I played the sequel before the original

Well im a little late for the sequel related forum bonanza but i decided i would still do this any way.

Have you ever played the sequel to a game before even touching the first? For me this is true with a couple of games, Recently i downloaded Harvset Moon for the N64 and im having a really good time with, but i first played harvest moon: a wonderful life for the gamecube, that one is not that good. BUT i played Dark Cloud 2 before Dark Cloud and DK2 is way better, in my opinion. Same thing with F.E.A.R 2 and The Silent Hill game (i played homecoming by myself but number 3 and 4 with my sister).

So yeah those are my games what are yours?

I played KOTOR 2 before KOTOR. The experience was....interesting. Playing through KOTOR 2 again with the backstory provided by the first is much better.

I played Majoras Mask and Sly 2 before the originals. Whewn I played Ocarina of Time it felt like there was a heap missing, so I prefer MM personally.

Played Half Life 2 without playing the first.

Played Starcraft 2 without playing the first.

Played Fatal Frame 3 without playing the previous ones. I wish I never played that game.

Lots actually. This is a common phenomenon, whether you weren't born yet or the original is just old and not as new. For me, the list includes:
Mechwarrior 2, Destroy all humans 2, Homeworld 2, CoD4, Half-Life 2, V8 Supercars 2, Fallout 3, I'm sure there's more.

This and Age of Empires 2 before the first. Didn't effect the story to much though (thank God).

I played Deus Ex Invisible War before I played the original Deus Ex and man was I lucking out. I almost didn't play the original because DE:IW was so underwhelming...

Hmm... let's see... I can only think of one straight up sequel (GTA: Vice City before GTA 3) but I can think of a few that kinda-sorta count...

Vandal Hearts 2, Shining Force 2, GTA 2, Gauntlet Legends, Final Fantasy 7, Donkey Kong 64, and Pilotwings 64.

I did it a couple times, and each time I've regretted it immensely. If you only care about gameplay, and don't give a crap about the story or progression of the series, by all means go ahead. If you have any respect for the storytelling art of video games, however, you will play the first before touching the second. The only exception would be games that are not connected to each other story-wise (the Final Fantasy series, for instance) and games that have no story and are all about gameplay anyway.

-Starcraft 2 Wtihout playing the first. I only saw a lot of vids regardin SC1, but never ever played it!
-Call of Duty 4 was my first (and last) of the CoD series.
-Warcraft 3 and I have never touched WC1 or 2.
-GTA4 before any other part.
-Bad Company 2 before BC1.
-Soul Calibur 4 before any other installment.
-Final Fantasy 13 before any other previous part. Though I will try them soon.

Those are the games I started those franchises. I have played almost all thr older ones too except for Fallout 1 and 2 and some Resident Evil games.

I played the MGS games in chronological order without even realizing it. 3, 1, 2, 4.
I think i actually understood the overall storyline better, thanks to that. Or i just think i did.

I played the Metal Gear Solid games in the order 3,4,3,2,PO,PW. I've yet to play MGS1.
