You can try Mount and Blade for the PC. It's game play consists of mounted and foot infantry combat, set in a fictional medieval European atmosphere. While the vanilla version isn't exactly what you want, I'm sure there's tons of mods you can nab that'll put a japanese-bushido blade style to the game.

http://www.taleworlds.com/ for a demo.

This may be the most inaccurate post I've seen all day. Ninja were samurai.

Only because you said you were interested in accuracy.

Everyone else has mentioned Tenchu, but have you played one of the two Way of the Samurai games yet? They are a bit older and for the PS2, and are also short, but that's all Japan samurai gaming based off of actual history. (Though gamed up to make it interesting, of course.) The first was better than the second, in my opinion, and I believe a third is going to come out in the future for the PS3.
27 posts deep and someone fnally said it. Thank you.
Any time.

It is a tad strange that no one had mentioned it sooner. I thought the series was at least remotely popular.

Apparently not popular enough. has Yakuza been localised for the west?

Realism in Japanese originating armed combat:

Go practice kendo!

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=Kendo&aq=f

No jumping around or swiggly swaggly sword tricks. BACAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK.

The reason why there arent any realistic Samurai games are because that would be fuckin boooooooooooooring.

Also: ninjas were a lot less with poison/spiffy ninja tricks/nijutsu and a lot more with actually slitting throats and doing actual martial combat.

Take it from an expert.

No I didn't. I meerly pointed out that some of the 'realistic' aspects of Samurai life wouldn't make for a fun game. But feel free to vent some more.

A realistic ninja game is impossible by gaming logic.
Ninjas must be awesomely kick-ass in a video game.
Real ninjas are not awesomely kick-ass.
Realistic ninjas cannot be in a video game.

Believe me, i didn't mean anything different from your reply.

Kendo fights when one on one, are incredibly boring, but when you are facing multiple enemies, it isn't. And that's what i said.

And about poison and ninjas, of course they used joint locks, disarming and throat slitting more! I said the word "poison" only once to just point out that sometimes they used it.

Not really! Why not? Imagine acrobatics like Assassin's Creed, or even less (meaning more realistic), and that would be great alone. Actually real parcours moves would do it! Plus a stealth gameplay, like in Splinter Cell and Thief! I think this is alone, without the fighting, will be awesome! This is realistic and will kick ass!

You know what I want? Something different.

How about a Fallout 3 style open world shooter in a Mirror's Edge Cyberpunk city?

How about a GTA-Styled Super Villain world with destructable enviroments?

How about a super hero game set in a dystopian future where your actions slowly changes the game world?

How about a portal styled game in an open enviroment where you play as a teleporting alien in a sci fi enviroment

No more anime games

No more ninja/samurai games

No more space marines

Give me something original.

Edit: Also? Realism is fucking awful, stop it.

I practice Kendo myself, and I know that Kendo and Kenjutsu are not very far apart. And yes, fights in kendo between MASTERS are boring to the untrained eye. But so are fights in Judo, Aikido, Naginatado, etc. All of the 'sports' (~do) can look a bit boring, bu on the 'battlefield' (~jutsu) your fights would not be much different, because whoever gets the first strike wins.

Actually i do like realism. For me, it's more immersive.

But nonetheless your ideas are great. Really.

Well, yeh whoever gets the first strike wins, but imagine a series of first strikes? Between you and multiple enemies? I know it's a bit heroic, but can be done, and will look cool.

And i don't want the protagonist to be kyu experienced, lol, he should be advanced to a really high level.

I build with Legos myself, and it's not very far apart from building with steel girders, construction cranes and concrete.
