If Valve doesn't announce Episode 3, or HL3 running on a new engine soon I'm just done with them as a developer.

Sure, it's more of the same. BUT I'M TOTALLY OKAY WITH THAT.

Now they just announced Portal 2...or should I say Portal: More of the Same."
I mean, at least they could have it on a new engine, but NO!
They have used the same engine for an entire decade.
WOW!
Not to mention they have completely forgotten their best franchise! Hey guys! Remember Dr. Freeman! You know, the whole of Earth and stuff!
There should have been no "episodes" in the first place for HL2, and they should have all come out in the same year considering around five minutes were put into each section.
They are the perfect example of a lazy company, stop using the nasty Source engine, and get their engineers to make something that doesn't have Gamecube graphics.
I give up. I can't be pacified with TF2 updates forever. If Valve doesn't announce Episode 3, or HL3 running on a new engine soon I'm just done with them as a developer.
Actually I think they were done with Ep. 3 a long time ago, Gabe just ate it.
What do you think about the company?
I've never understood this craze either, considering i've never actually eaten it..Swny Nerdgasm said:You're seriously going to tell me that bacon is better than say, steak?Istanbul said:It's nature's perfect food.Swny Nerdgasm said:This really has nothing to do with the topic, but seriously WHAT THE FUCK is up with people's obsession with bacon?

Proof that that's real. If so, then damn, those are pretty graphics. Quite a nice apocalyptic wasteland too.NAHTZEE said:IF you MUST insist, there is a leaked version of episode 3, i will post the link if you want

GoldSrc (Or GoldSource) is the Half Life 1 engine.OhJohnNo said:I thought the Source engine had aged really well in Half-Life 2 when I played it, actually. And besides, they're supposed to be working on a new engine now (GoldSrc or something).
YouI can say a lot of things about Valve (or more specifically, their games... well, alright, just HL2), but calling them lazy is a bit of a stretch. They've got 3.5 different IPs going at once (Portal being in the same universe as Half-Life) - and their release schedule is quite good, to be honest. Half-Life 3 (it is probably a full game, rather than an episode by now) has only taken 3 years so far. That's honestly not long at all, Duke Nukem Forever took literally 4 times that long. And in the meantime (and beforehand), they've released other games frequently, and are soon going to release another (Portal 2). Valve work hard for their fans, to me it sounds like you're just being ungrateful.
Well then really what is the point in even quoting me in the first place. I am a little peeved by this. What a completely and utterly pointless quote. Graphics should never come over gameplay or fixing bugs. I am not going to add IMO as it is obviously an opinion as I rather my games work right and play right that look nice.JeanLuc761 said:Personally, I couldn't disagree more with this statement here but it's not worth arguing about.Glademaster said:also graphics are not and should never be important.
@OP
Anything I say would be reiterating what everyone else has responded with, but Valve truly is one of my favorite companies. Sure, the Source engine is showing its age but it still runs like a dream and it gets the job done. I'm hard-pressed to complain about that.
On top of that, I have never seen them release a bad or buggy game, ever. That's an astonishing achievement in its own right. They can take all the time they want.
