Just started this one. Not a good starting point to get into anime, but it's good thus far.

Recently my wife and I have started watching some Anime like Samurai Champloo, Samurai X, Corpse Princess, and a few others. While we enjoy these, we want to broaden our horizon. So if anybody knows of some good Anime to check out (and I'm sure you'll do) let us know. Thanx.
how bout afro samurai and the boondocks?

Trigun, if you like Westerns. Do you like Westerns?

Just tell me what genre of movie you like, and I'll give a suggestion or two.
Yeah I also like horror, sci fi, kung fu, and action...so yea I know almost all anime falls under one of those.

Hmmm, what's a good one for that?

Darker than Black fits pretty well. Go for that. I like it dubbed, but it really works well either way. The main character is basically Chinese Electric Batman who knows Kung Fu.

Garden of Sinners (Kara no Kyoukai) hasn't been licensed or dubbed yet, but is a really good watch. Fits well with the horror/scifi/action stuff.

If you want more, I can recommend some giant robot shows and comedy/action series.

Though it's already been mentioned, I suggest giving Cowboy Bebop a shot. I'm pretty sure it was done by the same guys who did Samurai Champloo.
I also think that Black Lagoon is pretty good, and close in feel to Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, though with a lot more swearing (I'm talking about Tarantino or Scorsese movie level swearing).

you know, there are anime blogs that give very good descriptions of current shows, and huge backlogs where have written detailed reviews of every episode of shows as they were running.

Strap on you crazy helmet, that's about it. Oh ya, make sure you have a comfy chair because you will be sitting in it for quite a long time.

Ergo Proxy...just do it...

Gungrave, if you want something depressing yet exceedingly badass...

Blue Sub No. 6, if you don't mind it only being 4 episodes...

Le Chevalier D'Eon, it's pretty good sort of alternative history, the stories a little messy but a good watch...

Gundam The 08TH MS Team, the best gundam series evar...

Darker Than Black, as the name would suggest it's slick, dark and cool, it has great action and an interesting plot to boot...

FLCL... it's just 6 episodes of awesome craziness with an undercurrent of pedophilia...<.<

Serial Experiments Lain if you want to try something off the beaten path... A great intellectual anime with a great story, a surreal art style and sublime artistic direction giving it an amazingly thick atmosphere...

Durarara -- This one is a great suspense/drama/action/mystery anime with a dash of fantasy to bring out the flavor. It takes place in Ikebukuro Japan, and the characters are all very colorful and interesting. This one is 25 episodes long. This one is not on Hulu, but it's fairly popular and not hard to find.
It is on Crunchyroll, however.

I would suggest this thread: [link]http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.279486-Anime-Virgins[/link]

Just to post a few, a list if you will.
  • Evangelion
    Haruhi
    Cardcaptor
    Cowboy Bebop
    Higurashi
    FLCL
    Death Note
    Bubblegum Crisis (either)
    Sailor Moon (original dialogue)
    Soul Eater
    Highschool of the Dead
    Desert Punk

Onwards and upwards.

It's been said before, but it's hard to recommend without knowing what you're into. For example, the anime that I'd recommend, for the most part, NO ONE else would.

Lucky Star (Been done a hundred times)
Shugo Chara
K-on
Card Captor
Azumanga Daioh
Fruits Basket(Though you should really read the manga, the anime doesn't do it justice)

I love the slice-of-life anime, but if you want action, just refer to the afore listed in all the other posts. The only ones I would add would be...

Gundam (Doesn't matter which, just makes sure you START AT THE BEGINNING)
Zoids is good if you stop after the third one (Century Zero)
Big O is good the first time through.

Well my first true blue anime was Elfen Lied, it was very good start for me. Then I watched Lucky Star (awesome), and then I watched Spice and Wolf seasons 1 and 2 (ECONOMICS WHOO).

And how are you still sane? more power to you, obviously, but...damn...that's a really crazy lineup. They're good shows, but not one after the other...

Getting back to the topic at hand, Elfen Lied and Higurashi are great slasher/horror series. Ghost in the Shell is fantastic sfi-fi/cyberpunk. I think everyone has hit all the must see titles.

Also, for those of you that liked the Gurren Lagann dub, I was talking with Kyle Hebert at Anime Detour earlier this month. He told me that the dub was a rush job, and that his agent was contacted about the Kamina role right around the same time Scyfy channel announced it was coming to Ani-Mondays. They had dub, record, quality check, and all that crazy stuff in a matter of weeks instead of the usual months.
