon the attempts to place everything into a genre altogether! Also, people who comment in youtube videos are typically either total fanboys or trolls. Take them seriously at your peril.

They can think all they want, I won't get mad. The only stuff that gets me annoyed is how all songs end up getting 5000 comments on how bad Justin Bieber is. Like I fucking care. Also, those "X (being the number of thumbs down) People are bloody stupid". I would rather have a comment about the music instead of that crap.

Honestly I don't care. I don't tend to "pigeonhole" the things I like. I either like it or I don't - I rarely bother considering what genre things are. A lot of things I like appear within a limited subset of genres, as defined by others :p.

If you dismiss things because some says it's of "xyz" genre, then you'll most likely miss out on things from time to time.

Youtube comments are bad for your brain mmmk?
Tbh, Youtube attracts the worst commentors I've seen on the internet. I rarely bother reading comments on Youtube any more because of it, as most are worthless or plain stupid. Not worth going through the dross for the few good gems imo.

I'm old enough now to have hear this bullshit so many times I don't care now. I love how youre getting angry at them because they don;t know they different genres of heavy music. "It's not screamo it's grindcore! GAWD!!!"

Do you know the difference between trance, dance, techno, happy hardcore and dub-step?? Just because these people don't know the details of all your fucking elitist niche genres doesn't mean you should go off on a massive rage about it.
"It's just the same looped tune over and over and over and over again. GAWD!!!"

Besides, we should all know by now that a lot of people who comment on youtube have no brains.
