...for many reasons!

It would take forever to go over all of them, so...I'll just give an example of what happened at work the other day. There was a guy who ordered a large soda, so, I gave it to him. Then after drinking part of it, he asks how much it is, despite there being a GIANT menu sign behind the counter, and so I tell him, and he says "Nah, that's too much."

So...he dug through the tip jar for the cash, handed it to me, then left. I was so stunned that I didn't even say anything...and he didn't even give me enough to pay for the thing. (Sales tax...)

Why are people such assholes?
In america we have a name for assholes like that they are called republicans and will rape your wives and steal your children if you give them the chance

And I don't care.

This is nothing but a tired juvenile revelation that most people come to realise is full of crap.

I can't help but feel that such an accusation as 'people are assholes' or 'I have no faith in humanity' requires such a profound lack of empathy as to border on the sociopathic. More of an incitement upon the speaker than the subject of their ignorant, arrogant bile.
I love you. Have my children.

Basically what he said. Albiet far more poetic and accurate than what i wanted to say, the "im so deep and cynical compared to this scum pile that is humanity" is an old old annoying line. Everyone's fucking sick of it. Its the new internet cool and personally im starting to really hate it. "Everyones an asshole except me" is a pretty crappy thing to say and if you really think it... well the guy i quoted said it better.

You, sir, have clearly never worked a day in your life. From what you've said here, I can gather your probably some 12 year old boy trolling the forums for kicks. Well, there's no place for asinine tripe here. People CAN be assholes, and if you didn't rely on mommy for a living, you'd know that. The OP is just venting, don't be a fuckin' asshole about it. Stop trolling and gtfo.
Aren't you as annoyed by this new "cool" as I am? Are you new to the escapist? Nay the internet? Its such an internet cool to hate everyone and feel better than 99.99999% of the world to view them as worthless assholes and achieve this perfect nirvana of morale superiority and arrogance. Its spouted all the time by teens finding this new thing called cynicism and just jumping on the "I'm so misunderstood and perfect in an ocean of assholes" band wagon that personally i find infuriating. Thing is OP and EVERYONE HERE, at some point in your life you have been that guy. Maybe not as bad. Maybe not on purpose. But you have been that guy that someone has said "what a perfect asshole" about or thought it. Maybe it was a single tiny thing and they misjudged you but they thought it none the less.

Now kudos to the OP he isn't doing it that badly, he doesn't come off arrogant, that guy was a massive dick. But he said THOSE WORDS. Those damn words. The ones that line the pigeon hole full of arrogant pigeons. Who ARE those whiny annoying teens who simply drip arrogance and a desperation to be "the internet cool". And thus he took his place in the pigeon hole. This just irks me.

That guy isn't saying that everyone's nice and there's no such thing as an asshole, hes saying that this "everyone's a dick who cares about nothing but themselves and money" bandwagon (closely related to the "all girls love these dicks that only care about themselves and money" internet cool bandwagon) is freaking old and annoying and doesn't make you look cool or worldly. It just makes you look a bit desperate to look cool or arrogant.

Well said man, well said.

I'm so sick of hearing the "I have no faith in humanity", its so full of shit. Almost as much as the people who apparently hate people and are self proclaimed misanthropes and yet happily post on a public forum.

I like to think most people are like Forrest Gump. Not too bright, but definitely good at heart. Of course, saying that i do believe that assholes can and do exist within humanity. Thing is they stand out because people tend to focus on the insignificant if the majority has become second nature.

If we replaced the OPs claim of "humanity" and changed it to "a certain race in humanity" would you argue the same? Certainly not. The OP is the child in this, attributing the actions of one person to all of humanity. Then demanding that humans sympathize with them. Right...
I guess but can you honestly say at no point in your life you never thought you had no faith in humanity,The OP is probably young and had a bad day and just wanted to feel like someone cared maybe he's being a little mellow dramatic about it but hell don't tear him down He's not the bad guy tear down the asshole who didn't pay he is the bad guy

For that particular person, a swift kick to the face and a boot out the fucking door... wait, what was the point again?

*reads the last part*

Oh... because you experience one asshole, the whole of humanity is made up of assholes, anyone ever tell you about what happens when you point fingers? There are assholes in this world, we learn to deal with it, or become assholes ourselves... in some cases, becoming an asshole may actually be the only way to deal with such people...

Also, I seriously doubt you have zero faith in humanity, cause if you did, you would probably be so depressed by the fact, you'd have committed suicide, instead of post a thread about it...

Join the club.

I've given up on the whole global warming thing. We're too selfish and stupid to have any hope of reversing it. I say just let it happen. Life on earth will continue long after we've destroyed ourselves.

That's where you drew the line? Give it a few minutes, I'm sure humanity will do something far more horrible that will crush your pathetic soul all the more efficiently.

We really need a drinking game for every time someone says they have no faith in humnity

OT: One Incident ≠ The world. Even if you have some more examples, they don't mean every is the same as the few people you know.

I guess I must be borderline sociopathic.

Welcome to the club. We are apparently a bunch of sociopaths.

I'll e-mail news of your plight to my deployed friends. Perhaps they'll be sufficiently moved by this injustice to seek a transfer to the ongoing efforts to dissuade eating and running in the region, but to be honest, we've all seen too many good men- a lot of them kids, really- get sent headfirst into that grinder and never come back out again.

My friend Johnny, from Basic? He got sent to the eating and running efforts right after joining up. We don't talk much anymore, but everyone can see it in his eyes. Something's different. Something's... gone. Maybe we shouldn't have faith in a world that can do that to a person.

I just don't know anymore.

Welcome to the club? Although, the example that you listed just sounds like you got outsmarted. Yeah, most people are assholes just savor the few that are actually decent/likeable.
Really? You consider that 'outsmarting'?
Look who walked away with the free drink.
If I punch a guy in the stomach and steal his wallet I wouldn't consider that 'outsmarting him', nor would I consider it 'outsmarting him' if I pick pocketed his wallet, I mean yeah, maybe that makes me superior in one way or another but what he did had nothing to do with intellect or guile, there has to be a better phrase to describe it. =/

People are assholes because we constantly find new ways to destroy ourselves and our environment, not because some guy you met the other day doesn't know how much a large soda costs.
Did you read the rest of the comment where he dug into the tip jar and used that to pay (not enough) and went off on his marry way?

We develop ways to destroy our enemies and protect ourselves, yes. We ruin the environment to better our lives too, that's understandable. At least those two have a greater purpose than wanting a soda.
Yeah I read it and I know, it was terribly terribly unethical. But since he broke such an obvious norm it's probably the result of some mental problem he has.

Now, things we should really be concerned about is what all of humanity does (or rather, problems that most of us in the western world indirectly or directly contributes to) and what is considered politically correct despite leading to the misery of millions.
It was inconsiderate, rude and far worse than wronging faceless people in an indirect way. As for leading to the misery of millions, some people will always have to suffer. It's not 'just' or 'right' in any way, but it's realistic. I'm not saying in the case of poverty we shouldn't be trying to help, but the people we're helping are often the problem. Dropping all the guns and loving each other unconditionally isn't going to happen, and the fact that it's not going to happen isn't a negative reflection on people in my opinion.

PS: It's not just the western world contributing. Infact I'm sure you could point to just about anyone in the world and lay some blame, if you're looking to do so.
