I'm glad I stopped buying games on launch.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided has been designed to entice people to buy microtransactions. What kind of microtransactions you may ask? AMMO! In a single player game. Pre-order items and $4,99 DLC packs that you can see on Steam are single use only and if you want to use them again in a new save file you'll have to buy them again.

This is probably the worst business model that these AAA publishers have come up with. As if Hitman Early Access in disguise wasn't bad enough already.

I don't even know why I'm trying considering all the other bullshit that gamers have accepted as their new reality over the years. This is probably how things are going to be from now on. AAA publishers will design games to make sure they can squeeze even more money out of us because $60 for core game + $30 or $40 or $50 for Season pass that doesn't even include all the DLC most of the time is just not fuckin' enough for these people.

Oh, and it also runs like shit on PC according to Steam user reviews.

Welp, fuck that. I'll be sticking to Fromsoft and Atlus. I barely even play AAA games anymore.

Didn't Jim make a joke about this once? You can't make this stuff up.

Considering how they tried to run the pre-orders for this game... color me not surprised.

That being said... just...

God damn.

Isn't it just for MP though?

Either way, still shit. And I hope no company ever tries this again.

Three hours in and I don't even know what you're talking about lol.

Also, keep MSAA off and things run fine.

Thirded. It has been running perfectly well on my PC thus far.

I can't think of a single time I ever used ammo in Human Revolution, outside the typhoon for the mandatory-kill boss fights, so this isn't a deal breaker for me.

That said, I concede that's because of my play style. I always use nonlethal options when they're offered, and prefer stealth takedowns for maximum EXP output...plus it feels awesome to just slowly pick people off with my bare hands like Predator or something. XD

A scummy practice in general, though, and a good reason not to preorder a AAA game. if the reviews stay strong I still won't wait long to buy this one, though.

Pretty sure there's no MP at all in the game.
Just double checked you're right. It's breach mode which I thought was MP.

Still shit.

There's apparently some Breach mode thing which is apparently some sort of "multiplayer" thing. And that's what the microtransactions apply to, as far as I'm aware. EDIT: Put it in quotes because from what I've read it's just a mode with a leaderboard and an online requirement.

And yeah, judging by TB's quick video, seems like the game is mostly okay if you don't run with MSAA on. Though honestly I'm not really sure what the benefit of including MSAA even is anymore, since it always seems like it tanks performance regardless of the hardware running it.

Oh for... Really? Are we seriously going to try and make optional microtransactions in a shitty score attack mode that no one cares about into a huge controversy purely based on
A. The erroneous belief that they effect the main story and
B. The totally unsubstantiated belief that the game's resource economy is somehow kneecapped to push said MTs (just like with Dead Space 3... oh wait no that actually 100% didn't happen in DS3 despite the doomsayers assurances).

Wow, so topical. Also, fuck microtransactions. I don't even like DLCs that much unless it's a full game expansion, as in practically another game.

....God fucking damn it Square.

Your shit handling of the game is why it fell off of my radar, and this isn't getting it back on.

So they said that you can play the entire game without using any of the microtransactions. There are a number of single player "accelerators", which let's be honest, are cheats. People have to pay in order to cheat in the game. That to me is one of the funniest things I have ever read.

It wasn't a joke. John Riccitiello actually said he wanted to do the same thing to Battlefield because players wouldn't think twice about spending a dollar on ammo during a firefight.

What a shameful display. Too many video games feel like they want to turn into addiction mills. It's quite disturbing.

Give an inch and they take a mile, I will be waiting for a steam sale. DOOM is the only full priced game I have played in recent memory where I felt like each and every cent was worth it and nothing was lacking for not pre-ordering it or buying DLC(remember that games are up to 20 bucks more expensive in Canada).

Fuck any company that puts micro-transactions in a single player game, no matter how little we think it impacts the game.

I refunded the game just now, damn thing doesn't even launch on my computer. I don't care about the micro-transactions, the fact that the shitty preorder gear packs were single-use doesn't kill me, but the game just wasn't working at all. I couldn't even get the launcher to open, trying every fix I could find online. I'm not confident in Squeenix to make the game work, so I refunded after today's patch didn't help.

I am currently sitting in my chair, being very sad. I was excited for this game.

I'm fairly certain you actually can use them in the main game, since the preorder bonuses are these same MT packs. I agree with point B though. Your DS3 example is especially funny to me. In DS3, you can get the MT currency (ration seals) in-game, but I could never figure out where to spend it. Microtransactions so intrusive, you can't even find them if you try! I beat that game TWICE, lol.
