Ugh I hate it when people Shout, Clap, Cheer, Yodel infact make any noise beyond laughing at a funny part when watching films.

I think it ruins the expereance.
I think that's the whole point of the experience. I think it contribute a lot to the atmosphere of the theater. I'm not talking about those that use their phones or talk to each other while watching, I'm talking about those that react to the movie.

If you want to relax and be alone and quiet, the couch in your living room is probably a better place for that than the theater.

My best theater experience was seeing Godzilla: Total Wars at Fantasia with everyone cheering and laughing at key points.

Clapping and cheering? In response to the events in the film? Why would you cheer at a screen? Is this an American thing? I'd think it was because the fans were young and over-excited, but other posters make it sound as if this is something that happens often in cinemas.

Over here people will chuckle at a funny part, but they generally remain silent. If they're absolute dicks they might whisper stupid comments to their friends or have their own conversations, but I've only once had a film ruined due to a bunch of teenagers who wouldn't shut up.
I'd say it most definately is an American thing. I've been to the cinema in America twice and both times the audience cheered/clapped at the start and end of the film, aswell as certain parts in the film itself. Not only clapping and cheering, people randomly shouted at the screen, or made annoying jokes which got a chuckle out of the guys mates.

Compare that to an British cinema. I usually go to late night showings (11pm+) due to it being quieter, free to park and so on. The only downside is that late showings are the ones where the drunken chav gangs congregate. Despite that, they still watch the film quietly, they may whisper to each other but it's not enough to annoy me or anyone else.

I think we have a better attitude when going to the cinema than the general American audience.

So many haven't read the books. It's surprising. The kids I used to babysit for example, they followed the movies and had them on DVD. I nabbed their copy of Deathly Hallows 'cause I hadn't read it, their parents let me borrow it. I was shocked to find out that neither of the boys had read any Harry Potter - the books had been bought and read by their folks.

I wasn't even sure the movies worked without the books, so much is rushed through. Maybe if you hadn't read them their easier to accept but when viewed after reading the books they seem jumpy and cheap. To their credit they've been getting better though aside from maybe the fourth one which I couldn't follow despite reading the book.

Most of those people probably didn't read the book. Don't you know how uncool it is to read books? I'm probably going to see the movie today in the morning when most of the mouth-breathers will be in school...I assume...

In all seriousness though, that's part of the fun of midnight openings: being a loud prick around strangers. I was dragged to the midnight New Moon. As the movie opened I loudly pointed out that the image on screen was clearly a crescent moon (which earned more laughter than I expected). I also (normally) ask the audience at large who wants to hold my camcorder. Those having nothing to do with the plot though...just me being a loud dick and being the one to type the proverbial 'FIRST' on that forum...film...opening.

Hey, when did part 1 end? Did it end at Shell Cottage after Malfoy Manor? That's my guess...I'll have found out before sunset but still...I'm not leaving for a few hours...I wanna know!
It ended right after Voldemort took the elder wand from Dumbledore's tomb

At least it's almost 2 and a half hours. I would hate for them to split it into two movies, only to have each movie be an hour and a half.

Odds are I'll watch this one when it comes out on Movie Network.

Great movie by the way, but I swear some people in my theater needed to get smacked. They all acted like they never read the book! On certain parts that were in the book that everyone should know about they acted like they weren't expecting it. I was like why are you clapping and cheering? You should know that this happens!!!!
There is absolutely no way my parents would ever read Harry Potter. It's a kid's book series, after all, and they don't read much anyway. And very few people I know read regularly, although to be fair most people I know my age have read the books anyway. But yeah, plenty of people haven't read the books.

However, my parents have also seen every one of the films so far. The first one came out when I was a kid (I'm 20 now) and my parents took me and my younger brother to see it as a treat. And they actually enjoyed it - they weren't massive fans, fine, but nevertheless they thought it was a good film. And since then I've seen every film in the series with my parents and brother, until now. I'm going to see The Deathly Hallow Part 1 tonight (my family live in a different city to me now), and I dare say they will soon too. But the point is, my parents enjoyed all the films to some extent without having read the books. And they aren't the only ones. There are countless people out there who've never read the books yet enjoy the films. Mostly adults, as a matter of fact.

So yeah, long story short, reading the Harry Potter books is not a prerequisite to seeing the films. And so most people watching the films won't know much of what happens in the books anyway...

I have watched all HP movies multiple times and never have ever touched a book. (My mother however has and read them all multiple times)

Going to watch Deathly Hallows this Saturday or next weekend it looks good so far.
