no, nothing ever really gets in the way. I just turn it off for a few hours, make a token appearance, then go back upstairs.

It's a good system.

Nothing really. I spend so much time gaming, that doin gother stuff doesn't bother me. besides, if i'm with my friends some fo them are gamers, so we will usually game, or talk about gaming, and it's the same when i'm visiting my parents, cause my brother games a lot too.

Now if i could just get my girlfriend to get into gaming. She wanted me to teach her how to play warcfraft 3 the otehr day, but it didn't really go that well. She thinks spore is hard.

So, you value your "video games" more them your siblings, parents, relatives and friends? Is this true? If so, video games changed the way you live your life.

OT: Nothing gets in my way except parents who restrict my time. But other then that nothing and I mean nothing ever got in my way. except once my niece came over while I was playing a violent game so I had to stop DAMNIT!

OP, you sound a bit like a douche for that story. I'm not trying to insult you, but really, you do sound pretty bad for preferring to play games rather than see your half-brother and spend time with him. That's just plain nasty.

That said, I've sometimes played games as a means of procrastination from work. However, I usually finish on time anyway and meet all my deadlines, so it doesn't matter too much in the long run...

Anyone else in my family trying to use the Internet for anything at the same time as I am trying to play something online. Not so bad if it's just looking at web pages most of the time, but it is rarely ever that since chances are either my brother or sister is on youtube and using some high-bandwidth site, squeezing out of our already limited bandwidth Internet connection.

We live in the middle of nowhere, and the physical lines in the ground are incapable of handling anything greater than about 60KBps.

My ping goes over 500 more times than I care to count, and it can often go over 2000. And this isn't some kind of magic lag that makes it easy for me to kill others and impossible for them to hit me. It's lag in the UPLOAD speed.

I.E.; I CAN'T MOVE. I can't aim, I can't shoot, I can't see anyone coming, my reaction times are about 5 seconds for every action. I am an utter sitting duck, and no matter what game I'm playing when it happens, I can't. Do. Shit.

As you can probably guess, it never fails to be utterly infuriating, especially when I am actually having fun for once or trying to play with online friends I don't often get the chance to play with.

A far milder but still annoying occurrence is when I'm in the middle of playing a game and someone calls me off to do an utterly trivial and arbitrary task for them. Normally I wouldn't mind, but I find it so hard to get immersed into a game that when I actually achieve it (I.E. I'm playing a game I REALLY like) then it's annoying very easily.

...Wow, I didn't mean for it to turn into a semi-rant like that...
You get a cookie if you read all that.

Yea, I feel that. There's nothing more important to me in this world than my 7 month old daughter but kids sure are an overnight lifestyle change aren't they?

I got Fallout 3 for my birthday last year, and didn't want to go to my own party.

I still went though.

Edit:

It actually wasn't Fallout 3. It was something that came out in May, but I can't remember what.

I had just gotten a PS3, and almost an hour later I had to go out-of-state for two days. >_<

Um...No. But I will admit I get that similar frustration because I want to play some games and just chill out. Especially the monday after a break...but it wears of.

Personally, it's when I start up a PSP game, I hear the one note of guitar and the psp logo is in the screen, a few to ten seconds go by with a black screen. Finally the loading screen, usually a brief 2 1/2 seconds. Then it's the occasion I will see the entire opening cinematic that goes on until the end or you press a button, so I don't press any buttons. Then I'm at the title screen, when "Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiif! It's time for bed!" I forgot to mention it's around 8:30, which is when the lights go off and I'm alone. I either keep going until I start to sleep, or just turn it off.

Or the above paragraph with the minor adjustments of I'm playing a game and I want to start a new game, I do, then the new game cinematic will be playing, I get to the point I can press buttons, then the usual bedtime call. It gets frustrating.

I just realized that the first paragraph usually occurs when I play Mana Khemia because they have as fuckload of loading screens, one for every section you walk into, the map screen, alchemy screen, and the good old take-the-last-volt-out-of-your-battery Loading Screen. That game eats battery like a ***** with the munchies.

Mini Power outages: Really annoying cause they come and go without warning and really fucked up with my grinding in P4.

Regular power outages are just a bit less annoying.

There's always something: phone calls, someone at the door, etc. It's more about the timing, and that is when you can't save the game, you're well immersed and having fun or stuff like that.

Yes, that's exactly what I said... xD

No, but as gaming is my hobby its just a real pain sometimes when you want to have a nice long sesh (doesn't exactly happen too often with GCSEs at the minute) on a game you've been waiting a year for, only to discover that things you don't want to do get in the way.

Like a 7-year-old's birthday party.

I don't really understand why people don't get this: I don't want to go to a 7-year-old's birthday party in which I shall play no part in.

You're telling me you'd rather do that then kick-back and play on the game you've been waiting for for a year-and-a-half instead of stand around watching a load of 7-year-olds scream and run around for 5 hours? :p

I'm in a similar predicament. I've pre-ordered Mass effect 2 and since I'm in England it will be released here on the 29th but I'm going round a friends for a sleepover at the weekend, so I wont be able to play it! NO! But he has got Army of two, which is no substitute of course, but at least I'll be entertained until I get back home.

Well, its clear that you're still "mentally" not mature. I mean, even if I wanted to play lets see... Aliens Vs Predator 2 on the PC I would go. And thats where you bring your hand-held! But that is really nasty. How old are you by the way. Because my arguement is based on you being a 17~18 yearold.

P.S: I would argue my way out of it not involving video games because your parents suddenly turn into Atkinson. Also, a 7 year-olds birthday? Man, I hope you aren't 17 or 18...

I'm 15, and I'm plenty mature - which is the reason why I don't want to go to a 7-year-old's birthday.

You're really getting away from the point - I've had exams/revision/coursework this week, and the only thing to look forward to has been Mass Effect 2 arriving so I can have break before returning to said coursework.

I fail to see how not wanting to go to a 7-year-old's birthday to sit around with the adults (who all have 20+ years on me) makes me an arse hole. I'm going anyway, I just really cannot be arsed xD

Well obviously you have low Karma j/k Life's not fair get used to it. The reason for you being an arse is because its because of video games. As I said before, using video games for an excuse will not get you anywhere in life. Just say you wan to do you work. Assuming your gaming system/s is in your room, just push play!

I'm not being an arse, I've just got something I'd rather do that's being blocked out by something no-one in their right mind would want to do.

Nor did I say I was using the games to get me anywhere, I'd just prefer to have a nice long session for the first time in a while. You know, like all gamers like to?

But well done, you've completely gotten away from the point.
