I just got a 360, so what games should I get?

Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned: Blootshot

Criminal Origins was a 360 launch title so it won't look as pretty as some of the newer games, but as far as games that are actually frightening with some solid voice acting, atmosphere, story, and gameplay.

Well halo (You can grab 1, 2 and ODST from games on demand, play through them then get 3 and Reach separately)
Probably the best introduction to 360 gaming, given the ease of control, the new features in each game and the rich storyline.

Gears of war is also a good one to pick up for the awesome combat and fun gameplay mechanics, Both games are quite cheap right now, so you can probably pick them up preowned for next to nothing

Another good purchase is Red dead redemption, a bit more expensive, but certainly worth a look.

And since the 360 is the platform for racing games you need to get: *takes breath*
PGR3
PGR4
Blur
The Club (okay not strictly a racing game but made by bizarre)
Forza motorsport 2
Forza motorsport 3
Moto GP (whatever year the latest game came out)
Flatout UC
Split/Second
Test Drive Unlimited
Test Drive unlimited 2

And possibly a 360 racing wheel, either the official one or a madcatz one, both are quite good.
If you can only get a few of those DO NOT miss out on Forza 3 or PGR4, seriously, those games kick so much ass.
And if you DO get forza 3, pony up for the ultimate collection, that adds about another 120 hours worth of new and original fun to be had with the game, Turn 10 are the greatest at racing games, tons of customisability packed in over the most impressive driving physics in any game, forza is one of those games that should be in any 360 owners collection just for the sheer brilliance of the gameplay.

Other than that, all the exclusives are certainly worth a look when you have the money.

Red Dead Redemption
Vanquish

Those are the only non-pc ones I can think of.

Keep an eye out for LA Noire though; it's the only reason I replaced my 360.

Also, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
That's much better on the PC in my experience, I have it on both. The insane amount of mods on the PC version make you feel like a thief, plus unofficial patches have fixed the game better than Bethesda could.

On topic, I'd recommend GRID, Dirt 2, or Midnight Club: LA. Racing games feel much better on consoles, so do fighting games, so the new Mortal Kombat. Also, Red Dead: Redemption, Alan Wake and LA Noire when it comes out. I can't really think of many Xbox exclusives other than Gears of War and Halo, but they're kinda lackluster.

Why are so many people still recommending Halo when he's already specifically stated he doesn't like it?

Battlefield: Bad Company, the original. The second one was good too, but you can grab it on PC as well, which from your post I'd imagine you want to do. BC1 is console only, and the campaign is just great. Refreshingly light-hearted & humorous, nice integration of vehicles into gameplay (though not as good as Halo IMO), big open levels which give you loads of options and huge replay value (as opposed to certain other modern war shooters, which pile on the set pieces until they resemble movies) and nice production values e.g graphics, sound. I should warn you, though: a) the control system is somewhat unorthodox (e.g RB to switch weapon) and b) so is the health system (technically, health doesn't regenerate, but you have an irreplaceable piece of equipment which instantly heals all your health if you use it - and the recharge time isn't too long).

I had loads of fun with it, and while it might be short, I've already harped on about its replay value. Plus, I suspect at least some people out there still play the multiplayer, rather than BC2's.

Also the Fable games, Fable III wasn't brilliant and was a disappointment but Fable II was quite good and I don't think you can get that on PC.

I'd say Halo but I've still yet to actually play any of that series...one day.
I'm sorry you got that wrong, Fable II was awful and a disappointment, and Fable III was quite good

Mass Effect and then Mass Effect and its attendant DLC if you're a Bioware fan. Some of their finest work to date.
Also, I really can't recommend Alan Wake more if you like atmosphere and a real plot driven game.

Also, I really can't recommend Alan Wake enough- one of the best story driven games I've played.
Also, fighting off hordes of enemies while on a rock festival stage is hilarious fun. Get it if you like dark atmospheres.

Also, check out Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, but start with 2.
The first AC game was good, but AC2 really showed that the game series had potential as well as fixing all the annoying bugs of the first.

Also, Red Dead Redemption, if you haven't played it yet.
One of the finest games I've ever played.

Tales of Vesperia: Best JRPG on the console. Just a wonderful game all around. It's like a retro JRPG with beautiful graphics and fun, realtime combat. Has some surprisingly dark moments too.

Agreed. I would also Recomend The Last Remenant but i believe its on pc not sure though and Castlevania Lords of Shadow

Dead Rising for sure.
Dead or Alive 4

Those are some exclusives that are pretty good IMO. I don't know what genres you like, but if you want RPGs and the like I can give you some more.
You have excellent taste here.

As for the first poster. I like fighters personally. Consoles are far and away a better place for those than the PC, but many fighters will not be for everyone and I can admit that. If you like them too though I'd also recommend you Soul Calibur or Blazblue: Continuum Shift.

seeing as most people didnt read the post about you not wanting games that you can get on PC

i will suggest Saint Row (first one), you can get the second on PC but not the first

its one of my all time favs and is cheap as chips now, but to be safe, read some reviews so you can formulate your own opinion

Eh, you like TF2 but can't stand Halo? If you're gonna try out the 360 and like TF2 then there really isn't too much reason why Halo shouldn't be up your alley when it comes to shooters.
