So I was reading the latest penny Arcade and it was about Chatroulette. They 'made up' this game where you send a feed of an MS paint page as your webcam and 'draw' the other person, either actually drawing them or just messing with them. I was shocked, I've been doing this for months!

No doubt there will be an influx of people doing it and when someone sees me doing it they'll go "Penny arcade?" instantly losing me any cool points I had. Not because its penny arcade(which is cool) but because I'm an unoriginal loser who copies them.

Actually, I'm not really mad, but I'm not going to say "They didn't tell me about the game I was doing it the whole time!" to each person I do it too.

Another thing is when I listen to some J pop song, and suddenly it turns into an anime opening. Like that Naruto: All Grown Up intro, I was listening to it for a while until I learned it was a Naruto theme song. Now every song by the band (nobodyknows) on youtube is littered with "Do another naruto intro!" or "I love this song its so awesum! PS naruto" or sometimes just "Naruto". No coherent sentence, just their most blaring association with the song. "Naruto".

Has this ever happened to you or am I just a stupid elitist?

EDIT 2: Let me be more specific. This isn't about being angry when something gets a lot of fans, its when something popularizes one of your "schticks" and you can't do it without people thinking you copied the other guy. I used to have bad posture and sit on chairs with my feet up much like L form Deathnote, though before the manga existed. Then when I discover this manga I stopped doing that because people were telling me "who do u think u are, L?" making me look like a poser. And if I say "I've been doing this since before Deathnote" I'll just look like a fool with my pants on the ground so I don't bother trying.

Yes. There's nothing worse than a snob. Just because you like something before it's popular doesn't make you better than another person. Granted there are a lot of people who follow trends and it can get annoying to see something you love become adored by people who are just following the trend.

OT: I liked this thread before it was cool.

I liked Owl City before Fireflies.

Actually, I liked Owl City while he only had an EP out.

Happens to me all the time with music because I get sent stuff sometimes months before it's released. However it's usually not the case that I actually like it, so I guess for me it's usually more like "I hated it before it was cool". Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised though - but not often.

You remind me of that guy who, when everyone is talking about a certain band, says "OH I WAS TOTALLY LISTENING TO THAT BAND BEFORE IT WAS POPULAR!"

No one likes that guy.

It has happened to me a few times, but when it got popular I said, "hey, I'm glad that's getting out to people, it's really good." I don't turn into an ass and start ranting about it, no offense

Call of Duty.

That's right, I was right up there on the release day with my dad buying the first call of duty.

Sure, I was merely a tyke, but a tyke that new how to kill nazis since he was 5.

I liked being a snob before it was popular.

OT: It can be a bit annoying if what you love turns into a fad of mindless, shallow followers who drop it after a couple months. Still, I hate when I'm told that by someone as if I'm at fault for discovering, say, a band through a movie or discovering a game or whatever. You've gotta find them somehow.

I don't really have to worry about it much, of course, cause it's rare anything I like turns into a fad.

Have been watching nitro circus since the very first movie nearly 10 years back, when only motoX riders new what i was and you struggled to find anyone who'd ever heard of the nitro circus crew. Now the TV shows out, EVERYONE is their biggest fan!!! You've never even seen a dirt bike in your life!!! RARRRR

The things I like tend to be unpopular in the grand scheme of things, but a lot of my interests were introduced to me by my friends. I think I liked the mercenaries series before it became semi not entirely unpopular. Same with halo.

Haha I don't say it out loud, I'm not like that. But I like it when people except me to be an encyclopedia of certain subjects like video games or history. If some guy saw a commercial with the song and sings only the words in the ad they're just as much a fan as you, which makes all your knowledge seem less.

RESPONSE: So, you liked it when it sucked?

(This was not made to be offensive to you. That just seems to be the proper response to snobbery.)

I played halo before it was released. I'm that much of a fan.
Jealous. I'm like the opposite of what you're describing with Halo in the OP: I still like it even though it's not popular anymore (here, at least(well, that's what it seems like)).
