I have a pokemon question I know I will regret.

Red or Blue.
Easiest and best, in my opinion.
Seconded, if only because they're the only Pokemon games I've ever played, but from what I can gather they were the better releases of the series.

Red/Blue/Yellow are the simplest to play and fun once you get into them but I'm not a fan of the caves near the start, I like ruby/Sapphire because of all the secrets and stuff and although I haven't played the newest ones I'm sure the same could be said for them.

Imo yellow is the only way to go, its far better than blue and red which are just remakes of each other with equally annoying but different colour schemes. It also doesnt ask you to take interest in anymore than the original/only 151 pokemon, it also doesnt force/encourage you to take part in flimsy contests that do nothing to add to the experience of the game. And lastly yellow is actually challenging the first time you play it and hence the faint but noticable sense of accomplishment when you slaughter your first gym fight, something which all of the later games lack.

Red and Blue, Rare Candy Cheat FTW.

Other than that, FR/LG is probably the best option.

everything before crystal was good because I loved kanto and Johto was ok, Crystal was awesome because you could go to kanto and kick the harder gym leaders asses and ever face off against Red (sheer genius). But when it hit 3rd generation it got shit

Because the graphics of the older games suck big ones try out Leaf green or Fire Red (remakes of the original red and blue) because thats when pokemon was a challenge now its just too easy

I would get Yellow, but they're not easy to find so you should get Platinum. It's the newest one and it's a whole lot of fun.

I have never played a pokemon game, and was always curious to try. I don't care about the show, story, etc. I just see the game for what you do in it. Go on an adventure to capture and fight pokemon.

SO I must ask since there are a dozen or more games, which one is the best? or at the very least would best include the concept of traveling the world with minimal headache.
I agree that Red/Blue are the most original, but I would go for FireRed/LeafGreen for practical purposes. The story and Pokemon are mostly the same and the graphics are infinitely better. Add that to the fact that Red/Blue aren't that common anymore.

Indeed, but Fire Red and Leaf Green aren't that easy to find either.I really want them though since, they were the best ones yet.

Plus the colours on yellow begin to hurt your soul after a few hours.

hmm ok so far it's Gold and siver for me. I do like the night/day concepts a lot. it would be a good start. yes I know these games are rare..but I have my ways *smirks*
Screw both Gold AND Silver, get Crystal. All the Pokemon in both versions on one game, the Pokemon have actual animation, plus everything that made Gold and Silver the best Pokemon games ever IMO.

And you can pick a girl in that one too if you wanted.

I've only played Red/Blue, then I picked up Diamond/Pearl recently. It was a blast from the past to me, was like replaying my childhood. Some things to note

The gameboy ones obviously have worse graphics, but there isn't so much bullshit. Also, the gameboy ones have 151 pokemon, which is probably enough. I find the pokemon to be more interesting in the early ones, the new pokemon seem like they just slapped some shit together and called it a monster.

Regardless, the new games are good and I don't see a reason NOT to start with them to be honest.

Crystal - Had loads of pokemon, two huge islands and it is still the best in the series.
