I have recently been having a lot of fun with Dynasty Warriors online. It is just like all the Dynasty Warrior games on the consoles, but you make your own guy, can acquire and use any of the weapons that have ever existed in the Dynasty Warriors franchise. It is completely free, and so far a lot of fun.

I need a new MMO. i used to play runescape, but now i want something different. it needs to be free, FUN, low system requirements, and easy for my friends to join in.

while we're here whats your favorite MMO?

EDIT- my laptop can barely run runescape on high graphics
runes of magic is a good wow clone, and in some ways is a better wow clone than wow

Ultima Online is free to play I think. They might be unofficial servers though, EA might be still charging for theirs because they're massive cunts. Other than that, there's MU Online and KAL Online, I used to play both ages ago and they were decent. I'd recommend just paying for one, pay to win MMO's suck.

Dungeons and Dragons Online by far and it´s free
While it's free, it's what I like to call "Turbine Free", meaning that while a bit of the game is free, you HAVE to pay to enjoy it fully.

Kinda sucks IMO.

I hate to break it to ya, Butttt if you can barly run runescape on high...you will have MAJOR problems running everything else. But I guess Global Agenda, League of Legends is free, not really an mmo but still easy to get into. Champions Online Most are free to play now.

Dungeon Fighter Online is one of my favorites.
I greatly recommend DFO, though I'll say that you probably want to play with a controller for the "real" experience. Mouse and keyboard just feels... wrong.

My other recommendation, if your computer can handle it, is Champions Online.

League of Legends also has gameplay somewhat similar to MMO PvP, while being free to play (though you'll likely need to drop a few bucks just to get a good stable of champions to pick from unless you have ludicrous amounts of free time) and the bonus with this one is that a core part of their design philosophy is to never sell power. So someone who hasn't paid a dime is on an even playing-field with someone who dropped cash.

I suggest either Vindictus or Mabinogi.
Vindictus is a little higher spec so it may or may not run on your computer.
Mabi is pretty low spec, lots of fun and it has lots to do so you don't get stuck with the whole "kill x number of monsters or gather x number of items, thats all you can do" problem of other mmos

Mabinogi.nexon.net

If you join get on Tarlach server and add Achaemenes, I would be happy to help you out.

ProgressQuest is the best game EVAR!
I see what you did there.

OT: I recommend DFO, and while a gamepad is nice you don't NEED one. (Though that could just be due to my having been weaned on Mugen and MAME during my formative years.)

I agree on Guild Wars. It is really cheap, especially in the states. I believe you can buy all 4 in Amazon for a really cheap price. The in game shop is just outfits and cool stuff that doesn't give any advantage over other players.

here's a rundown of what's been suggested for ya, based on that statement (most of the posters here don't seem to realize just how slow your laptop is):

-Vindictus -can't run it
-Allods -can't run it
-Lord of the Rings Online -can't run it
-Guild Wars -might be able to run it slowly, and the game initially costs money.
-Dungeons and Dragons Online -can't run it
-Runes of Magic -can't run it
-Mabinogi -can't run it
-MapleStory -viable
-Kingdom of Loathing -might be able to run it slowly
-Battlestar Galactica Online -can't run it
-Dungeon Fighter Online -might be able to run it slowly
-Flash-based MMOs on Kongregate -probably viable, some will run slowly, though
-Ragnarok Online -viable
-Echo Bazaar -viable, text-based
-League of legends -can't run it
-Ultima Online -viable, only some shards are free-to-play, though
-Silkroad Online -might be able to run it slowly
-Champions Online -can't run it
-Fly for fun (Flyff) -can probably run it. Might be a little slow.
-World of Tanks -can't run it
-Age of Conan -can't run it
-Anarchy Online -probably viable, may run slowly (my roommate's suggestion)
-NEStalgia -viable
-Perfect World International -might be able to run it slowly
-Eve Online -can't run it

World of Tanks

Copied from their website

"World of Tanks is a team-based massively multiplayer online game dedicated to armored warfare of the mid-20th century. The game gives you a unique opportunity to feel like a real tank commander taking part in a furious armored offensive! The game features various types of battles, which allows you either to fight against random opponents of your skill level, or form teams and prove your worth in combat against other teams, or train together with your friends, sharpening various combat skills. All battles are staged on diverse detailed battlefields which offer not only an impressive spectacle, but also the tactical challenge of a variety of battle conditions. You start your tank career in World of Tanks with a selection of three basic vehicles of each nation (Germany, USA or USSR) at your disposal. Select a tank, choose a desired battle type and roll out! Your main goal is to receive as much experience and credits in battles as possible. Use credits to repair your vehicles and resupply ammunition, and to enhance your vehicle?s performance on the battlefield by mounting various additional equipment and consumables or training the crew members of your tanks.

Use experience to advance in the game by researching and upgrading your tanks and modules and unlocking more sophisticated vehicles. Thanks to an advanced system of vehicle upgrade and development you have the possibility to try out virtually all the vehicles and weapons featured in the game! The enormous tank fleet at your disposal features 150 American, German and Soviet historically authentic, light, medium and heavy tanks, as well as SPGs and Tank Destroyers, including both legendary tanks and experimental prototypes."

It's a FTP game but u can spend money if u really want but it is one of the few I've seen that don't actually break the game in the paying peoples favor. All they get is slightly more in game money and exp per battle, so they just advance little faster.

From my experience the best free to play MMO that runs well on a laptop is Mabinogi. It is free to play with a cash shop but it is not pay to win. Probably the only thing you would actually want to buy from the shop is a mount which are usually $10 and you really don't need one (This coming from someone who played before mounts were implemented). The world is fleshed out and pretty big, the story quests are interesting, and there is very little grind. There is a small bot problem but they are usually in out of the way areas. Also the dungeons are a bit repetitive but that is only if you just grind one over and over again, which you really don't need to do.
Having played Mabinogi since 2008 (of course before mounts as well) I have to disagree that there is little grinding. Training skills can become extremely tedious at high levels and players who pay are still at an advantage over free players since people who cough up the money can level faster and thus have better characters in a shorter amount of time. The mount issue is just based on how much patience you have, but I'd say you don't need it for the early quest lines. Otherwise I'd agree with everything you said. Also, you didn't mention the rebirth mechanic that gives Mabinogi its unique feel; the ability to reset your character's level and possibly appearance and gender to allow yourself to gain more AP (skill points) for skills.
...I feel like I typed a bit too much.

Maplestory.
Are you sure? I've heard that maple story isn't free.
OP: Sorry can't think of anything free, but if your willing to spend 20$ (as the only payment) then MineCraft is good. O:)

Vindictus
Grindy grindy grindfest.

Age of Conan Unrated is coming soon, F2P. AoC in it's current state is probably the second best MMO quality-wise after Rift right now, that it's going free to play soon should not be dismissed. It was shit at launch, but right now it's one of the very best.
lmao, grind feast? really, what level you get to

and AoC is boring, dull to look at, and the only bright spot about it (melee combat) Vindictus dose 20 times better

moral of the story Vindictus IS free and worth playing, AoC >.> only if your into Conan i say

Diablo 2 + Expansion set = about $20. Free Online, most fun you'll ever have ! No need for heavy graphics card, up to 8 friends playing at once.
