Ay, I don't want to sound like a spoil-sport. But... Please, no.

Team Fortress Maplestory is full enough as it is. Adding a campaign means that things get serious and that people are blamed when they leave the game.

This is not fun. TF2 is a comedy game. The sheer value is the multiplayer mode of Red vs. Blu, clashing against eachother without knowing that they are the same.

If I enter a map, I just want to play on the side I'm on. It focusses on competition, it's balanced on competition. There shouldn't be any co-op campaign because bots suck and Australians choose their kings by fighting kangaroos.
(Talking about the tf2-centric idea) It's really only cooperative in the form of cutscenes, the rest of the time its three teams: The BLU team attempting to complete their objectives before the RED team, and vice versa, and the New Mercs, who simply try to impede the progress of the RED and BLU with their superior numbers.
D:< Cutscenes?! Do you know what you're talking about? Nobody watches cutscenes! They want to play TF2, not watch a movie.

Sure, you could try and make maps that have a little plot that it's still RED vs. BLU, but then it's just a map in the eternal struggle. At the beginning of the maps you usually get a little video of instructions. (I SKIP these immediantly) And then you play, simple.

You could create a series of maps and call it a campaign, players wouldn't mind (except that they need to reload the maps again) and Valve never relies on cutscenes, they create in-game stories when they need to.

Your idea might be fine on it's own. But not in the concept of TF2, it just doesn't fit. And cloning TF2 won't cut it either.

(I was hoping you just invented a new series of weapons or something :( )

I honestly never knew Team Fortress 2 or L4D had a plot. I would love a campaign mode. All games need that!
They do, but only in the side materials. I want to expand on the little (and really good!)bits that Valve has already created.

When I looked at the thread title I knew the OP would be a new user. It's not really relevant, but I just found it interesting.

So if TF2 and L4D had a baby?
That pretty much sums it up.

It doesn't really seem to fit in TF2 imo.

If this was created, it should be a completely seperate game.
Yeah, TF2 is a multiplayer game, and while this would be related, It's not what people play TF2 for.

Yeah, I know. Its just that, looking at the fluff, it seems to me that there's a story that Valve is developing, bit by bit. This woulb be a different game

Yeah I know. I just keep looking at the fluff and see this great big story that Valve is feeding us bit by bit. This would be a separate game that's more focused on co-op and the characters than TF2.

Just curious, did you like the Meet The Team series of commercials?
Sorry, didn't really finish my idea there. If you liked them, then that's the sort of thing to expect here. It woulb be a more co-op experience than TF2, and more cinematic, too. I know, people don't typically like cutscenes, but these would be short snippets, preferably not much longer than the longest of those commercials, at most.

So basically in a nut shell you want Red v Blu v Green/Yellow(depending on which you count as your primary colour)?
I'd suggest Green. It better symbolizes the inexperience of the New Mercs. Also, I typically find green to have a wider range (dark to light) than yellow.

Well the only thing is green is the only colour that does not feature in the game at the moment and I want to keep my crosshair green.

That'd be pretty cool. And along the way, subtly tie TF2 into the Half-Life universe? Pwease?
The Valverse must be united!
but then they would have to shoe horn in L4D and L4D2 and that would make a big mess only suitable to be laughed at

Yyyeaaaaaaaah no.

Like, I think it's great as an idea. And I wouldn't mind a campaign or something that delved into their backstories a bit.

But the whole announcer idea is kinda meh imo (although that's not to say she should be excluded from the campaign), and more importantly I think in order for TF2 to keep its core multiplayer element, we need something short. Maybe have a reaally short campaign for each class that gave you a little practice if you're new, or maybe even have challenges for veterans, but keep it SHORT. Like, REALLY SHORT. But I do think it would be nice.

...oh, and I can't imagine multiplayer campaigns working either. TF2 has teamwork, but only to a certain degree. In fact, you're more likely to compete with your own teammates then you are to host joint operations with them- Medics and Engineers excluded.

This is true. Except for the Meet the Spy video. Surprise ending. Just when you think you know whodunnit.

Anyway, OP, it is a good idea. Reminded me of L4D without zombies, and it does sound epic. Like the Highlander event. It would be interesting to see it but if you get a lot of noise on the Escapist from this, submit it ib4ne1lse!

Ah, see, this is why it would be a separate game. Sorry, if you haven't been following along, but I've made a few adjusments to the idea as time has gone on. It would be designed around the TF2 setting, and use the same characters, but gameplay will be a bit different, and the game would be designed with those changes in mind. Also, the story could be changed, or be scrapped entirely, that was just something I canme up with when I started.

So this would be pretty much a separate game, a mod, somewhat in the vein of something like Synergy? Only, in the TF2 world? I suppose it sounds pretty interesting, and I do love playing new mods.

It would be a separate game, based on the TF2 setting, but designed a pinch of L4D, in that it would be a campaign driven co-op, as opposed to straight up multiplayer.

So, as I said, a bit like Synergy? If you don't know of Synergy, it's a multiplayer co-op game designed to let you co-op play through Half-Life 2 story missions.

Sounds good and in the TF2 spirit, but that is very had to make: new gamemodes, new maps, new player models, most likely new guns, new... well I wouldn't hold my hopes for it.
