When Skyrim comes out on the 11th, I wont be getting it. Not because I don't like it, but because I want to save my hard earned money. Like all resent Bethesda games I'm very sure that the Skyrim release will soon be followed with a big bunch of DLC that I'm going to really want to get and thus buying it when it comes out I know will just waste my money.

So my question to you Escapist is this; with DLC being very, very common now, do you ever wait until all the DLC for a game is released to get it?
We're talking about easylly 200 hours game as vanilla. Why wouldn't it be worth 60 dollars?

Well I will be waiting for the edition that comes with all the DLC bundled.

Dare I say the GOTY edition?

I fully understand your desire to hold back on a game, they are very expensive even without DLC, which is why I will wait until a game goes down to about £30, if its one I really like, £20 if I'm not sure, and £15 if I am simply curious. This system of mine was developed after that FF13 game screwed me over, Grr.

So you're not buying it because you'll want the DLC? Why don't you buy the game, but not the DLC? That would seem to be the sensible thing to do.

Personally, I seldom buy DLC for games; it just always seems like a money grab to me, and they're often not something I would really want.

WHAT! YOU"RE NOT GETTING SKYRIM? WHAT THE FU--

*ahem*

Sorry about that...

Anways: If I'm really interested in a game, I'll get it as soon as possible.
If (or rather, when) they release DLC for the game, I'll look at it and see if it interests me.
If it doesn't, I won't get it. If it does, I'll get it.

[sub]Although, I've gotten almost ALL of the Oblivion DLCs, so I'll probably end up getting all the Skyrim DLCs.[/sub]

You could just not buy the dlc? Thats what I do.
I'm afraid I would get quite a warning for this but...

this. You could completely not buy it, it's not like they are forcing you to buy it.

It depends on how stable the so called new engine is, if I will get Skyrim or not. The Oblivion DLC was pretty much a waste, I bet a few good things will be stripped from Skyrim and sold off as DLC.

Oh it's a legitimate post that's surprising. The game of the year editions of the Bethesda games usually don't come out until a year after the original release. Good luck if you really think you can wait that long. I know I wouldn't be able to. As for me and DLC I don't really have a lot of money right now so I haven't bothered with it. But now that I finally have a new job that may change. I really want to check out the Honest Hearts DLC for New Vegas.

Yup Ive been doing that since like the beginning.

Plus your getting a lot of bang for your money when you wait for it

I'll wait, but not because of the DLC.
I want to be sure that all the bugs are ironed out, either through official patches, or unofficial mods. Also, I'll be waiting for someone to recreate Kyoma's Journal mod for Skyrim.

What? It's a great mod.

Thanks for keeping us informed, I can sleep better knowing this.

I'd still buy every Bethesda game on release day if they came with a free kick to the crotch.

I always wait for DLC, so I'm not getting Skyrim immediately either. Hopefully I can wait the whole year+ it takes for a GOTY edition.

The only time I have ever paid for DLC was for Saint's Row 2, and that was only because they didn't release it in a bundle with the game. Unfortunately that DLC cost something like 14 dollars and only added five missions (one which was only a cutscene and nothing else) totaling only an hour or two of added game time (even less if they weren't so hard/I wasn't playing on the highest difficulty).
Considering I bought the game itself for $19 and easily got 60 hours out of it, the DLC was quite a bad deal.

Betheseda puts out quality DLC that adds hours of gameplay as opposed to others that only add 60 or so min. or over priced map packs. So don't feel cheated about Skyrim DLC it will be worth the extra money. Oh, wait I forgot the horse armour... any way just be shure of what DLC you get before spending your money. You will hear about the good ones a month or so before they release.

I tend to feel that Bethesda games lack in end-game content... from what I hear Skyrim is supposed to be different but, I'm still not jumping to buy it.
What do you mean by that?

If you mean that they lack it at the end of the main quest, that's certainly not true. There's many many side quests on both Oblivion and Fallout 3, some that I'd say were better than the main quest.

If you mean that after every quest is done, there's still little things you can goof around with.

But at that point, I've usually spent many an hour on it anyway, which makes a replay feel redundant to me.

OT: I will definitely get it on release date. Oblivion is on my list of favorite games ever.
