I think alcohol is not as bad as people think.

this title is misleading, since the OP is talking about drinking alcohol socially, in moderation. if youre getting fucked up off something then you arent using it in moderation.

in any case, no. its is not bad if used in that way. even if you get drunk every so often its not that bad, as long you only do it sometimes and you manage to stay mostly in control. if youre blacking out or waking up with someone you dont remember sleeping with, then it becomes bad. having a few beers helps me to be more outgoing and more social. but theres a big difference between taking the edge off, and being "that guy"

alcohol isnt evil, but people are stupid and irresponsible

you drunk kids go and enjoy your loud talking and dancing and sex and whatever else you kids do. ill sit here with my friends, in this foggy room, and have a deep philosophical discussion about the stain on the carpet

Watching and talking to drunks is fun. Doing the same to stoners isn't.

i disagree. when im sober, i find drunk people to be obnoxious. dont get me wrong, talking to stoners when you arent high isnt much fun either, but at least they dont usually make as much noise

It depends on why you drink. There is nothing wrong with having a few drinks in a social atmosphere, but it's when you purely drink to get wasted or have issues handling your alcohol that it becomes a problem.

As with anything its fine in moderation. The problems only arise when people abuse it.

However the public reaction is similar to when video games are blamed for violence. One person without discipline/self control can ruin public opinion for those who can control it. Sadly in the society we live in if one person fucks up WE HAVE TO THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

Are you seriously saying you've never seen a drunk hurt someone on purpose? Maybe it's just because I live in stoke but a significant amount of the times I go out I've seen some drunken idiot attack some other drunken idiot for what has to be little to no reason.
Stoke...as in england? As in Stoke-on-Trent because yeah it sucks here for drunken attacks just the other day a buddy of mine got his nose broken by some drunk when he was walking home from work was walking home
OT: i have to go by my standard of everything in moderation

Like many other things, alcohol is fine (and even somewhat healthy) in moderation. The problem is that like many drugs, it seriously screws up your definition of "moderation". It's been scientifically proven that even "buzzed" people have trouble judging their own limits or being self-critical, and in an environment where everyone is still drinking, the pressure is there to keep up with them.

Personally, as someone who has an addictive personality and whose father was an alcoholic, I'm probably by myself the #1 risk group for alcoholism, so I won't even touch the stuff.

[small]It used to be that, on my birthday, I took my friends out so they could get drunk- but after my then-roommate almost puked all over the inside of my car and then spent ten minutes retching into the bushes on the edge of a parking lot, that little tradition came to a swift end.[/small]

Honestly, I see no problems with alcohol itself. It's a social experience, it can make things interesting, and is completely safe if you're not an idiot. In fact, alcohol (specifically red wine) helps increase circulation and lessen the likelihood of heart attacks. Me and the guys go out drinking just about every weekend, and we always have a good time. None of us are violent, but we do do some stupid things, and those stupid things are what makes it interesting. It's nothing bad; hitting on a girl you normally wouldn't is interesting, and watching someone else do it is even more fun. Never has one of us gotten more violent than they would normally (we all give eachother a quick punch to the shoulder now and then, and that's all it gets while drinking), and we all know our limits, so we don't ever get pass-out drunk.

The issue comes from idiots drinking. People who are stupid in the first place, but then get even more stupid after having a few drinks. It's not just the alcohol that does it; most of the people I've seen get drunk and then drive have been in accidents while sober, or been jerks while sober, and so on. It's not the drink that makes you get in to a car afterwards, it's you being plain old stupid. Same with anything else; responsible people drinking tend to remain responsible; they don't do anything dangerously stupid, they just do things stupid. Irresponsible people who drink irresponsibly end up doing dangerously stupid things while drunk.

Moderation is key to this and pretty much everything in life. There's a time and place for it. My philosophy with it is what comes up must come down and the more I drink, the more I feel awful tomorrow.

It is not evil, it is just unhealthy.

It makes me have to pee quite a lot. They need to make a version that doesn't do that.

Nothing wrong with a few drinks if you're in a good mood. I strongly dislike it when people drink out of anger or depression, as that just makes things worse.

I've never been drunk before due to emetophobia, but I've been around happy drunks and they're funny and cool to be around.

I'm not old enough to drink though I've had sips of wine before and just from the smell I don't see the appeal. In fable 3 I did all the "Good" options but outlawing alcohol was somehow bad and that really threw me.I can understand the initial drawbacks but it would only lead to better things and since I'm a magic king with an army and ridiculous amounts of money my prohibition would work. All I can really say as a non drinker is that it's a buzz followed by a hangover. Worth the side effects and stupid decisions? Oh and rape.

Close, but tobacco kills more. Link is a graph of annual deaths by drugs. Though numbers are absolute rather than relative.

drinking isn't bad, its when people but ad ons to it, for example under-age teenagers thinking that they are rebelling by join the other thousands of teenagers that drink under age. Also I think that people who are already stupid with the affect of alcohol also shouldn't drink because drinking is only bad when stupid people start drinking.

But tobacco is legal. And going by that graph alcohol kills over 10 times the amount of people as the illegal drugs combined, hell looks like it's closer to 25 times.

Small amount of alcohol = good thing

Large amount of alcohol = bad thing

Basically anything that science and the bible can actually agree on is pretty solid truth in my opinion.
