For a long time I have known Justin Bieber as the death of all good music and I've hated him for it. From his cheesy music to his unholy love of purple to the fact that he got a movie made about him when he is still 16. I never really understood my friends (I'm a teenager stuck in this craze between twihards and Belibers -_-) fascination with him. To me, he seemed like just an average guy with nothing special about him and I always thought that was it. I thought he didn't deserve all that attention because he was an ordinary guy that (to me) didn't do much to deserve that fame. Then I saw this on my Tumblr Dashboard:
And then it hit me. I don't hate Bieber. I just hated his fans.
This post made me angry because it assumes that I am jealous of him. (But I do disagree with calling him gay. I think gay as a term shouldn't be used in context to insult.) And I know for a fact that I'm not jealous of him and neither are most people who dislike Bieber.
The funny thing is that I can replace the celebrity names here with any other celebrity and it would still fit the context. I can do it right now. (click the spoiler because I don't want this to be a crazy wall of text.)
What are Rihanna and Chris Brown to me? Sure, they are celebrities, but they are also people who happen to be more successful. But does that make them any better then my best friends? No.
Why would I want millions and millions of pre-pubescent girls (or boys in my case since I'm a girl) and sad soccer moms wanting to sleep with me? (Well, ok. the poster might have a point there, but seriously, who would want to sleep with a creepy fan who has posters of you in their bedroom? They are the gateway partner to stalker ex-girlfriends.)
"No, you're sitting at home reading this status with your hand on your dick." Well, you're sitting at home writing this status. I don't see you doing any better.
Now, I've listen to his music and I don't like it, but I don't hate it either. I mean, I don't like country music but I don't hate the singers for it. Someone in the world likes it and that's fine with me.
I don't know if it's just me. But I realized that I don't care about celebrities or their lives. To me, they are just regular people who just happen to appear in the media. Justin Bieber would just be a regular kid who sings if it wasn't for the fans that he has and it's those people who are the ones who irk me. They get angry if Bieber dates a girl, they get angry if his music is criticized, they get angry at every provocation.
The same thing goes to the Twihards. Twilight would just be another book on the shelf if it wasn't for that small part of crazy fanbase that idolizes it. (And trust me, Twilight is better book then 99% of other Harlequin and trashy romance novels out there simply because there is a plot. No matter how bad it is.)
Wow. That's a large wall of text
Hope it doesn't scare you guys off. Thoughts?
