Yeah you heard me.

I've seen some dislike on the mako, and it confuses me. It's pretty easy to use, it has weapons, it has booster jets on the bottom (I've dodged many a rocket thanks to those.) and all in all, with some exceptions to corners and backing up into objects with negative slopes, I've never had a problem.

So I guess I'm asking you guys, "Why did you dislike/like the Mako"

[sub]In case you can't tell, the Mako is the car in Mass Effect 1, from which they sadly got rid of in Mass Effect 2.[/sub]

[HEADING=1]ALSO! PLEASE NOTE![/HEADING]

For everyone that's asking, the Mako is replaced by a scanning minigame, and then a "Coordinate" is found, from which a shuttle launches from the ship and flies down. From which you then explore on foot.

Essentially killing the open world areas you could explore.

Omg where to begin.

1. It only handles well if you're facing in the direction you are also driving. Heaven forbid you attempt to turn around in tight quarters (For instance, the ExoGeni Approach on Feros). Unless you are driving forward and facing in the direction you are driving, the Mako handles terribly.

2. The jump boosters are useless and combat was terrible.

An easier way to avoid rockets then boost jumping over them? All the enemies aim at the very tippy tip of the front end of the mako. By standing still, and reversing about a quarter inch, you dodge any incoming fire without any need for timing or tricks. This boils mako combat down to:

pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew move on to next fight pewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew shift backwards pew pew pew shift backwards....
3. Exploring planets in the mako was not any fun, whatsoever. At best, it was boring: driving over flat, textured and mundane surfaces to complete collection quests so you can get one more check mark in your journal. Or, it was annoying: you spent your time driving up cliff faces at 2 mph, only to see the ramp you were "supposed" to use 10 feet to your left. At worst, however, it was absolutely infuriating. I believe Nodacrux is the planet where you are lured into a valley by a mineral deposit, and THERE ARE ZERO SCALABLE CLIFF FACES OUT OF THE VALLEY. You must return to the Normandy and re-land on the planet if you want to continue exploring.

4. Driving sections were unnecessary. Almost every driving sequence in the game could have been replaced with a walking/running and fighting sequence, and the game wouldn't have suffered at all. What's the point in using the Mako on Noveria? Is the experience that much more enhanced then if we fought our way on foot to Peak 15?

5. The guns did some retarded shit. I would absolutely hate it when my machine gun would push some guy over a cliff for no reason, and then I would have to travel to the bottom of the ravine to finish him off.

----
The only thing the Mako did that was fun was send enemies flying. I love, love, love to finish enemies off by Mako punting them hundreds of yards.

Aha! There is a difference. It's a stupid Mass Effect ONE thread not two.

None of those seemed to come to my attention, but alas it is duely noted.

So I guess you just /threaded this.

No point in further discussion.

I didn't hate the Mako. I didn't like it either.
It was useful for getting places quickly and taking down big targets.

Not at all.
To be honest, I didn't think there was a single person in the world who actually liked the Mako. Because you apparently did, I believe the thread should be open and discussed more...

What if there are... more mako fans out there? Weird.

You know I was wondering if they got rid of it; and they did. So that just leaves alot of on foot combat which I'm happy for.

The Mako handled like an elderly man trying to ride a unicycle and masturbate at the same time... not to say it had its moments of fun. I am more glad than sad that it does not exist in ME2.

I liked the Mako, it made exploring fun and made it more atmosphere (even if there was lack of it!). I didnt know they removed it in ME2, this makes me sad =[

I hated it, because it is TOO cheap. Almost nothing, short of a completely vertical rise can stop the thing, it can fall hundreds of meters without taking any damage, and its rocket boosters fire for about one second before they need to cool off, or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, it was fun, in a gravity-defying way.

Well I best say WHY I liked the mako, in more detail.

1) I Suck at car games, and as such in the Mako there was no noticeable decrease in driving ability, hell a slight increase if anything.

2) I liked exploring the worlds. Whether it was driving to a pirate base, over cool environments, and then popping out of the car, shooting a couple times at the enemies below all while using the car as cover. Or maybe just driving around the base guns blazing Essentially a sci-fi drive by.

3) The jump jets were helpful on some of the missions (like noveria and feros) when you're driving down a straight and narrow road, rockets and glowing balls of doom flying at you. There was a small feeling of triumph when I was able to jump over a missle then fire my own cannon back in mid air. Also, the jump jets were fun when I squashed a geth guy, or in close combat landing those giant geth walker things (Name escapes me) and hopping around it.

4) Rarely did I ever have it glitch out, and when it did, it was spectacular and cool. Nothing says awesome like being flung from one end of a huge map to another! (Admittedly, this has only happened once, but I've had 3 other normal oddities occur as well.)

5) On the last planet you visit before the finale where...
You race down the valley towards the conduit, taking dammage but still moving fast with the music going. Man that was awesome.

6) Little side note, I'd prefer the car over walking 30 km. Any day. Also, The car let you explore the large worlds, and give you an idea to how MASSive it is. It just has a positive EFFECT on me that's all.

7) Driving was simple and easy for me. I could aim and drive with no problems at all.

I don't mind it. It's not the Mako's fault that the non-plot planets were bland.

Basically what this guy said. But I want to further elaborate on just how fucking useless the Mako's boosters are.

You can't dodge rockets with them. At close range the boosters don't activate quick enough for you to dodge them. At long range you might as well move slightly to the side and avoid it completley.

So the boosters never help you in combat. And outside of combat, activating them will just make your life a nightmare. I believe the Codex says something along the lines of "The Mako's boosters are designed to help the driver navigate difficult terrain". Well that's the exact opposite of what they do. If you activate the Mako's boosters on a cliff, you will be propelled off of it into the pit you're trying to drive out of. It never helps you get up cliffs. The only cliff you could get onto with it is one that is about 5 feet high, and in that case you could just drive up it. So many problems with this game would have been solved if the Mako had a speed boost instead of a jump boost.

I get the feeling that the people who designed the Mako never talked to the people who designed the levels. The Mako would actually be fine in open areas with small hills, but instead you're almost always on a narrow path or trying to navigate jagged rock junction. It just wasn't built for this crap.

Also I think I know what pit you are talking about. I actually managed to get out of it. It wastes a ton of time and you need to temporairly go out of the map, but it's possible.

Is it really so fucking shocking that people want to talk about a popular game prior to the release of it's sequel?

Get over yourself.

I disliked it because:
It didn't advance with the player. My weapon damage would increase, my biotics would become more tactical as I learnt the right time to use them and my tech would become more powerful. The enemies leveled at the same rate. The Mako... Did not. It'd be using the same pea shooter of a cannon that it had at level one, so my pistol would do more damage per shot.
It handled terribly for turning/reversing.
It took FAR too long for the shields to recharge, slowing down combat as I hid behind a hill.
It justified the existence of obnoxiously large, empty maps with the occasional godless thraesher maw.
The thrusters only helped when I needed to get out of a ditch... A ditch which I wouldn't be in if it handled better.
