So pretty much everybody knows by now Andrew Garfield is the new Peter Parker and Marc Webb who has the majority of his projects being music videos and the one other film being (500) Days of Summer. Most people I've talked to have said they hope this movie bombs and I personally have a bit of a grudge against Sony for dropping Raimi.

Now I know it's almost universal consensus that Spiderman 3 was terrible or at least lacking. I didn't think it was bad, just had a lot more stupid moments than the others. Heck, even Raimi admitted he screwed up with 3 and was going to make it up with 4, and I believe that. I even bet of you gave him the opportunity to write 3 out of the continuity and remake it he'd do it all right from the missing suit vs. symbiote dream (how awesome would Raimi have made that!?)to trimming down the villain count properly and get what the symbiote does to you right too.

Anybody else kinda hoping it bombs and Sony is forced to beg on their knees to them?

Um.. no. I think the Spiderman movies are terrible and i'm actually excited to see this new one and hope that they fix the problems of the first trilogy. Sam Raimi's a great director but I just don't think he's the right choice for spiderman. Tobey Mcquire is also a terrible terrible Peter Parker

I guess because I liked the movies I can't see why people don't. Why don't you like them? I ask this as an observer looking to see both sides, not someone looking for bait.

MacGuire is a horrible Peter Parker imo.

He is to much of a bumbling fool, without all the banter and wit that Spider-man has.

I'm really not looking forward to ANY Spiderman movies, thank you. The first trilogy left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth, and I'm not too excited about this one.

Honestly I didn't read the comics much. I've been trying to catch up on them and all but I found his portrayal pretty good. Yes he's more bumbling but he's just getting used to his powers in 1 and I'm willing to bet anybody would have a problem or two when they first fight somebody they've never encountered. And yes there's a lack of witty lines but it feels like a quip would be out of place a lot of the times.

I take it you didn't find his improv of him trying to get the web to shoot in 1 very funny then?

I actually hope this new Spiderman is a success, and I wouldn't want to see Raimi or MacGuire come back for further installments. They had their shot and should move on to other projects. Raimi should stick to the type of movies and t.v. shows that had does well, that being campy B-Horror movies and campy B-grade shows and shows based in ancient Greece.

No.

If it bombs all that would happen is simply another reboot, with different people probably several years down the line. And I doubt it'll bomb to begin with, Spiderman 3 made a fuckton of money, the name alone will probably bring in enough to warrant a sequel anyway.

And besides, Raimi has enough on his plate as it is, with his Wizard of Oz project and the Warcraft film.

I dont see Sony begging to anyone honestly, and there's no way they're not going to make money off this just short of everytime someone is about to buy a ticket, someone else shoots them dead so they cant, and no promotional tie ins are made.

But no, I'm not hoping it bombs. I didnt think Tobey was a problem, but he should move on. He's pretty much type casted as the dude that played spiderman, and I'd like to see him get out of that.

As for Raimi... Id ont know. I dont want to see a Warcraft film, thats for sure. Maybe if he was just bludgeoned into unconsciousness. Or if he just devoted solely to his other projects, like that Evil Dead movie, and Oz.

So yeah. there's no reason to hate sony for this. Raimi did a terrible job in S3, and thats all well and good that he wanted to make up for it, but lets say that for some ungodly reason S3 didnt make money, and that portion of Sony went under for it. You odnt get second chances if a movie is bad, and its better not to take the risk, especially after the noticable decline the Spiderman films took as they continued. I honestly dont see the need for the reboot, but if its gonna be, might as well gve it to someone new.

That web part was okey, but all in all he feels to emo (in all the movies, in fact the only time he isnt emo is when he is wearing black.. go figure), and he lacks the spirit of Spider-man

No.

Horror needs Raimi back.

Seriously. I have no real qualms about raimi's spiderman direction, it's just that us horror fanatics miss him, man!

Maguire shouldn't be replaced. Spiderman 3 was the fault of the writers and whoever else decided that Spiderman needed to be Emo to be Evil. All that character development and he might not even be in another Spiderman movie.

I wouldn't mind Raimi back, but Andrew Garfield is a great actor, he proves that in The Social Network and Never Let Me Go. So unless for some reason he suddenly catches talent cancer I see no reason to get rid of him.

Yes, please. This is why I'm looking forward to the WoW movie; I want Raimi to go in and make one of his trademark campy fantasy stories. Unfortunately, I'm afraid he may be too self conscious to do it anymore. Anyone remember Legend of the Seeker? He wasn't faithful enough to the books to impress fans of those, while at the same time taking things too seriously to impress fans of his earlier work. It wasn't a terrible show, but it felt like one of those knockoffs of his show that were everywhere in the 90's, instead of something he actually worked on.

OT: I have no strong feelings one way or the other. The only live action superhero film that has really impressed me is Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight will probably be good when I finally watch that DVD. Other than that, none of them have been as good as the cartoons I watched as a kid, let alone the actual comics.

There is a trilogy that Raimi should do a 4th installment for, but it's not Spiderman.
