Here's a story for anyone interested.

My girlfriend was borrowing my sweater yesterday during school and she put her iPod Nano in one of the pockets. She never told me that it was there when she gave the sweater back to me and I went home wearing it.
I come back to school today wearing the same sweater and she reaches into my pockets. She tells me that her iPod is gone when I had no clue that it was in there in the first place. I frantically looked and asked around anywhere it could've been, but no luck.
Now I feel like I'm a horrible person and I'm responsible for it going missing. She told me it was okay, but then I felt even worse....

So, my question is: AM I really a horrible person and AM I responsible for its disappearance?

Technically, No.

To her, You'll probably have to replace it or make it up to her and yes it is your fault.

Well she doesn't seem to mind that much, so I don't see why you're freaking out that much.

Yeah, you're semi-responsible for the disappearance, but that doesn't make you a horrible person. I mean, she's mostly to blame for it, if anything.

While you may be a horrible person, (after all, who wears sweaters in March? It's March!) you are not responsible for the Nano's disappearance. How can you be responsible for something you didn't know existed?

50% Both at fault for not paying attention. It's like my brother, who left his iPod in his backpack and thought his friend was watching it. Turns out he wasn't and the next day it was gone. Again they both screwed up. So that is my ruling.

No, its not your fault at all.

Though, me being the guy who can't steal a pencil or lie on something so simple without feeling bad, I would buy her a new one.

What. WHAT.

Boy what you on about?

Mo it's not your fault, you're mad brah, MAD.

Seriously though, no, it isn't your fault. Don't be so self-depreciating.
Yeah. For a first post, I already made myself sound like I'm self loathing.

Double post.
I blame March.
Leave March alone alright? Shit.

Ontopic: It's not your fault really but don't you think you're overreacting? She sounds pretty forgiving considering she just lost an Ipod.

You should have told me that before i got yelled at. They gave me a probation for going too close. Almost confused it for the toilet.

My failed attempt at humor aside, no you are not a bad person. It's not like you knew it was in your pocket, and that you lost it on purpose, but yah you'll probably have to replace it.

You are on the wrong track entirely. You should be asking "should I accept that I am a horrible person even though I'm not, take responsibility for losing an iPod that I didn't lose, and replace it even though I had only a pedestrian involvement with its loss?

The answer is- if you plan on ever hearing the end of it, then yes.
