I know those days and those showers too.
I recommend running till you drop to your knees from pure exhaustion. You'll forget about your little self-comforting...till you hit the shower that is, but by then your either to tired to get distracted or care at all.

I've only drifted off when I wasn't really into it, just releasing daily tension. After a day like that, I'd have just taken a shower. The practiced, familiar motions of bathing allow me to step out of my brain like nothing else can, and I always feel refreshed and calm after a nice shower. The effect increases every month or two when I take my trimmers to my hair and buzz my head. I always feel like I'm cutting the insanity off of my head when I'm cutting my hair.
