When Skyrim comes out on the 11th, I wont be getting it. Not because I don't like it, but because I want to save my hard earned money. Like all resent Bethesda games I'm very sure that the Skyrim release will soon be followed with a big bunch of DLC that I'm going to really want to get and thus buying it when it comes out I know will just waste my money
While that does seem like the smart thing to do I just wont be able to hold off on getting the game

Wasn't the release date for the GOTY edition of oblivion like 2 years after the game itself?

That's actually a really good reason to not get it actually, I was expecting a stupid reason (e.g. "OMFG ITZ NOT STUPIDLY COMPLICATED Y U NOOB UP MI GAME BETHESDA?!!?!?). I'm not the patient however, I'm getting on launch, but I'll likely wait for the DLC to be put on sale.

Or rather, I'll plan to wait for the DLC and I'll be overcome with a horny nerdgasm and will get the DLC packs the instant they come out because I lack self control.

So I take it that you're going to wait for the inevitable GOTY edition next November?
I'll be picking up the Falout: Nwe Vegas GOTY when it comes out, hopefully later this year. :D

Very rarely buy DLC, its normally grossly overpriced for what content they give you.
ME3 especially pissed me off- the only pack that was what they charged was Lair of the Shadow Broker.

So my question to you Escapist is this; with DLC being very, very common now, do you ever wait until all the DLC for a game is released to get it?
So, are you saying that you're just going to wait for the GOTYE? Because if that's the case, you have a misleading, attention grabbing title, which should read something like "I won't be buying Skyrim on release."

EDIT: I will most certainly be buying it on release, because the thought of waiting even a single unnecessary day to get my hands on it makes me want to vomit. That, and Bethesda's recent track record regarding DLC has been that most of it sucks except for one shining specimen. So the money you save by waiting by no means negates the pain of having to wait.

I thought you were going to say this is being developed for consoles first and therefore as a PC user you are boycotting it.

I do like Bethesda and Fallout 3 was good, I have yet to decide if this game is worth paying for. I didnt get New Vegas and didnt finish Fallout 3 100% so I might need to get those first.

DLC feels like microtransactions and since I am a completist it bothers me.

For me, a day 1 purchase is very tempting. I haven't done that since Portal 2, and before that... Uh, Twilight princess. So I think I can afford to it everyone once in a while.

I mean, you can summon lightning storms to fight dragons. I need this now.

I'll wait before I'll get it. Not because of the reasons you mentioned, but because I want to hear (objective-ish) opinions about how the game handles and how buggy it is. I know it's a new engine, but then again it's Bethesda. I'm also almost certain that it will not be worth the hype, because the hype has been absolutely massive, I think a lot of people will end up disappointed, even if it's a good game.

I tend to feel that Bethesda games lack in end-game content... from what I hear Skyrim is supposed to be different but, I'm still not jumping to buy it.
What do you mean by that?

If you mean that they lack it at the end of the main quest, that's certainly not true. There's many many side quests on both Oblivion and Fallout 3, some that I'd say were better than the main quest.

If you mean that after every quest is done, there's still little things you can goof around with.

But at that point, I've usually spent many an hour on it anyway, which makes a replay feel redundant to me.

OT: I will definitely get it on release date. Oblivion is on my list of favorite games ever.
Well, that is how it is with my play style. I grab every side quest as I do the main story and turn them in when I go back around that area for whatever reason. With that type of play style the games they make seem to lack the end-game content in my opinion.

tl:dr

I wont be caring that you are not buying skyrim. I could not possibley be in the act of caring less. I will be irritated that you posted another thread about a topic that has already been beaten to death by cleverly using a different title for it.

I'm getting the deluxe edition of Skyrim as an early Christmas present to myself. And I"ll probably make the fiance buy me the DLCs either as soon as they come out or for my birthday in February. Heh.

I think I'll hold of buying untill the first wave of patches (official and otherwise) have been released and tested.

If you have the willpower, my friend, then all power to you. I, however, do not. not for this. I've been waiting for Skyrim since the day I ran out of things to do on Oblivion four or so years ago. Christ, I type Skyrim into Google news at least once a week to keep abreast of what's going on with it and get any new news. I can barely wait til November, let alone any longer, but if you think you can manage then go for it.

I almost never get any dlc at all, so there's no point in my waiting. I bought oblivion game of the year and I used none of the dlc. It was a good game without the dlc, I don't buy games that aren't worth buying on their own merits.

While I'll give to you that after doing every quest in the game the remaining interest in it drops significantly, I still think that the time that it would normally take to complete all those aforementioned quests makes most desires of replay irrelevant, since you've enjoyed it for so long anyway.

You're not buying a game due to DLC that probably won't add that much content to?

Who gives a fuck about DLC? Hell, I got the DLC code for Fallout New Vegas which gave you the canteen and ignored it because I didn't want to be a little ***** in hardcore mode.
