No metal...but SPEED metal is fine?

Eurgh, whatever.

Anyway, Relient K are awesome. Rise Against, City & Colour, Closure In Moscow, Coheed and Cambria, Streetlight Manifesto...all my fave bands.
Heh. I haven't heard about Relient K in a long time. I did sound for one of their shows back when I was in high school. It was 2000 or 2001. They were doing the Christian Punk scene. I was doing a part-time job for moolah.
Woahhh that's pretty cool, you get to talk to them?

Saw them support Paramore, it's what got me into them, they seem really cool and their sound is just awesome.
Normal guys. Most of the musicians are pretty down to earth. Especially when they are up and coming. The only other that I remember seeing there that became famous was The Ataris.

go out and get yourself to a rockabilly/psychobilly show, buy an album while you're there.

You could check-out The Dresden Dolls, kinda like a jazz/punk/cabaret mix.. Quite nifty I think

Ditto. I'm on Tame Impala atm. Song starts quietly, mind.

If you don't mind going a little older, Queen and David Bowie are fantastic Rock/Top 40 artists. And Tenacious D has good songs but may be a little to silly for other people.

If you want music you've never heard before, look up Warren Zevon. A good song to start on is 'Hit Someone (the hockey song)', or 'Life'll kill ya'.

Ruins: Extremely progressive rock/zeuhl, genius-level drummer (not exaggerating).

OOIOO: Similar in some respects to Boredoms, but more upbeat and calm. Dreamlike, even.

Boredoms: Completely goddamned insane if you listen to their first couple of albums (Pop Tatari, Chocolate Synthesizer), and weird/tribal if you listen to their later albums (Super Ae, Vision Creation Newsun). To be honest, I prefer their older work, but both are good.

Melt-Banana: Is it punk or noise rock? Does it matter? It's hard as all fuck, and feels like pure victory in music form. Features one of the most underrated guitarists around.

Deerhoof: Catchy, clever melodies and an upbeat style. This is probably the most accessible band in this list.

Ni-Hao!: There are a lot of bands with this name. I am referring to the one from Kyoto. Their 2005 album Gorgeous is perfect. They take a simple style (two bass guitars and a drum kit) and breathe so much life, creativity and fun into it that I'm very happy they made an album. If only they'd made more..

Afrirampo: Surreal. At first their music can sound a little chaotic, but there's a method to it. These are very talented musicians, so don't let the fact that they're yelling "I AM BIRD" put you off.

Koenjihyakkei: Has the drummer from Ruins, maybe a little less experimental than that band, but it makes up for it with extravagance. Operatic vocals, lots and lots of instruments, the same made-up language. Always worth a shot.

Nisennenmondai: If you listen to Destination Tokyo you may get the impression that they're strictly a kraut-rock kind of band. I think this is a misconception, after seeing them live it becomes clear that the right way to play their music is loud and maybe even with the bass turned up. Hypnotic and fascinating.

eX-Girl: Surreal, surreal, surreal. Experimental and very catchy songs about being from a frog planet, a war between vegetables, a gas lady and so on. Also very, very good. Well-composed and well-played.

These all fit into your request for rock.

I don't know what your looking for, but I doubt your going to find it if you don't search. :) I'm afraid all I can help you with are flashbacks at the moment.

There's a song about Friday by a Ms. Rebecca Black...
That was horrible! I mean "Justin Bieber" horrible! Ugh! Thanks for ruining my day.

I can recommend a couple of artists for you OP:

-System of a Down (and if you like them, Serj Tankian and Scars on Broadway, basically the solo careers of SOAD former members)

-Terranoise (if you like DarkPsy)

Yeah this is all I listen to lately.

I hope you like this. But please don't write them off as another scene band, they're super talented and put on one hell of a live show.
Sounds like someone in that band is a fan of Coheed and Cambria. Personally I'm not into that style of music all that much, but those kids were decent.
