Dude...its ninja game..its not suppose to be epic...its suppose to be stealthy!

Also that is the first mission I think...
No no, i meant by epic, that.. you know, story and stuff.. Not epic in the game style.

But i checked the video, and... you know it lacks refinement. And it's limited really.
It was one mission of a game released over 10 years ago in the PS1...

And it is the only ninja game series that actually portrays ninjas doing stealth stuff.

There already has been a realistic "Ninja" game- the Hitman series is THE CLOSEST to what "ninja's" were like in real life. If you actually go back and research what ninja's were and how they acted out assassinations, they pretty much were primative versions of Agent 47. Also, Assassin's Creed was a more elementary form of what a "ninja" was like, of course many ninja were tought to be incognito and not to arouse suspicion... Altair was dressed in stark white with a ****-load of blades and weapons fully visible to guards and others. The concept of incognito was clearly not a present idea in his character creation, only the Rule of Cool.

Sorry for the lengthy synopsis, I just wanted to clear the air here!
Yeh this is so true. I want something as complicated as Hitman! Not just a casual game. But set with a Ninja.

Again. Tenchu.

Everyone else has mentioned Tenchu, but have you played one of the two Way of the Samurai games yet? They are a bit older and for the PS2, and are also short, but that's all Japan samurai gaming based off of actual history. (Though gamed up to make it interesting, of course.) The first was better than the second, in my opinion, and I believe a third is going to come out in the future for the PS3.

A game that would be totally realistic would be very, very boring. Games are meant to be an escape portal from the depressing lives of so called normal people, where they can, even just for an hour or two, feel like a superhuman hero who saves the day and gets all the appreciation which they won't get in their "normal" everyday, miserable lives.

So by realistic you mean unrealistic?
You want a game based on what you believe Ninjas and Samurai did. When in fact the ninja's role in history has been greatly exaggerated.

Anyway, Tenchu (PS1) and Tenchu Z (Xbox 360) for ninjas and Bushido Blade (PS1) for Samurai.

(even though Bushido was not formalized until the 1900s)

A game like mount and blade, but based on historical Japan would be cool. You could call it Way of the Horse and Bow as a nod to the initial inspiration, as well as making a reference to the earlier code of the Samurai.

There was this one game early PS2 that was a rather short samurai game but there were many different paths or samurai clans to choose form.

I think a samurai game would make good use of anolog sticks.
Hear me out: The left for movement of your character and the right for moving your sword.
So to slash (for example ) you move the right analog from up to down to do an over head strike. Left to right to do slash across the belly from left to right. from down left to upper right for a rising slash in those directions. you get the idea.

I guess you could do the same with a mouse too. Hold down the mouse button and move the mouse in directions for your slashes, with number pad for movement ( to include diagonals ). Hold down the other button for block moves ( with the same idea as slashes ). Same with the controller option, hold down a button and move the Slash stick for blocks. Thrusts with spears are handled the same way, mostly from down to up commands for thrusts ( back and forth )

You could pick up armour pieces on the way which you can repaint for customisation. But armour slows your movement and slash speeds down a bit.
Or you could go no armour to keep light and fast.

I read some where ( citation needed ) that the first ninja were samurai any way. So you could also go the ninja route. Holding down a button while you move for the slow / stealthy movement. LOS and shading adding to your stealth.

No leveling, no power ups. Just the skill of the player and the speed with which he can enter his commands. ( much like real samurai then ). Just simple slash commands. But repeated use of items increases your ability with them. So slashing for 8 hours a day for a month with the same sword makes your stikes with that weapon faster and stronger ( so i guess leveling of a sort, but a more realistic practice over time )

Realistic weight distributions, so cant carry an arsenal of weaponry. But you could get yourself a Diaymo (sp?) to use his place as a strong hold so you can change weapons if you want. Or perhaps just stash it in a cave somewhere.

Im not sure how to handle the death mechanic though. I guess as there is no leveling it could be a reincarnation thing, where you come back as some one else. Obviously being the player you know where your guy has stashed what ever loot he had, kinda like a spiritual instinct in the reincarnation regards.

Not every strike is deadly, but nearly always leaves you bleeding, so medical attention must be sort / self first aid applied. Bandages and Balms would probably the most readily available. ( again repeated use increases the likelyhood these will actually work ). So that gives you items to collect outside of weapons and armour.

With your primary weapon put away using the Shoulder buttons in conjunction with the slash commands allows you to strike with unarmed attacks ( foot attacks allowed with weapon drawn, hand attacks when a one handed weapon is drawn ), the slash stick defining the target area / angle of the attack.

Food gathering gives you something to do aside from killing oher people.
I think a Rest ( stamina bar ) and hungry / thirsty bar then.

Im thinking of profession work as well. But i see using the slash stick to strike a piece of metal to shape it into a piece of armour / sword rather tedious. But for those who want to spend 10 hours striking a piece of metal, feel free...

Doing these tedious task makes your (stamina) bar decress slower if you do them long enough. Like endurance training.. Help the locals build a fortress wall, lugging one stone to the wall at a time. Holding the run button down while moving around for extended periods. Swimming in the rivers.

Bowmanship: I guess push a button to enter "sniper" mode with a bow / xbow / throwing weapon equipped. Things like the wind effect your shot, but effectively the item goes "straight". Again repeated use helps the "straightness" of your shot / throw. So obviously the closer you are the more likely you are to hit the target, but also more likely to be seen by your opponent.. can you get the shot off in time, accurately ?

All the "training" your guy does is a sliding scale. So if you dont use a skill for a length of time the slider goes down, and you loose a bit of skill with the action.
I guess though there is no upper limit, bu tthen you can only ever be so good at something in Real Life. But i dont want people to see the slider bar and try to keep everything maxxed out to be the most effective.

A lot of it has do with the player controlling the character though, and they might be having a slow day and get slashed by a newby sort of thing.
Which again kind of reflects your character having a slow day. probably should have stayed at home today.

So yeah thats all i can think of for now.

So would you play it ?

The Ninjas were peasants who killed people for money and the Samurai were a kind of warrior middle class who believed very ahem.. 'firmly' in the benefits of homosexual relationships between teacher and student.

Yeah.. a realistic Samurai game would be awesome.

Don't forget the relationships with swans. That would be a quicktime event and a half.

A realistic samurai fighting game:

The two opponents stare at each other for about an hour trying to psych each other out. This is one large hour-long quicktime event with nothing happening on the screen except the button press prompts. The number of mistakes allowed depends on the difficulty of the opponent. If you make too many, you crack and charge too early only to get chopped down. If you make it to the end, both samurai charge at eachother, at which point the player has a few seconds to input a series of attacks (2-3). Depending on the attacks chosen and the success of the hour-long QTE, a winner is determined...

I've thought about giving that a shot, it reviewed bad though.
