The sad part is that this is what they are basically saying. "We don't want women complaining to us at the event, we don't want the possibility of a harassment suit, and our main demography is guys so out you go."Sariteiya said:Us pesky women really are the problem, being all harassable and such.
About the dzen times it's been pointed out already. The issue isn't that it's a men only event, the issue is that they combatted the problem of assholes being assholes by banning the people who would take issue with them being assholes. XBL can pretty racist, think they're going to ban black people to avoid them being offended?Stall said:Who cares? This is a private event. The organizers can do whatever they want. They have total and absolute control over who is allowed to attend their event. What? Are people not allowed to CHOOSE who THEY want in a private event? Maybe they are allowed to do that in European countries, but in American countries, people kind of have this right.
Besides, think about what happened if we flipped the gender of this whole incident. Would anyone care? Would anyone think its sexist? Would the OP had made a thread about how the event is perpetuating misandry? To be quite forward, it's sexist that people think men can't have the freedom to form a gender-exclusionary event if they so choose, since if women had done this, people would not care. This entire thread just goes to prove the existence of the tons of double standards that exist in society, and the problems facing men in modern society. It's fucking despicable. Hell, 50 bucks says that if this was a female only event, people would be running around fucking praising how it is "PROGRESSIVE" or some shit; yet when men do it, it's sexist. I hate society sometimes...
That comment caught my eye as well.Xzi said:I'll go ahead and quote one of the comments on the Kotaku page:
"I'd like to point out that no one, more than likely, would raise a fuss if it was an all girls/women event. There's a lot of hypocrisy and double standard in the world of sexism."
There's a lot of truth to this, and the matter of fact is that it's a private function with a reservation fee. They have the right to do what they want.
Now personally, I don't see the point in attending an event such as this if the only people I can mingle with are male. But to each their own.
Calm down before you get a stroke. Nobody, and I repeat, nobody has disputed their right to hold such an event; it's just their reasoning we think is retarded. Which it is--very, very retarded.Stall said:WHO CARES? This is THEIR EVENT. It's not your event, or an event hosted by this website, but THEIR EVENT. THEY get to choose. THEY don't care what you think. The organizers have EVERY SINGLE RIGHT to do this. It doesn't matter what you think of the event, since you are not an organizer of the event, nor are you probably going to attend the event. Stop shoving your beliefs about what is "right" or how this is a "bad depiction of gamers" down these individuals throats, and allow them to exercise their right to make their event exclusionary if they so choose. RESPECT their right to do this.manythings said:About the dzen times it's been pointed out already. GET OVER YOURSELVES PEOPLE. THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT. YOU ARE JUST AS BAD AS THEM FOR NOT RESPECTING THEIR FREEDOM OF SPEECH, AS WELL AS THEIR FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITH THEIR PRIVATE EVENT. IF IT IS AS BAD AND PATHETIC AS YOU THINK IT IS, THEN THE MATURE THING TO DO IS TO RESPECT THEIR RIGHT TO DO IT, AND NOT ***** ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET. THE LATTER IS JUST IMMATURE.
When your own freedom infringes upon someone else's for no good reason, you have forfeited that protection.Stall said:WHO CARES? This is THEIR EVENT. Yeah, this is good too.Giest4life said:Calm down before you get a stroke. Nobody, and I repeat, nobody has disputed their right to hold such an event; it's just their reasoning we think is retarded. Which it is--very, very retarded.
Jesus, you do know that capitalization can be used for emphasis, right?Giest4life said:Nobody, and I repeat, nobody has disputed their right to hold such an event; it's just their reasoning we thing is retarded. Which it is--very, very retarded.
Considering that this is a PRIVATE event, this isn't infringing on anyone else's freedom. If this was a public event, then yes, that statement would be true; but this is a private event, so no rights are infringed by controlling admittance. What? Are you implying that you can sue me for violating your rights for not inviting you to poker night at my house? Step back and think about what you just said about the rights thing. It's a private event. The only rights being infringed here is the party's in question by you, for refusing to respect them wanting to control admittance to this event.MGlBlaze said:When your own freedom infringes upon someone else's for no good reason, you have forfeited that protection.
I know! We should just get back to the kitchen where no one will give us odd looks and make sandwiches!Sariteiya said:Us pesky women really are the problem, being all harassable and such.
The stroke part was a joke....Stall said:Jesus, you do know that capitalization can be used for emphasis, right?Giest4life said:Nobody, and I repeat, nobody has disputed their right to hold such an event; it's just their reasoning we thing is retarded. Which it is--very, very retarded.
Anyways, if you want to be mature about this, then say "I respect their right to do this as well as justify it however we want, but disagree" and leave it at that. Calling these people names and insulting them for wanting to have control over who attends their private event and say whatever they want is downright pathetic. There's nothing TO discuss in this thread, to be honest, since the whole "I respect their right to do what they've done, but disagree" is really the only proper way to reply. Well, by proper I mean mature.
