I've often thought about painting but im no good at drawing so i assume they are similar but i would love to be able to paint some amazing masterpiece and be like ..... Yeahhh... I did that! haha
Becoming a master takes lots of time, and some modicum of talent. Becoming good is mainly a matter of time. My own painting has improved a great deal compared to when I started this hobby a few years ago. You can easily add more and more challenge to the painting too by using more advanced techniques or more complex colour schemes.

Warhammer or a similar tabletop miniature game. Even if you don't like playing battles with your army it is very satisfying to see an entire army that you assembled and painted yourself.
Painting (and learning to paint) is quite time consuming and again quite satisfying as you see your work improve.

It's not that difficult. There's plenty of tutorials out there, all you need is a tiny brush and a bunch of paint to make it look all pro-like. :)

I also recommend playing an instrument. Bass guitar is, as you said, pretty boring to do by yourself (unless you go to the more advanced, funk and jazz stuff), but a $40 guitar and a Best of Nirvana instruction booklet can keep you entertained for ages.

Other ideas I've been thinking about but never got around to: paintball, LARPing, steampunkifying everything you own, blacksmithing (I did that for a while - really fun), badminton, judo, pool, snooker, writing stuff for the Escapist, and game design (Game Maker is really easy ^^).

Hope I was useful. :)

Edit: MAKING A ROBOT FOR ROBOT WARS. HELL YEAH

So lately i've been growing kinda bored of games // tv and stuff and i need something to do between seeing my mates.. I don't want like a massive hobby that will take up loads of time and be expensive to start up but something simple yet rewarding and entertaining

What are your hobbies? (Besides gaming)

Can you suggest any for me?

Video games?
I heard those were pretty fun...
Have you tried reading or have you been sarcastic? (I highly doubt the latter one)

Cooking, pretty rewarding and essential to your survival.
Kinda expensive if you wanna make something good
Not necesairly, watch a few cooking shows, despite being very female oriented, excluding the few "Guy Chef" shows. They have great ideas for cheap meals, especially during this recession. However, the real problem is making food for just one person which is nigh impossible. You can easily solve this problem by having a special someone, or your mates over, and cook them something romantic, or "Manly" depending on the situation.

Learn Swahili. Who knows when you'll be caught up in the middle of a conflict between two warlords in Africa?

Learn a programming language. Even something as simple as scripting like bash scripts or vbscript or something along those lines once you start learning how to you will find many things that you can write scripts for.

I love to read! Reading is a great form of entertainment and is often overlooked.
Actually, I was being sarcastic. I knew the guy probably said something about not saying video games, but I was in a mood to completely ignore that for the sake of humor.

haha If you knew me better, "Have you been sarcastic" would inspire you to roll around on the ground desperately clutching your sides. The apathy and sarcasm I express on a daily basis are enough to make most people put a gun between their teeth.

Oh, and to the maker of this thread, try paintball or something. That's always fun. Also, try some kind of dirtbiking or ATVs. They're lots of fun if you live near a desert. If you have snow, try snowboarding. I dunno, there's a lot of good stuff out there if you just look around.

Actually, Fencing is always fun. Thats the swordfighting. I actually have my fencing class later on...
And with that.... I leave this thread...

Nonon all replies are helpful - I do read but not too often it's usually biographies about people i find intresting: ian curtis and the like but i usually find it hard to care about some fictional person i don't know so i don't enjoy reading them sorts of books

I glowstring.. It can be hard to get into just because its challenging to learn all the tricks that can be chained together. Its usually done to techno and trance music, but anything with a solid beat works.

I recommend archery. You can get a recurve or even a compound bow for pretty cheap, and you can make your own targets with cardboard.
It's extremely rewarding, it takes away all your stress, you feel very accomplished when you start hitting closer to the centre after practicing for weeks, and the archery community (at least offline, in real life) is marvelous.
