So in a confusing realization that I have no idea where my life is going (I realized this somewhere between my 300th hour of Team Fortress 2 and my presence at the midnight release for Modern Warfare 2), I decided to take advantage of my dual citizenship in Finland and join it's glorious military. I sent in my pledge the other day and I should be shipped out in 6 weeks. My question is this: Do you, the Escapists, think it was the right choice?

edit: Since my remark about the military being "glorious" has sparked controversy over the merits of nationalism, I'd like to state that, Nationalism, to me, is sort of a joke, so i figured it'd be amusing to put a nationalist spin on the sentence. It was never my intention to start a political debate.

Right decision? Debatable. It'd be an absolutely terrible decision for me to make to join the military. You on the other hand I'm not so sure about. The fact that you're calling any military "glorious" makes me worry though.

If you are capable of it, and fit enough to easily lift your bag or whatever they let you do, then it could be the right choice. Then again, if you aren't fit at all it could be a horrible decision.

You Finns make good Snipers, Russia would certainly have a hard time invading you.

Best of luck in your endeavours, unless of course we end up fighting each other.

Joining an army force is always a noble choice but you should have thought it over longer. My bro made the mistake of joining the US army and he didn't finish college. Its a shame cause he is a very responisble guy and pretty smart too. So now he is having a litte financial problems.

Russia tried and failed. Miserably, I might add.

Just to clarify, I wasn't serious when I said the military was "glorious". Nationalism is sort of a joke to me so I figured it'd be fun to put a nationalist spin on my sentence.

Well you wont have to worry hard about going to war seeing as Finland is a pretty peaceful nation, so the worst that could happen is that you wont like it, and you leave after your first tour. Which after words you wont have to much finding a job since people who were in the military usually get priority for employment. Im actually joining the United States Air Force after college, hopefully I can be a pilot.

Sure. It's one of the best militaries in the world apparently. One thing though, do you have the temperament for it? Because if you're no good at taking orders, don't expect to learn.

Also, whats the other country you have citizenship in?

Also, no military is glorious. Even if its nationalistic pride and everything, it's still just a job.
A group of people who will lay down their own lives for the good of the country and its people gets to be called glorious, or another less rediculous word with a similar meaning. Leave it to a bunch of videogame nerds who do nothing but sit on there asses all day to decide what is what.

And from what I understand, he was joking when he called his military glorious.

Well, first off good for you for making a decisive choice. If what you say is true then this will certainly give you some sort of temporary purpose. I just hope you never go to war with Britain and start shooting at me...

This time I really am surprised.
And I can tell you this, if they do have a real military then it is far from glorious.
Well, Finland has one of the best armies in the world. Russia couldn't even invade them. They also do have the best snipers in the world.

How would you expect it to defend itself otherwise? That really is quite silly.

Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_war

That is VERY much glorious.
