I have not played an RPG to match FF10 yet... what would you suggest?

I loved the turn based gameplay, the non-bobblehead character models, the photo realistic clips, epic story. What, since FF10, can match that? So far FF12 is kind of boring. LOTR 3rd Age was shallow by comparison.

Your advice is appreciated.

For older generations I would suggest Dragon Quest VIII or Legend of Dragoon.
For the newer generations I would suggest Fallout 3 or The Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion.

Don't play many rpg's do you? There are hundreds of games a million times better than FF 10. I could name a few that I like: Last Remnant, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Tales of Vesperia, Persona 4. Those are a few of my fave rpg's anyway. Fallout 3 is pretty darn good, so is Oblivion.

I'm with the above sentiments on your choices but to actually help, The Digital Devil Saga series on the PS2, Turn based, has the Mantra system, that is simmler to the sphere grid from FF10, a great story with plenty of twists. It's a bit hard to find and it helps to have both as the first one drops a massive cliff hanger.

EDIT: Also the Persona series, excellent games

But 10 was the only one bad enough to need a sequel.
Yet 7 got a film, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and a few other stuff which I can't recall. Some sequels, some prequels, and 7 was still a damn good game.

Personally, I loved 10, and I would recommend Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. Lost Oddysey is turn-based combat, and a very good game, ToV is not the best, but its enjoyable and not afraid to make you laugh.

I'll agree with Mass Effect but the rest are pretty bad. I just couldn't get into any of them like I did with FFX. The story just completely pulled me in. I haven't played Oblivion yet but I do plan to, is it on PC? Fallout 3 was good but, unfortunately, my brother stole it and took it to university.

I'll agree with Mass Effect and Persona 4. It's really awesome. Well, Persona 3 is awesome, but everyone agrees that P4 is even better.

I have no idea how old you are so telling you this may be of no use but retro rpging is where its at. I don't mean old nes titles i mean ps1, because that was my first console and probably one of the best rpg consoles out(i'm a bit of a fanboy). Go for the dragon quest series i'd suggest 7(ps1, actually dragon warrior) and (8). The early dragon warriros(as they were known here in the states) play for the old gameboy and the DS. There are the early FInal fantasys and for some reason i can't think of anymore right this second.... disagee so addictive i'd suggest starting from the first game for the ps2 tho that was probably the best and will teach you the basics, there are plenty of sequels of disagee if you like it.

And for those early systems that you can't find those games like for the GB color or ps1 use an emulator it might take you over an hour to set it up if you don't know what your doing but its worth it.

Depends on what you're looking for, I'm just assuming you liked the combat style of FFX.
If you want a title similar in combat style and don't mind dated sprite graphics, I'd recommend Mana Khemia. Good Combat, Interesting Crafting System, Fun Quirky Characters with good voice work.(I didn't really cringe at the reading of the dialogue, like some other titles in recent memory. Magna Carta, you're on notice.) Though it does suffer from a few things. The leveling up system, though reminiscent of FFX, is a bit tedious and doesn't allow you any freedom in raising your characters that FFX did. I can't help but think that all of the time spent in upgrading my characters would've been avoided if I could just, you know, level up like any other RPG. As far as the freedom, well you get 8 unique characters each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and do more than just switch places with your main party so this can be forgiven. The graphics, like I said, are dated sprites, not terribly done but its on the low spectrum of "fair" graphics.
All in all if you can get past the graphics, this is a good pick to play for an RPG.

I don't think you ever played a good RPG.

Go play Fallout and Earthbound.
BAM!
I gotta agree with him though, Turn Based combat blows. Once you find an RPG wit an awesome combat system you'll never go back to that shitty Turn Based crap again.
I would agree with you, if I didbn't enjoy both. Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, proved to me it can be done well.

oh shiitttt I can't believe i forgot this. Chrono trigge chrono cross. Pick up chrono trigger for the DS or emulate and get chrono cross for the ps1 or emulate. You could spend days on even just one of those games.

FFX is my favorite Final Fantasy also and I can suggest FF9 to you, it's just as good (It uses ATB though) great story, great characters, fun combat. ALthough people do turn pink when they use Trance (Overdrive).

I don't like FF12 either, or FF8. FF7 is meh to me, not that great.

EDIT:Also Oblivion and Fallout 3, but those go without saying.
