If a blood sport became legal, would you have anything to do with it?

I would watch it whenever I could.
The death row inmates are going to die soon anyway, why should it matter how? As long as they get a choice in the matter, it at least let's them go out in the manliest way possible, some would find that preferable to fading away while strapped to a table.
Just as long as the reward for the lifetime inmates is never release from prison.

Hell no. The thought of it turns my stomach. Especially the involuntary aspect.

Incidentally, many of you are not making a compelling argument for gamers being normal, well-adjusted members of society.

I'd probably watch it. As long as the people involved have a choice in the matter. Otherwise it's absolutely cruel, and I'd probably end up being one of the hippies protesting it.
I'm sure it will be a choice I mean these are inmates on death row or life and in the movies he referenced (the ones I've seen anyway) they were given the choice to either stay on the sentence or fight for their freedom

You mean a modern day version of the Arena in Ancient Rome? Basically the same but with HD cameras and action replays? Fight's to the death with internet polls on who should have mercy or not? Financed by an eccentric billionaire with a $2 million reward for winning a match? Hosted in International Waters?

Fuck yes Please
you forgot the online and at the arena betting

In real life using death row cons would kind of suck, as for the most part, they do not ever resemble the beefed up steriod jockeys they put in the movies. Most death row cons are not allowed to work out all that much. Incrediebly strong people are bad choices for victims, even by the state. They usually do a lot of time sitting in their cells, not doing push-ups and sit-ups, because seriously, what's the fucking point?
A game like this you would want to pull from the healthy maximum security facilities. Lifers with no chance of parole, who work out all day so they can rape or not get raped by other cons.
An even better idea would be to allow local sign-ups for volunteers (you would get tons!) and start a ranking system based on whoever survived their first one on one fight to the death.

I don't even think regular sports are particularly moral or righteous so I wouldn't have anything to do with this kind either.
Sort of this. On the one hand, I view most sports as something to keep people distracted from real issues, but on the other, OOOOO PRETTY BEER COMMERCIAL!

In all honesty, I would only support a bloodsport if it were the Gundam Fight.

I would support it 100%. To be honest, I'd probably be one of the people trying to get it accepted. I've written about what modern bloodsport should be like, and came up with many interesting ideas. First of all, you should attempt to silence the critics by avoiding doing anything immoral. This means: participation in arena combat or other challenges is 100% voluntary. You pay a fee and sign a contract to volunteer. Men and women are seperate, women fight women, men fight men. Three age classes to keep things as fair as possible: 18-20, 21-25, 25-35.

You could do *so* much with modern bloodsport, far exceeding what it used to be in the old days. You could have modern arenas, much like paintball arenas, where participants navigate a maze, find weapons and fight each other until one is left standing. You could have a big outdoors area, where capture the flag - events are held.

Also, not all bloodsports have to be about dueling. You could have a "survival course", much like obstacle courses in the army, only with lethal consequences for failure. A river full of crododiles if you fall, spike traps, big underwater areas participants have to navigate without drowning, and stuff like that. Surviving player with the best time wins.

With modern things like digital TV you could see the action from every angle, see replays, bet on who will win, and much more.

But the most important thing of all is that IT HAS TO BE VOLUNTARY.
