Ugh I hate it when people Shout, Clap, Cheer, Yodel infact make any noise beyond laughing at a funny part when watching films.

I think it ruins the expereance.
Yeah same here. Especially the people that yell out comments and stuff.
I'm actually guilty of doing that once, but only 'cause the cinema was empty (and I mean empty, it was just us and some teenagers at the back :l).

OT: Anyways, I haven't seen the last 2 Harry Potter films, and I don't plan to unless other people want to go. I'm not as big a fan of the movies as I am of the books.
Likewise,
My mothers terrible for it though,

Mother:They're not gonna kill it are they!?
M: *very lour laughing* THAT WAS A GOOD ONE!
Again: Run run! RUN! MAKE IT! MAKEIT! MAKEITMAKITMAKIT! ooh that was scary/tense.

Honestly can't take hewr anywhere.

They were loud alright, every time they cheered they overpowered the dialogue which I hated.
Ugh, that happens with like every movie I ever see. It is certainly a pain in the ass.
The loudest people there were a group if 14 year old girls, sitting right in front of me. I think there should be separate theater for 14 year old girls. I swear, they ruin everything.

Maybe they didn't want to waste 700 pages of their time reading a children's book and felt watching the movie was adequate?
omg you didnt just say that. take it back. harry potter is not a childrens book. TAKE IT BACK NOW!
NEVAH!

I concur, Harry Potter is not a childrens book. It's a book for everybody. Children, adults, and elderly people. I grew up reading those books. And I'm pretty sure a childrens book doesn't have people dying left and right like in the last HP book.
How old were you when you read your first Harry Potter book? Think about that, and realize that I am right.

Besides, have you heard of Grimm's Fairy Tales? Or any Fairy Tales? I can't recall a single children's fable that I was told as a kid that didn't involve some form of violent death.

For the same reason girls scream and swoon at twilight movie showings - fan(boy/girl)ism

And I'm still amazed at how little people have an issue with having to buy two tickets to see one movie because "it's too long a book"

That's nothing. Somebody brought a heavily mentally disabled person to my showing of The Dark Night.

Needless to say, he freaked out.

I was thinking "Why are you even here??"
Here is an clue: TO WATCH A MOVIE.

Cinemas are for the whole people experience. If you are bothered because the cinema will have people that don't "get" Harry Potter at the level that you do, wait for the DVD to see it in the peace and loneliness of your bedroom, while you compare notes with the book.

Seriously, how self-centered are you to assume if you read a book before watching a movie, everyone has to. This is not so relevant to the public... its Harry Potter. For many people, 2 or 3 hours a year is enough time to dedicate to that series.

In fact, since you are so elitist about people on a cinema, clarify this: I don't see the point of going to a movie after I had read and enjoyed a book, you already know all the plot and twists, and the imagination of the director will hardly match your own.

Just to clarify about HP being a "700 page kids book" he's right on some level because the beginning books in the series were actually meant for kids. That's where his silver lining of truth ends because the latter part of the series is for when the kids actually grew up ( The incremental periods between book releases ) and to say that the whole series is just a kids book shows a lack of understanding. The last few books use more educated words, death, and a larger and more complex range of emotions to make the reader expand their mental scope. I was a wee lad reading the first book and when i read the last one i was in my last year of school...phenomenal books with a lot of depth to be had by all.

When I'm at a movie theater watching something like this that i grew up on I'd be glorified if i could hear a damn pin drop amongst the audience. I went to see the Wolverine movie and i had to sit though girls muffled cries of ecstasy....I really wish I could have turned around and snapped their necks like chicken bones ( I'm too nice a guy to ever do such a thing though! ) what i did do though was move closer to the big screen. Remembering that horrid experience ill wait a few days when there aren't as many dumbfounded idiots around to ruin my movie experience.

Great movie by the way, but I swear some people in my theater needed to get smacked. They all acted like they never read the book! On certain parts that were in the book that everyone should know about they acted like they weren't expecting it. I was like why are you clapping and cheering? You should know that this happens!!!!
Clapping and cheering? In response to the events in the film? Why would you cheer at a screen? Is this an American thing? I'd think it was because the fans were young and over-excited, but other posters make it sound as if this is something that happens often in cinemas.

Over here people will chuckle at a funny part, but they generally remain silent. If they're absolute dicks they might whisper stupid comments to their friends or have their own conversations, but I've only once had a film ruined due to a bunch of teenagers who wouldn't shut up.

When I saw the Dark Knight in theaters I had two 14 year old girls sitting next to me. Guess what they did when the Joker made that video, or when that guy fell into the window dressed as batman? That's right they screamed. Really loudly. In my ear.

Sometimes, these things happen.

I rarely go to the movies, but the few times I went there this has happened. But it was at the END of the movies I went to (Incredible Hulk and Avatar) not in the middle. One of my friends said that people cheered during The Dark Knight when Batman did that thing with the motorcycle right after flipping the truck.

Yeah I just recently read all the books and I can't see why someone would want to watch the movie first cause a lot of it wouldn't make sense. During the first 5 films the directors didn't know how it would end so they left out a lot of things that are important to the ending like the mirror that Serious gave him, the house he inherited, Ginny hid his potions book in the movie so how will find the tiara? Most importantly Dumbledore didn't tell Harry what he thought the remaining horcruxes are. I don't how he's going to just guess.

Well...i dont mind some cheering on occasion. I find that seing a movie in a theatre can be a nice social experience. If you´re expecting total silence, you better wait for the DVD. Of course if people are clapping and cheering the ENTIRE movie, i guess i´d be bothered.

I find that extremely odd. You applaud people to show respect and appreciation, usually after some sort of live performance. I don't see why you would clap/cheer at a movie theatre. The people who were actually responsible for the film aren't going to hear you.

Um... there are people who like the films but haven't read the books.

I'm one of those people.

Is that such a bad thing?

Most of those people probably didn't read the book. Don't you know how uncool it is to read books? I'm probably going to see the movie today in the morning when most of the mouth-breathers will be in school...I assume...

In all seriousness though, that's part of the fun of midnight openings: being a loud prick around strangers. I was dragged to the midnight New Moon. As the movie opened I loudly pointed out that the image on screen was clearly a crescent moon (which earned more laughter than I expected). I also (normally) ask the audience at large who wants to hold my camcorder. Those having nothing to do with the plot though...just me being a loud dick and being the one to type the proverbial 'FIRST' on that forum...film...opening.

Hey, when did part 1 end? Did it end at Shell Cottage after Malfoy Manor? That's my guess...I'll have found out before sunset but still...I'm not leaving for a few hours...I wanna know!

I didn't read the books. I stopped after the fourth - wasn't a huge fan if I'm honest. Still, I enjoy the films...

And don't go thinking I'm some sort of "BOOKS R 4 SQUARES LUL"....because I'm not...I'm doing an English degree, I just disliked Harry Potter.

JK Rowling didn't originally have a certain age group in mind, but the publishers marketed it towards children aged between eight and eleven. Now it's not really a children's book, because the audience grew up with it and the story has become much more darker.

OT: Some people are just excitable and need to release it somehow... They don't stick to the book much, I always thought.
