And yet we are still supplied with Scissors and Staplers at school and various deadly chemical substances? Odd...

SO REALISTIC RIGHT?!
if you were playing Humans V Zombies it would make a lot of sense to have that on you.

Actually, it seems pretty stupid to me that he let you get on and ride the whole way to the school thinking you had a weapon. Did he not consider that if someone got on with a real weapon, they could just start attacking other people already on the bus? Seems like if he was going to stop you at all, he should have stopped you getting on, not getting off.

heh. I was walking down the street in the middle of town with a plastic sword. (But, so was my step-brother, and he was under 10. - I'm 7 years older than him.)

I got some pretty funny looks from people, and a police officer was looking pretty closely at me...
But, nobody did anything.

Meanwhile, I have a metal sword now, and while I never take it out in public, I've had it in places like a youth hostel and barely got a comment on it...

I took it in my checked luggage at an airport, and while the person at the checkout asked security to come look at it, the guy from security looked at it for all of 3 seconds before deciding it was fine and I could go.

Heh. The world can be pretty weird when it comes to weapons.

Yes, he mad. I will never understand people who work in the public school system.

They're just as bad as airport "security".

Before too long you guys will have to walk through metal detectors and get cavity searches every morning.
inner city schools and others already have metal detectors.

It's pathetic.
In most cases I'd agree with you. Sadly, the inner city schools where I'm from have had enough issues that it's probably safer for everyone if they have them. When my volleyball team went to one for a match the coaches told us to never travel alone. They were serious too.

Also, the malls around here have like a 7-8 p.m. curfew for anyone under 17 without a parent with them. They'll actually have the mall security take you down, call your parents, and wait for them to come get you.

Seriously? I have a good 8-inch envelope opener that looks like a ceremonial sword and is sharp as hell, (I call it the Pope-ener! For some reason...), and I bring it to school every day!

...Hell, I spent 3 weeks doing a detailed painting of it, so I had it out in various classes, during breaks and lunches, after school, just doping sketches of it in various positions and lighting... no one said a word to me!

Sound like Hoyloke Massachusetts, I was told by the guy checking IDs that it was because in the last two weeks they had ten stabbings

I can't even take my tools to peoples houses unless there in a sealed case. Just becuase something can be used as a weapon don't mean it should be classed as one.

A assault with a deadly weapon took place in my town and all it was someone good beat down with a tin of beans.

That's nothing. My roommate was stopped by a police officer for carrying an assault rifle. He was actually carrying this. OP: If that sword looked like real metal from afar, I could understand the hubbub. Otherwise, that's just plain silly.

Ya. That does seem pretty stupid. "Derp Derp Let me hassle the kid for having a plastic sword when he gets OFF my bus not during the ride or when he gets on."

Sounds like you have some very strict bus drivers around. I once cycled through town with a gun bag strapped to my back and I wasn't stopped by anyone. Which was good, because there was a replica imitation AK-47 inside so if I had been stopped I would have had some explaining to do (it wasn't illegal, but police probably wouldn't have appreceiated it).

I dunno man, you modify a nerf gun the right way it can hurt like a bastard when someone shoots you with it. Still; it's always funny to hear about adults that over react to everyday kid's toys.

Backpacks are offensive weapons. So are textbooks. Science labs are full of offensive weapons, not to mention several incendiary ones and ones that can cause severe chemical burns. I'm surprised an entire school hasn't gone into lockdown over a graphing calculator or a mechanical pencil, myself--those can respectively be explosive devices and pellet shooters, y'know.

One of my friends has that exact same umbrella! Wears it over his shoulder like a real sword everytime it might rain. I don't think he's ever been stopped though...

Of course, he is insainly lucky about that kind of thing. Last Halloween he brought a REAL katana to school as part of his costume. Everybody just assumed it was fake, except for one kid who got a close look after trying to pull some shit. Don't worry, my friend didn't draw it, just revealed that the handle wasn't part of the sheath after all.

he was right to stop you but i doubt you can be arrested over a plastic sword. what if it as a real sword.

sort of reminds me of that other person stopped over an umbrella cause the hand was shapped like a sword or something.

better safe than sorry

Hell, this is nothing. I've heard of elementary school kids getting in trouble for drawing guns. Anything that has to do with weapons and related to school is illogically frowned upon, and anyone that would question if that sword was real or fake has obviously never seen a real sword outside of movies, and it's ridiculous that it would cause so much panic. Our society has obsessed with security too much.
