Heard bad things. Is it more in-line with what I'm looking for than Deus Ex 1 or something?

Well yeah. That's why everyone hated it.

Sounds good to me.

A lot of people like Secret of Mana more than Legend, and Morrowind more than Oblivion. And I just shrug at them.

Because they weren't always about big far-reaching choices and dialogue trees.

They used to be the only real games with depth in the days of plot-light platformers.

And now, they are making action games, slapping on dialogue trees and moral choices, and calling them RPGs.

Sorry. My anger at Mass Effect 2 winning RPG of the Year from everything is showing.

I realized part-way through cleaning the george foreman that you clearly meant the fake-RPGs. So please disregard that comment.

However, I still recommend Disgaea.

Demon's souls. Good versatility with character builds, straight-forward plot, stages are linear but you can do them in any order.

Great challenge and atmosphere. The main draw is playing with character builds, and if you are confident you can use them for pvp.

It's a love it or hate it game, but it gets more love than hate. Probably exactly the type of game you're looking for, TC

First time I cried at a game, though.

it was such a shock!

If you have a 360 or ps3 i would recommend Tales Of Vesperia by the way, i put over 100 hours into that in a week, and it has a *somewhat* interesting skill system. And the combat is nice compared to turn-based, but a little repetitive. Also like the characters and all the unlockables (Alternate Costumes FTW)

but ignore me, I'm a JRPG fanboy kinda guy.

Check my edit on that post, it's an excellent game. Sure there's lots of talking between characters, but it's all easily skippable and you never really choose what to say. It's more like a text based cutscene.

Loved that too. Direct control over any character made it very interesting.

I switched to Judith once I got her and abused her juggling ways and never looked back.

And the skill system added a lot of customization to your characters...

Difficulty curve was NASTY, though.

I'd order it on the PSN. I have my copy on PSP. "Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days". It comes with Axel mode (A completely seperate story!) and more features. Check it out.

The grill is fantastic, too. Cooks food nicely. Easy to clean and healthier, too! Check it out as well.

EDIT: Try Front Mission 3. It's a Turn-Based Tactical mech game and there's only 2 choices that determine the way the game goes. One at the very beginning, one a third of the way through.

They just added it to the NA PSN store a few weeks back. Heard great things.

Anyways, if you ever do upgrade your PC, I say definitely get The Witcher. Other then that, I've got nothing.

Other then that, the only games that come to mind are games from the last generation and beyond. Mainly some more Bioware games(KOTOR, Jade Empire), a dreamcast game(Grandia 2), and a PS1 game(Legend of Dragoon).

Not sure how easy it would be to get those games though, but thats all I got :/

Resonance of Fate was pretty original. Not to sure about the depth of customization though. Just a lot of guns and adding ridiculous shit to them to be more powerful. Lots of different outfits though and a hellacious learning curve. One of the more unique RPGs I've ever played that's for sure.

Hella learning curve is right.

Took me forever to get past the Power Plant level in the beginning.

Totally gave up at escorting the statue a few hours later.

Dark Hero Days for PSP (without DLC) is... I think $20. Amazon sells it for $40. The cheapest I've seen it in used stores is $20. You can also download two characters for free for it. (Sapphire and Plenair)

Wait, have you tried Phantasy Star Online? Thats a pretty fun game. Although it has little in the ways of story and dialog... so you might not like it.

Also, why the fuck don't more games use Grandia 2's turn-based combat style? Its so fucking amazing, I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone try to copy it, or at least take it and improve upon it.
