I've gained some weight in the past few months, and I want it off. I have some important things to do that require me to be...well, a lot more fit. Does anyone here have any suggestions? What are some good, healthy ways to lose weight?

Yes, I realize the IMMENSE irony in asking this on a video games forum.

Eat less but more often, stop drinking carbonated drinks, exercise to burn off more than you consume.

The cheeseburger: put it down.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. :)

Well, the obvious solution is to work out and go on a bit of a diet, but that sort of depends on your schedule. If you're always busy, it can be kind of hard to shoehorn proper exercise and diet in there.

If you're not in any serious hurry to lose weight, start cutting out the foods that you know are bad for you and start going for long walks or jogging. Every little bit helps.

Eat bananas and take your vitamins, nothing else, might not be too healthy, oh, and jog.

cut out the junk food and go to a gym 3-4 times a week and see a PT or a nutritionist

what everyone above me has said.

Everything in moderation!

as long as you don't go on one of those crazy diet fads...

There's nothing more harmful to your body than the Atkins diet.

At least you're acknowledging your limits.

Do some stretches when you wake up in the morning and try to put more action into everything you do. That always worked for me.

My system:
-Do you cook? Usually home-cooked meals are healthier than anything you can put in a microwave. And by cooking the food yourself, you help to stave off your hunger and improve your appetite.

-Do you work outside of home or are still going to school? If it's only a few blocks away, you might as well save your gas money and bike-ride over there.

-Do you live near the beach? A few minutes of swimming a day can burn more fat than some of the more grueling exercises out there.

Then again, you could just buy a Total-Gym and (almost) get ripped like Chuck Norris.

Try to work out, specifically, try to build muscle. Muscle eats fat faster than other body tissue, so not only will you lose weight by building the muscle, you'll keep losing weight so that the muscles can maintain themselves. It's a win win.

NO! BAD SMARTASS!

...get a bunch of friends together, and go out to play a mutually enjoyed sport.
If you don't have enough friends to do so(a familiar situation here), then think about what you're eating more, and make a real effort to get out for some kind of physical activity every day.
Yeah, I'm so much help.

ummm cut out all junk food and sugary drinks, replace any snacks you would normally eat with fruit. either go for 20-30 minute walks or better get a bike or exercise bike and ride that for at least 20-30 mins and try and go as far and as fast as possible

Very simple advice. Stop giving a damn about the number on the scale. In fact, toss the scale out. Your weight is not a good indicator of your fitness. If you want to get fit (I refuse to use the term "lose weight" here.) then find exercise you enjoy. Try out anything and everything from yoga to jogging to kick-boxing. If you're trying to get fitter with an exercise regime you absolutely hate it will make you miserable and uninspired. Enjoying the activity means that even once you are fitter you'll keep it up out of pleasure.

Don't stick with something you don't like. Find another way to go.

Also, don't kick yourself if you do miss a session. This isn't a quick answer system. You don't need to put in extra hours to 'make up for' the time you lost, just get back into the swing of it when you can. After all, if you enjoy it, it won't be a chore.
