I don't get why you take this as a "huge insult" and instantly people start labeling him as an "ass hole", this makes you just as bad and judgemental as him.... on the other hand, yeah he's an asshole xD (yeah I'm also a hypocrite, get over it =] )

Anyway, as long as you're not a console fanboy and you don't only play solitaire and mine sweeper... then you can class yourself as a true gamer =]

That... honestly makes no sense to me. A "trendy gamer"... to me, would be a gamer who doesn't look like a total stereotypical nerd and have bad hygiene and all that stuff. Which wouldn't be an insult.

Making it sound like an insult, like "gamer who only does trendy stuff"... that would only be if you played only the most popular games and didn't really actually like them, which sounds like it's not the case...

I always sort of new I was a nerdy kind of kid growing up. Played super Nintendo instead of riding bikes when i was 7-9. Not paying attention to my guests at my birthday when i got my N-64. Playing D&D 3.5 with buddies and having a good old time with WOW (pre wrath).

I'm all over the place with gaming and its subcultures. But I've grown up, got a job and moved on.

But today I ran into an old gamer acquaintance who saw me with my new dressed up look, car, and psp ect, and he told me I looked like "one of those stupid trendy gamers".

Has any one else been called that?

Or do you think its true that if you leave the basement that your no longer a "gamer"?
Perhaps you should tell him he looks like one of those "overweight, acne riddled nerd stereotype" gamers?

He is most likely jealous that you can fit into mainstream society. Shun him! SHUN!!!!
I support this notion. Giving in to the quips of other people will only drag you down. Be a man! STRONGER THAN ALL!

Seriously This.

But honestly, is being called 'trendy' bad? I was called a trendy gamer but they meant it as a compliment. They meant it as I was someone who has a large group of friends, I like to dress nice/care about my appearance, and have a healthy social life. I just also play video games in my spare time.

Honestly of all the things you could have been called 'trendy' is pretty low on the list.

I've had 'slut gamer'
Dunno where that came from, I'm definately not a slut...
I'm not quite sure how those two words relate to each other.

To the OP: I haven't been called that, but just ignore the guy.
Me either :3
That's why I was so confused XD
I think it means you like nearly every game, except the fat and ugly ones.

some dude called me a "trendy gaming whore" today at gamestop...granted I was talking about pirating PSP games with my headphones blaring of "The beetles" but I felt rather imbalanced.

I've been called a pedophile once...
Not that it has to do with anything on this subject unless you count the fact that it doesn't really matter how people call you as long as you know your true self.

Meh - Stupid branding...

But trendy gamer is a new one too me...In my eyes it states that you frag in a suit and tie o.0 FRAG THE LIVING - but don't get gore on the gucci!

A bit off the game orientations of this topic, but hopefully on track.

I got called a 'Chav'(if you don't know what that is think jock) by some tyke in a frigging my chemical romance hoodie the other day...proper shock moment, had me MSI shirt on plus I was recovering from a night at the local metal club...

It was like calling the Pope, a Jew...Pretty sure I have listened to more pinch harmonics/growly angst ridden songs/double bass driven metal etc than he has every encountered -.-

Anyway...
