I just have to admit it- I am the steriotypical female gamer. But who cares?

I'm not a girl and I like sidescrollers. Donkey Kong Country is one of my all time favorite games.
I only played DDR once and it was on a broken machine in Seattle! That thing was broken because I do not suck that bad! I got the second highest score on the arm wrestling machine.

Dude, me too! I never get the idea that "you are only worthwhile as a human if you can beat every game on hard mode."

Anyway, no, you are certainly not the stereotype. In the (few) MMOs I've played, I prefer to be a healer.
I always start a game on Easy. There's something refreshing about knowing that if you can do that, you most certainly can do the next bit. It's something your brain has to teach your fingers when you're playing Guitar Hero xD

I lost my disc to that a while ago, along with my precious Halo and Morrowind, among others...
I'm left with only KOTOR in terms of Xbox games, but I have a bit of a vendetta agianst Bioware as of now...

Of course, the Sims never worked for me, for some reason. But I got bored with that... I prefered Transformers over barbies as a child.
Morrowind is amazing. My favorite of Bethesda's work.

And why the vendetta against Bioware? o0 *is addicted to Morrowind right now*

The only thing I dislike about female gamers is the ones with GGS(Girl-Gamer Syndrome). You know them, they flaunt the fact they are female and gamers and make it blatantly obvious, as if the only reason they play games is the fact that they are a girl, and therefore a 'rarity' in gaming. These girls are annoying because they do exactly what I just said. They do not stop blathering about the fact that they are girls and gamers at the same fucking time...To anyone with GGS.

I'm a 20 year old male, and I play DDR. I've got a 32 year old male friend who also plays DDR. Bad example!

Also, no you're not being a hypocrite. Just because you feel that you are the stereotype doesn't mean you cannot protest it.
After watching the competitive gaming show on G4, and how they were saying that it was alright for both teams to have failed epically on a really easy DDR song because, "Guys don't play DDR," I have to say that your breed is considered as non-existent as my own according to gaming idiots.
Wow, DDR is one of the few games most guys here actually play.

Who cares? Most likely nobody, to tell you the truth. Making a topic about it might get some people interested, but it's kind of unneccesary. Most people on here do not know each other, so I wouldn't see why it would matter what kind of gamer you are. Go on living your life.

There is nothing wrong with fitting stereotype. Stereotyping people and boxing them into the specific stereotype that is wrong, and seems to be very common.
Also I do like alot of stereotypical games, however I also like games like tf2 and cod4, so its easy to find correlations to stereotypes, but there usually is more to the story.
As for abuse in game, I don't talk and I am usually quite happy just quietly doing my own thing so nobody ussually knows I am a girl. When people find out for some reason I have had a couple of abusive people, a fair few shocked people, but mostly they are like "kool" and throw a grenade in my face :p
As far as difficulty goes, I always start on hard because I love a challenge, but really its personal preference, games are for fun and relaxation, do what you like and screw anyone who says your less worthy for it.
Also DDR is excellent fun :D
Edit: Mookie_Magnus I completely agree with the GGS people, they tend to be up there on my gun for list, can be very annoying.

I've encountered this sort of thing before- some girl is all 'oh c'mon guuuuuuys, don't shoot me. I am a lady'. And expect the rest of the players to fawn all over her.
And you do just think- I have breasts too. They're not that awesome. Maybe if you spent longer playing than flirting ingame you wouldn't suck so much.

you actually don't sound too stereotypical to me. I am 30 year old male and fit a lot of those same traits you have. I play most fps games for the single player experience because honestly online gaming is not that fun for me not because of the game but because of the people that usually play these games. I'm sure I can be as good as anyone on halo 3, but I would rather not watste my life away with a lot of those people. To me a stereotypical girl is one that plays games that really don't test your reflexes or are intense, it really doesn't matter what you make your character wear and honestly being a good healer is about as intense as taking headshots any day, you'd be surprised how many guys always choose the female character so don't be too down on yourself ou're not as much as a stereotype as you think. Now a white 13 year old from little rock with a gamertag like "shoot_ya_gangsta" that constantly uses the N-word and cusses on live cause his mom's not home, that's a stereotype.

I think my problem is that I do get very frustrated with team members, to the point that teamchat is just not working xD so am usually one of the more mic-friendly players in any given game. It's lovely to hear another female voice once in a while.

Ingame chat up lines are so embarrassing, though I've only had something like that a few times. Mate, you're playing a huge bruiser with a bald head and a minigun. It is not a good judge of character. Just let me heal you and stop trying to pull in Team Fortress.

Is there such a thing as a stereotypical female gamer? I don't know.

I must say I take my hat off to female Halo deathmatch players. Not only are they a rare breed, but they make a refreshing change from the jerkweed, testosterone-fest that it sometimes degenerates into.

I don't play DDR, but I do like to just feel the rhythm and let loose...I also don't have any room for the dance mat. That, and nothing on the soundtrack lists for those games ever sparks my interest. Any game that uses music heavily needs a good soundtrack, and since music is all taste, that means that its very easy to piss people off merely by saying that you don't listen to a certain station in the GTA games. CSR 103.9...You completed me!

But really, I can't stand "pro" gamers or ultra-competitive dickheads. I've been playing games for about 16 years and have and will ALWAYS play for fun, like it sounds you're doing Erana. Don't stereotype yourself! Just enjoy what you enjoy.

Oh, you can't stand the people who always blame every death on a glitch or lag, either? And who can't dare play for fun?

To everyone reading this:
Have fun, and play what you like. Unless you happen to like "________ 1/2/3/4/5/infinity", in which case, I hate you.

I honestly didn't even though there was a such thing as a "stereotypical gamer girl" or even a stereotypical gamer for that matter. Also, what is wrong with DDR? I am horrible at it but I still find it fun, as does my one friend who is insane at it and enjoys it just as much as he does Halo 3 or COD 4.

If you don't know me, I fit the bill for the steriotypical female gamer.
I like girly outfits for my character, I always play the healer, I love the brightly colored, child-friendly sidescrollers. I like DDR. I (moderately, and excluding "Pix Plz") like to get attention for being female on the internet. I oogle over how pretty Link is (albeit platonically) and the most incriminating: I am mediocre at games. I can play Halo on Heroic well enough, but I fail epically at multiplayer, and I am cannon fodder with Legendary, to give a sense of scale.

Does this mean that I have failed those who say that girls can be good at video games? Am I being a hypocrite when defending the equality of women in video games? What does this prove? And now that we have established that some people do fit the steriotype, who really cares about it? People talk negatively about it, but I don't see any significant problem.
/rhetorical question montage

I guess the point is, is the steriotype itself really that bad, or is it the fact that it is the box people try to put on people* that is the problem?

*In retrospect, that sounds like a subtle Solid Snake refrence...
If you were a guy you'd probably be just as good with games as you are now. You'd play healers just the same, because Healers are just that awesome (i'm terrible at healing, but I have a lot of respect for the players who can).
And just the fact that you quoted (per se) Snake means you fall way outside of the stereotype. Oh, and I love girly/womanly outfits for my characters as well. I'd rather my caster wore a victorian dress than two strips of cloth that reveal 99% of her skin.

I get mistaken for a guy.

I dress the girls like psychotic barbarians & all the guys are petite & wear flowing robes.

I'm always a tank, always a warrior, & always an elf.

I can play games like Neverwitner Knights or Serious Sam II for up to 11 hours a day for as long as 2 months.

I also read Batman comics, shounen manga, wouldn't be caugth dead in a dress, & casual games can only hold my interest for 10 minutes.
