I just bought a PC gamepad to play Team Fortress 2.

Seriously, I tried the mouse and keyboard thing for about five minutes before I declared it simply unreasonable.

Does anyone else rightfully feel a real controller is the only way to play video games?

Good luck aiming with a real 3D world nudging analog sticks.
I have a PS 2 and a PSP. I like consoles and handhelds. But there should be a law against FPS on analog stick systems - as good as Peace Walker was.

People wil OBLITERATE you on the pc. It's fine for RPGS and such but honestly, M+KB is *standard* for FPS games.
Saying it's "Unreasonable" ...is hilarious.
Heres my argument... I can't stand aiming and turning the camera with the mouse. I feel like I'm playing with a flippin' n64 controller.

Only for certain games especially if I owned them on a console first. As for team fortress 2 there is no way I could play it with a gamepad, but hey if that's what works for you then more power to you.

Mouse and keyboard is the only way to go.
My advice is to play through Half Life 2 or another single player FPS before playing TF2 to get the controls down.

Good luck playing against people who can actually use mouse and keyboard. If you can play like that without failing then you got my respect.

Nope. Not at all. I do agree some games play easier on a pad, but a good majority are best with keyboard/ mouse. Team Fortress 2 along with most other shooters I would prefer keyboard/ mouse while playing.

the f2p players are so bad the game could actually be playable with a gamepad.

controllers are awful. any cross platform fps multiplayer has been abandoned because keyboard+mouse completely annihilates.

so to answer your question: no.

Lemme know what Server you play on and I'd be more than happy to collect the free kills that'll be you.

KB+M is far far faster than the sticks.

Nope, and I play 99% of the time on consoles using a controller.

An FPS? Mouse and keyboard is the way to go. Not using it on a PC game is simply crippling. You have my respect (as Vhite said) if you actually do well.

Pretty much this.

Nah, WASD plus a good gaming mouse is how to play games. A thumbstick can't nearly match the speed and precision of a mouse.

A PC FPS requires the precision of a mouse and keyboard. While I have played a few PC games that would have been improved by using a gamepad, shooters nearly always are best with mouse and keyboard.

As a rule, I tend to use mouse and keyboard for first person and controller for third person. Not all the time though, I use the mouse for Mass Effect and the controller for Mirror's Edge. I was brought up on consoles and only started playing on the PC a few years ago. The mouse and keyboard combo doesn't take too much effort to get used to, but even after a few years I still lose finger positions on the keyboard occassionally.

Overall the gamepad is easier to use, but the extra precision of the mouse is a must for some games in my opinion.

I prefer a light gun and a Dance Dance Revolution mat to gamepads for FPS.

what, why are you looking at me like that?

[/attempt at humor]

No. There are few genres of games that are simply too annoying to play with gamepads. I love my gamepad and all, but it's for racing games, rpg's and stuff like that. you know, stuff you don't need to have control over a tiny crosshair?

I honestly can't see how KB+M is unreasonable. And no wonder that you didn't like it if you only tried it for 5 minutes.

Dismissing a control system because you aren't used to it is silly, to be honest so is buying a game-pad when you can plug your ps3/360 controller into your computer and use it.
Still, easier kills for me :D

Are you really that lazy that you would rather play a PC FPS game with a gamepad instead of learning how to play with a mouse and keyboard? Anyway, you don't stand a chance. Not using a mouse and keyboard on a PC FPS is simply idiotic.

Yes, controllers work better for pretty much anything where you play as something.

Real time strategy and point-and-click games are better with a mouse.

All fine and dandy until you realize most PC games don't have aim-assist like their console cousins then proceed to realize how much you actually rely on that in console games.

Certain shooters work with a controller. I can play Call of Duty reasonably well with a 360 controller. If anything, Halo actually works better with a controller. But Team Fortress 2 is a mouse+WASD exclusive. Return your gamepad (or save it for another game) and learn to play with a mouse and keyboard. If you don't, prepare for a very un-fun experience as other players consistently dominate you because you can't aim nearly as fast as them (seriously, good luck hitting a moving Scout as a Sniper using an analogue stick).
