If we couldn't gain back the lost technology, then the world would probably be a better place, I think I'd enjoy it. Shame I'd be stuck on this little island called Albion.

As noble as it may seem, the world is not better off without any technology. Look at the medical devices that we have created to diagnose and cure illnesses. The average lifespan (in developed countries) is about 40 years longer now than it was before technology.

Who says that's a good thing? There's far too many people on this planet, I'd much rather have a shorter lifespan and not live in such a crowded country.



I quite like the idea of losing all technology, returning humans to a survival of the fittest situation. No one appreciates how easy their lives are, perhaps a return to the dark ages would make the human race see how lazy it's become.

Yeah, pretty much. Returning to nature's game of survival of the fittest would do us some good, we might even get back to doing some evolving. Humanity would come out the other side a much stronger species.
At the moment, people get handed everything on a plate, too many people let life pass them by. Maybe such a drastic change is what's in order.

Let's say that by some unknown means, somehow, all technology that makes the core of many peoples lives (computers, phones, machinery, guns(yes guns too), power plants, TVs, cars, planes and etc.) disappeared, what would you and what do you think the rest of the world would do? Try to rebuild somehow? Try to help each other to survive? Start pillaging the area and killing everyone in their way?

Find the person with the biggest stick, kill them for it then rule the world with it!

The dark age wasn't entirely due to the lack of technology, it also held to a certain lack of knowledge. Do you think that we're going to see a return to leeching and public executions (in the US anyway) because suddenly we don't have computers or cars? Because we know better than this, we'll be able to find other options for medical and survival necessities. The only thing that could make it that bad is if they take back all our scientific knowledge for the past several hundred years.

EDIT: The US comment is about public executions, not leeching, since I know some places still have public executions, but at least we won't. I don't think any country still uses leeching.

Well a gun really can't fail besides jamming or if you really smash it around until the firing pin breaks. The only real problem either way would be twats running around causing chaos. As long as we kept our knowledge and nobody went postal over their Blackberry kicking the bucket, we'd probably get back to were we are now after a century or so. Who knows, we might even use a better fuel source this time around. One that doesn't damage the planet and is easy to produce.

In order to do away with all technology wouldn't you of course have to also in trun do away with anyone with the knowledge of creating such technology? in which case it'd be a simple task of gaining necessary resources, so to truly remove all technology from the earth for a substantial amount of time you'd have to remove the resources and the people with the knowledge. which drastically cut the population down and maybe even the density of the earth (like it might even end up hollow) causing people as a whole to try harder at maintaining the earth and we'd probably still have wars and racial hate crimes, just they'd be more tribal then they were before.
