I too am tired of brown and grey, but I don't want my game to look like Linda Blair ate Skittles. Can we find some sort of happy medium? Even in a concrete city there is color.

Nope, ABSOLUTELY NO COLOR to be had here!
God save you if you open all of that up, you've been fairly warned.
EDIT: To actually contribute to the discussion at hand, I'm sick of people whining about everything being "brown and grey". It's the phrase itself that bugs me, because people don't usually actually MEAN "brown and grey", they mean "it has an aesthetic that doesn't appeal to me because everything is washed out" or something like that. And people have just boiled it down to complaining that every single game is just one damn color, which is not true at all.
EDIT The Second:
Also, I would never play a first-person shooter again if they all looked like that. It hurts my eyes to look at those after a few minutes, I can't even imagine trying to play it.
It's not so much a problem with the 8-bit aesthetic - the real problem is that those Mega Man tile graphics were designed to be used sparingly, alongside a wide variety of other tiles, not splattered across gigantic polygons and tiled ad nauseam. It also doesn't help that the colors they used are actually somewhat more saturated than what the NES actually outputs, and it's just galling to see Mega Man background tiles in an environment that consists almost entire of right angles when the original artists went to such effort to create a world far more complex.shrekfan246 said:EDIT The Second:

I feel sick to my stomach just hearing the mention of that game.Matthew94 said:Duke Nukem
There is not a single possible way I could take Duke Nukem that wouldn't disgust me. Serious or silly, it grosses me out. Politics? I want to have fun. I won't have fun playing a game I hate every single solitary thing about with a passion.Matthew94 said:Duke isn't meant to be serious so don't take it as such.
I know the world "troll" is forbidden here, I'll refrain from ever uttering its name again. But people are clearly messing with me.Matthew94 said:WHAT??
You are telling me you don't like paying women to expose themselves then killing them?
What a world we live in...
Have you tried Deus Ex, admittedly it isn't an FPS as it's more of a hybrid of multiple genres but it's good.
Well if you're gonna act like that when people actually reccomend games, people probably are going to start trolling you. Because before now they weren't.LilithSlave said:I know the world "troll" is forbidden here, I'll refrain from ever uttering its name again. Nevermind, I shouldn't have implied I could ever reconcile the genre at all. It has become a pandora's box for recommending crap I hate. Possibly intentionally.
If a guy anything like Duke Nukem exists, I do hope he doesn't want to have anything to do with me.Monoochrom said:Yeah, looking at the crap you posted I don't think the genre wants anything to do with you either.
