not to be disrespectful to the escapist community and to draw heavily on sterotypes I think it's likely to be a group of gaming geeks using every opportunity they can to prove they are a/ into girls b/ could get a girl if they wanted to!

That being said it's equally possible that this site breaks the sterotype of that geeky tragic socially inept pleb who falls over his own achne whenever he see's a girl and that all these people in discussions are experienced, well rounded heterosexuals who have no problem with the 'fairer' sex.

In short I have no answer for you

Those threads have made me quite a few friends, since I'm always pining for some male company... It's not always about lonely little nerd boys, it's lonely little nerd girls too.
Have I flirted with you yet? I get the feeling I have. Your profile says you live in Gloucester so I assume I did, playfully. Whatever happened to that?
Yes you did. If I recall correct I gave a nervous little giggle and that was the last I heard from you. ;}

Okay, the real question I have here is: Why do male Escapists like talking about what they like in a girl? There are so many threads that turn into this, and I don't get it. I mean, you've got your "I like big boobs", then your "I like a girl who's attractive and likes me", then your "I'll take whatever I can get" and then your three paragraph long one about what colour hair she should have, and past experiences with girls of that hair colour. Is there some thrill in saying these things? I really don't get it. I've taken part in it maybe twice, and I'm not really sure why, but I know I don't feel inclined to say it again at every opportunity I come across.
Forums are a place to make friends and bond with a community. One factor of real life male bonding is (surprise surprise) talking about women. It seems only natural then, men will use tactics online that successfully help them build real-world relationships.

You might argue that women also talk about men, maybe even more so! While this can be true, forums are predominantly young and male. The simple fact that there are more young men trying to bond is going to lead to more people posting these sorts of topics.

As a moderator I try to keep the forums from repeating themselves in an endless loop. If you see a thread that has been done recently (within reason, last week for instance) feel free to PM myself or any of the staff, and we'll consider merging the thread with an older one.

I like a girl who...likes me. It doesn't matter too much what she looks like. I'm very easy. Er, that's not an offer, just a statement of fact.

Well that...yeah, that sounds like me actually. Keeps the girls guessing anyway. Have an MSN invite. That'll keep you guessing even more!

It's ridiculous how many threads there are like that in any forum. Regardless of the type of crowd the forum draws in, be they civil war reenactors, gamers, film forums...almost nothing is left untouched by these types of topics. Armitage Shanks pretty much got the types of posters and when they appear in those kinds of topics right, also applies regardless of forum type.

I have to agree with Erana on this one. I'm not a militant feminist, but there have been a lot of threads going on about the phyisical attributes and what is good and what is bad in a woman.
I'm surely in my right to be offended if you just list attributes. I'm not a WoW character with sliders and points in my skills. I'm a real human being, with a working brain, which often seems to be overlooked in the list of requirements. I might have big boobs but that is not my best feature and it's irritating to see men checking things like that off on a list.

I could turn this into a rant but I think I'll leave it there.

Ugh!

I'll have you know, my good sir, that I have dry palms- none of that 'sweaty' business here.

The nerve of some people, hmmph.....

Now, what was I going to say that was supposed to be of value to this thread?

Hmmm....Oh yes, here it is: people discussing what they like in other people is a conversation-starter, a way to break the ice with people, a way to find things in common with others (even if it is rather strange- finding that both you and your best friend tend to go for girls with pronounced cheekbones makes for an uncanny experience). What others have said already, really...

Because Girls are the favourite topic of every Man on the planet (after themselves of course), surely you've noticed this in every day life?

I'd join. You'd get a lot of members if you started it up now too, since valentine's day is coming up and people hate being alone on that day.

I'd join it! It's hard finding nice, reasonably attractive guys who aren't scared of the fact that you like 'nerdy' things! lol
