I've reached the point in my life where it seems that not one video game can keep my interest for more than a few days. I've tried many games but nothing is keeping my interest. Could someone suggest some games that might last a long time for me?

I really enjoy sandbox games, first-person shooters, and adventure games. I don't particularly dislike any genre.
Have you tried Just Cause 2?

No, I haven't. What type of game is it?

It's a sandbox, third person shooter, adventure game...with grappling hooks, parachutes, the ability to fly jets, cheap DLC, insane mods for the PC, and there's only one goal: Cause Chaos...AKA: Blow EVERYTHING up.

One more thing.. this might be the deal breaker.

Can you or can you not interact with anything you want? Like, can you pick up and use whatever your heart desires?

I say you should take a break from video games.

Stop playing them for a while, then come back. Hopefully your game interest will be revived then.

Well you can grapple objects but other than that...not really.

The thing is, you don't NEED to...you're blowing it all up anyways.

Oh, this sounds nice. Very nice. How big is the world? And can you avoid "campaign" entirely?

Real fucking tragic. I am crying for you. I have not cried in years and right now I am crying out a fucking salty river.
Wait, no, those aren't tears, that is my hate leaking from my eye sockets.

Go back to some of your old favourites. Revisit shit from your childhood that you haven't played in ages. Step outside of your comfort zone and play a genre you wouldn't usually play. Stop playing games for a while and do something else. All are good suggestions.
This.

Crack out the old NES or playsation one or whatever is lying around. I recently grabbed an N64 emulator and have been absolutely devouring The legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask and I gotta say, its a blast.

Play Dark Messiah, Diablo 2 expansion, or just turn to Roleplaying games which can always be fun if you're into it.

Tragic problem? You're shitting me.

OT: Try Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, they sound like they match your specifications.

My friend, I share your pain. As much as I love gaming, I've come to an impasse. I've found that games aren't as fun as they used to be. I still love the older games that always captured me in my younger days, but nothing nowadays does it for me.
I, however, am working towards going into the gaming industry as a career in design. I've found more join in creating games that I have playing them. Maybe you should look into something like that too... might spark some interest for you :)

Try cheap/free, short, usually indie, games. Ones that you can pick up cheap and can usually be enjoyed for just a day or 2.

The campaign and missions are possible to avoid, but finishing the 7 main missions unlocks the mercenary mode, and they're fairly short. The missions are a bit cookie cutter to people without an imagination...imagination being the key word. The good news is it ALL ties together. Blowing that base up? Might as well grab the mission for it so you don't have to take it on twice. Tell you what: If you've got an okay internet connection, I can show you what the gameplay is like in a live-stream. I'm clean, so you won't hear anything from me. We can setup a time now or later for me to show you. Just send me a private message and I'll link you through. If you like, I can share my Xfire name so you can comment.

You could start finding other ways to enjoy yourself, get some books, maybe some movies. Possibly start dabbling in anime (not something I find much particular interest in, although there are some worthwhile shows). Maybe if you want some quick fulfillment you could go online, with some tissues in one and and well err, you fill decide on the rest of the story. I had quite a long period where I felt like I could only enojy games until a certain time came and I just couldn't enjoy anything. So I tried other types of media and it was very enjoyable. You just need to balance things out. You don't need to be playing games all of the time.

Custom Robo. Even after you've gotten all the parts and beaten the story mode, you can still spend hours trying out new parts combos and making strategies for them while doing the post-game challenges, pretty much all of which are repeatable as much as you like.

Baldur's Gate 2. Give yourself a few hours to get into it (get used to old graphics, pseudo real time strategic gameplay, etc), and it won't let you go.
