This sounds a lot like a certain facebook group...
OT: I liked Linkin Park, and Nickleback way before they were popular.

A few years ago, a friend gave me the Plain White Tee's album with "Hey There Delilah" on it, and I liked it, so I listened to it quite a bit. Couple of years later, I heard it come on the radio when I was with a different friend and, without really thinking about it, started to sing along. My friend was amazed that I'd already memorized every single word to the song, seeing as the single had only just been released and hit the charts. He didn't believe me that it had been out for several years already, so I went home and showed it to him on Wikipedia. He was pretty angry.

In response to people saying it sounds snobby, I don't consider myself better just because I heard it prior, but I thought it was pretty hilarious that the country was suddenly going mad over a song that had effectively been out for 2 years already.

I listened to muse since their second album. After twilight there are a lot of cases of inward cringing when muse is mentioned with twilight.

I mean, I'm glad they got success, and the more fans the better, but it's still annoying.

Also Harry Potter, I got a copy of the first book before it actually was released in my country, I got it off my friends mother who worked for a publisher who released it. Then it suddenly got popular 3 or 4 years later. No problems there, but what irritates me is that because it got so popular people no longer valued it as fun. They saw it as a symbol of populist stupidity, entirely avoiding the point that the books were always just simple fun.

Then there is the cases of "I like harry potter! Daniel radcliffe is a great actor!" *facepalm*.

Apart from that - WoW (Ok it was popular since day one, but not HUGELY popular), System of a Down, Tenacious D, Matthew Reilly books, all off the top of my head.

As funny as it sounds, i can't think of anything i liked before it was 'cool'. Probably because most of the things i like have never been 'cool' in quite that manner.

wolves were my favorite animal since day 1 ... now since new moon all these emo kids are claiming they love wolves and some poeple mistake me for a fucking twilight fan when i say i love wolves

i literally know almost everything there is to know about the animal, i have known ever since i was 8 ... WTF!?!? ... i can't fucking wait for "twilight: everyone is a lion now" .. so these fools can move to lions and i'll be happy and not mistaken for an emo twilight fan

in my room i literally have pages and pages of wolf art, i have a pure silver wolf pendant made from one of my designs (not another one in the world like it) .. not to mention a crapload of other stuff

wolves always symbolized wisdom, strength, cunning and always remaining untamed and indipendant ... and now emofags come along ... -_- **sigh** .. i could do this all day so i'll stop now ... also soon i'm gonna get a native indian tribal wolf tattoo that's almost worth a grand in italy but the artist is a friend of my mums (before anyone sais anything .. he's gay ... hah .. derails mum jokes before they even began) so i'm getting it done for free (he took some of my designs and triballed them up) .. and in the traditional native american way .. drunk in a hut with needles, scrapers and ink (wait .. shit, did i just walk into a gay joke now??) .. not too drunk then lol

I was unintentionally pirating music as a child, because I didn't understand what pirating was. o_O that counts, right?

Also, Steampunk. I was obsessed with that stuff before it started being the in-thing! I was cool before cool was cool, dammit!

As much as I hate to be "that guy", I've been tempted to do so many times. Generally it's something like when an old song becomes popular again, and everyone just assumes I'm going with the trend when really I was into that song long before it was "cool".

But as I hold great contempt for people who try so hard to be original that they say they were into it first, I just try to let it slide most of the time, hard as it may be.

Before I'm Yours by Jason Mraz became a big hit, I had a plan to ask a girl out using the song. Then of course it became huge, and I was one good plan down.

I was really into Mraz's older stuff, and his newer more pop-ey sound isn't as good as his older him and a guitar work. Perhaps it's the success. I dunno.

Imogen Heap getting big is a good thing. More power to her!

I saw Dragonforce Live before they became Guitar Hero Popular.

Portal was my Most Wanted Game before the whole cake thing.

I was aware of the (no offense, really, just listen to it) absolute gay-ness of Erasure's "Always" before Robot Unicorn Attack

I liked Equilibrium before people noticed that that movie existed.

And i read the Escapist back when it was pretty much just a magazine on the internet, content and layout-wise, WAAAAAAY before Yahtzee told everyone what to think. (I think it was thanks to one of the guys from Penny Arcade linking the article he wrote here in one of the first issues)

I liked Shinedown before it came heaps popular on the radio and everyone starts asking me... "oh have you heard of Shinedown? I like the song Second Chance!!" Of course you do, its probably the only fucking song you've ever heard. Now that I'm done with my little rant.. yes, I have had that happen to me before.

I don't mind liking something that other people like, but what I hate is when people talk about it all the time like they are fans, when they've only seen one thing on T.V. or the radio and now think they're the worlds best fangirl/boy. Especially when what you loved was obscure, all of the talk just gets annoying.

This is what killed any possibility of me reading Twilight. So many talked about the thing in the end I just went "You know what? You all love it, i'll take it upon myself to hate it. I can't listen to you go on about Edward. Any. Fucking. More.

Devour, Sound of Madness, The Crow & The Butterfly, Call me, 45, Fly From The Inside...

Yeah, the Shinedown thing pissed me off too.

Last Saturday, a friend showed me Superwog on Youtube. It's only today I notice people yelling "WHATAHEAD!" & "Fail whale".
This. My friend showed me Superwog when he was still relatively new and I found it pretty funny. Now every fully hectic killa kid at my school is quoting him all the time. Can be a bit annoying sometimes.

Guitar Hero did this with a few good tracks. I'm all for the bands getting popularity, as I play the same style of music, and that means that maybe some day someone will show up in our gigs.

I don't tend to go "omg I r teh old skool" when these things happen. I remember a few dudes back in the early 2000's, who stopped listening to System of a Down, because it became so popular.
What nob-ends.

I actually had a very surreal experience with this. My now ex-girlfriend was a huge music snob and she introduced me to Kings of Leons, like, a week before Sex On Fire got put onto the radio and played to death. So basically, my experience with this phenomina went as such: never heard of this before!, hmm, i like it!, hey, it's on the radio!, STOP FUCKING PLAYING BE SOMEBODY ARGHHHH.
2 Weeks!
