I like a girl who... (Reads the OP)

I'm forced to quote from Mad Men to make my point:

"You know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear. It's a billboard on the side of the road that screams reassurance that whatever you are doing is okay. You are okay."

The purpose of these threads seems to be reassuring young men that their tastes are approved of at least by the people here. It's some measure of commiseration, as well. If I say "Golly, I'd take any girl who likes me" and I see fifteen other posts saying the same thing, the apparent reality that no girl likes me is more palatable.

There's also a bit of a frat boy mentality here sometimes. It's a pack mentality of boys who were never allowed into the pack. If I put a post of "well, I want a girl who's smart enough to discuss with me the conflict between Cartesian Dualism and Existentialism, ect" it wouldn't garner as much positive response as "yeah, tits are fun." If I'm looking for validation, I want people to actually approve of what I say.

Also, to all of the people who are actually listing attributes they want in a girl: I urge you to read the bloody OP. This isn't (intended) to be a thread about what we like in girls, it's meant to be a thread about the threads that ask that question. Bah, back to the kittens for me.

Hurray to that one, i think no one could have said it better.
Can I at least be an American, smooth talking, tea-drinking, middle-class, pseudo-intellectual?

I do have a fairly stentorian voice, and I can't stand coffee.

Okay, the real question I have here is: Why do male Escapists like talking about what they like in a girl? There are so many threads that turn into this, and I don't get it. I mean, you've got your "I like big boobs", then your "I like a girl who's attractive and likes me", then your "I'll take whatever I can get" and then your three paragraph long one about what colour hair she should have, and past experiences with girls of that hair colour. Is there some thrill in saying these things? I really don't get it. I've taken part in it maybe twice, and I'm not really sure why, but I know I don't feel inclined to say it again at every opportunity I come across.

I don't think the majority of them are sexist, so I want to make sure I'm not misinterpreted that way; I just think they're odd.
It probably has something to do with the fact that if a guy just type "I like girls." he end up at the starting case no matter how attractive he is.

Kinda like the worst square to end up on while playing snake and ladders.

Well, excuse me! I AM a British, smooth talking, tea-drinking, aristocrat! You know, death to colonial scum and all that. :D
Seriously, I am British, and proud.

I have posted on a 'what kinda gal fo you look for?' thread and I think that the psychology behind it is exactly the same as that behind simmilar discusions that British 'lads' have (phwor! check out that bird, mate! niiiiiice tits luv!), it just helps you fit in (why you would need to do this on a forum is beond me).

One thing which most men are guarenteed to have in common is an interest in women so it provides an area of common ground which in turn makes us feel comfortable and united.

congrats its turned into one of ''those'' threads =D ...i actually think its more worrying that someone made a ''are you single'' or asking about how to talk to ''girls''

.....i really don't know what i think about those threads...probably best i don't say lol

I'm not really sure, but it's probably because some people feel they have weird dislikes and likes, and want confirmation that they're not the only one? That doesn't make the threads any less stupid, though.
That is actually a very good point about some people.

I think people use it as a way of seeing if there is anyone that meets their criteria, almost always failing of course.

Btw, I'm into girls that--

Damn I hate being a 14year old
