Spore was to me, the very definition of failed ambition and dissapointment. Right off the bat, from all the E3 demonstrations, you saw elements in a game you wouldn't see anywhere else, and every year they demonstrated it, i felt more and more excited for the game.

What i got was four simplistic mini-games, and a simple version of a space colonization simulator game. Simple, simple...Simple.

Grand theft auto 4. Its the same thing over and over again and they wont stop making them, they just change the character and leave the setting as liberty city. thats just unimaginative.

The new Alien Versus Predator

Except for the graphics, it was in every way inferior to the 2000 version.

You could chop up the 2000 version into three pieces and sell it at the price of the new AvP and it would still feel better buying those than what I did.

The Wii Just kidding! There ARE some Wii games I like, even if I only play them once in a blue moon.

But you can add me to the whole Spore cue. I liked it for a bit, but it got really old really fast. I wasn't so much "depressed" about it so much as thoroughly disappointed.

Bioshock 2. I can't believe i pre-ordered that crap, I should have just stayed home and played through Bioshock again since it's so incredibly similar. I didn't even finish the second one.

I would be cool and say Modern Warfare 2, but I think I got my money's worth with that one. I loved the campaign and Spec Ops, and had genuine fun with the multiplayer for about 40 hours. Now, not so much.

I'm gonna go with Guitar Hero: On Tour. I bought it the day it came out, beat every song on expert that week. It was a piece of fucking cake, that game. The peripheral was kinda decent, hurt your hand after a while, though.

Modern Warfare 2, Spore.

Probably made a few other mistakes in my earlier days, but, those are the recent ones to my memory.

Metroid Prime: Other M. If the next Zelda game turns out to be terrible I think I'm just going to stop buying nintendo games.
Thanks man. I was having trouble thinking of something, because these days I usually only preorder/pay full price if I already know I'm going to love the hell out of a game. Other than that, I'll pick it up later when it's cheap so it's not such a sting if I hate it.

But you... You said Zelda, which reminded me of pre-ordering Phantom Hourglass, which quite frankly I feel was a disgrace. Everything about it was a meh-festival or worse... The normal dungeons were all linear snore-fests as far as I can remember, the thing where you have to go back to that phantom dungeon after every regular dungeon was a pain in the ass, and the combat was just bland. Somehow just slashing back and forth across the screen with a stylus wasn't as fun as pushing a button. Maybe because it takes more effort and allows for more errors to occur? And the one thing I know for sure I hated was having my hand in the way of the screen just to play. They could have used the same control set-up but reversed: look at the top screen and move Link by moving the stylus in the direction you want him to go just like it was on the bottom screen. Lots of games have done action on top with controls on bottom... Okay I can only think of Super Mario 64 DS and Star Fox Command off the top of my head, but still, they worked in terms of controls without putting the action on the bottom screen.

So yeah, Phantom Hourglass is probably the most recent game that I couldn't believe I paid full price for.

Devil May Cry 2 and Dominion: Storm Over GIFT 3.

I also paid full price for the Star Wars: Phantom Menace PC game, but that was totally worth it because I got to stab C-3P0 with a lightsaber. Awesome.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Star Wars: Rebellion. I think they were trying for a kind of Master of Orion kind of thing set in the Star Wars universe, but it was so clunky and obtuse that I didn't even care.
